Right now my bench isn't all that great and I'm looking for tips on how to improve. I understand that a good bench is important, but I hate having a high salaried player that plays only 15 minutes. So how high should a bench players salary be compared to the starters? And what's a good rotation? Do you guys have 10 good players or do you have say 7 great players. All help is appreciated.

for myself, especially during this time of the season (playoffs), an eight-man rotation is best. as with any answer of this sort, it depends on your squad, but seven players leaves no margin for misfortune (foul trouble, injuries). i define a good "bench player" as one you would not mind starting, in a pinch.

deeper benches -- say, ten good players -- are very useful for longer Cup runs.

I've been going with 3 players that can all start in the PF-C positions pretty interchangeably depending on opponent and minute distribution. I've also got a back-up PG/SG that can start if my starting PG or SG has wacky minutes, and a back-up SG/SF that can do the same thing. So an 8-man rotation that does a nice job of keeping players with good minutes. Obviously this is without any training this season, but salary-wise they look like this:

STARTERS
PG: $45,189
SG: $24,302
SF: $15,502
PF: $22,162
C: $25,230

BENCH
PG/SG: $17,422
SG/SF: $19,383
PF/C: $19,575

I have 1757 players for sale and I'm $25,835,360 in debt. Buy them at outrageous prices, or be selfish and make me go bankrupt. You decide, BB.

If you're training you can do with 7 man for your league games, with 1 backup position for your trainee and 2 for a SG/SF and one for a PF/C (in case you're training guards). That way you only need 2 good backups, who can be about half the salary of your starters. Then you can get some reinforcements for the cup and some cheep fodder for scrimmages.

when you set your line ups then, how would you get good minutes for every player? ive always struggled to get good minutes for my players if i dont have 10 players.

i mean like how would you set up the backups and reserves?

Depending on the opponent and minutes I go with:

Starter Backup Reserve
A F F
B G F
C G G or D
D H H
E H H

Then I evaluate he minute distribution from the Saturday game as to who goes where for the Tuesday game. This week I got 4 players with 70-71 minutes, 3 with 50-51, and 1 at 46. So those 3 be placed as backups in the scrimmage, while the 46 minute guy will start.

My 2 losses this season were actually league games that I threw away and used just for minutes and training while using my main players in Cup matches. I ran into a tough team early so my Cup run was short. Essentially 8 players is good for 2 games a week. It's just a decision of which 2 you want to win early in the season.

Not really sure about the 8-man rotation. Yes, it can be done but still.. I find it much easier to have 10 players, ideally you would have 12 players for even better GS management.

You have 3 games a week, 48 minutes per position adds up to 720 total minutes you have to allocate between 8 players. That is 90 minutes per face and that is assuming perfect distribution. Probably you will have at least 2 players with ~100 minutes played. The optimal minutes for good GS is around 72-74. I dunno. Training gameshape all the time would be a solution though.

An 8 man rotation and having 10 players are different. The poster before you has 12 players on his current roster but runs an 8 man rotation in the games he's trying to win. He forfeits a 3rd game, most likely the scrimmage and plays a trainee, 3 of his 1k scrubs and the backups of his 8 man rotation. He manages the minutes just fine, no need to train game shape.
