Week Three Part One (Not Naker Style)

Glenelg Tigers vs. Northcote Slammers 69 - 65

The match of the round in the West was a low scoring affair despite both teams playing fast paced ofences. The defensive clamps were on and both teams had great issues with putting the ball in the hole. Glenelg were only 28/81 which was actually better than the Slammers at 25/80. Neither team could hit more than two three pointers for the match. Glenelg were very careless with the ball having 15 turnovers to 7 for Northcote but the Tigers were fierce on the glass having a huge 58-44 edge that was enough to bring them home.

3 Fan Chung Ling Glenelg Tigers 22 PTS 18 REB 9/18 FGS 12.5 rating. When no-one else in the game can score being the one efficent player earns you a few fans, Fan has a lot of fans.

2 Pier Giorgio Masetti Northcote Slammers 17 PTS 13 REB. Not an efficient scorer but did a great job on the boards when his big men let the team down.

1 Bernabé da Gudiña Glenelg Tigers 12 PTS 17 REB. We could get into a Naker debate about whether 5/13 is better than 7/20 but one thing is better, 17 rebounds.

Slam ! vs. CROCKERS 25 - 0

Slam ! get the win but no points. Come on CROCKERS you can do better than this!

Melbourne Goldfish vs. JW City Bulls 92 - 78

Big clash between divisional rivals that know each other well had few surprises in tactics but saw JW get to the line a lot more than the Goldfish by forcing the ball inside. However Melbourne more than made up for that by hitting several three pointers and having a much higher shooting percentage overall. Surprisingly the dominating JW big men weren't able to dominate the boards and the Goldfish had a slim lead in rebounds. JW made a big comeback in garbage time in the 4th to cut the margin by 13 making it look semi respectable.

3 Xie Guanzheng Melbourne Goldfish 32 PTS 6 REB 6 AST 12.0 rating. Forced to run and gun for 48 minutes again Xie must have legendary stamina. The top scorer by a mile, equal top in assists for the match he also held Joel Vulcan to just 7 points.

2 Jarrod Corica JW City Bulls 20 PTS. Having a a bit of a shootout with Bay of the Goldfish #3 on JW probably managed to stay about even with his much more fancied opponent in a solid offensive effort.

1 Arcangelo Di Nunno Melbourne Goldfish 16 REB. I can see the appeals already. "He scored just 2 points are you on crack?" Well getting a shot off when Xie is on your team can be a challenge but it was what he did in defence that earnt this big fish a vote. Not only did he have to face up to a $90,000 and a $70,000 opponent and easily out rebound both ($90,000 Yuen had just 5) but he kept his man $70,000 Cvoro to just 2/14 shooting in an offence that was designed for him.

Week Three Part Two (Not Naker Style)

Haggards vs. Billy Hoyles Boys 71 - 102

Another game for Billy Hoyles Boys and another crushing victory. The Haggards have been highly touted as a possible number two this season but they were simply no match for the Boys who dominated the boards, assists, shoot well, shut down the Haggards offence and even were given numerous trips to the charity stripe by the referee. While the 4th wasn't much of a comeback the Haggards did score nearly twice as much as they had in the previous three against the starters.

3 Yishai Keinan Billy Hoyles Boys 23 PTS 16 REB 16.0 rating. Yishai took just 27 minutes to reap this harvest on the Haggards and was then back on the bench tucking into some Gefilte and matza balls.

2 Anselmo Centurión Billy Hoyles Boys 23 PTS. This big man and his two points are obviously not enough for coachnoodles and he can be yours for a mere $1.45 million.

1 Leigham Phillips Haggards. 20 PTS 8 REB. It was a disappointing match but this long time Haggard (season 8 draft pick) was the best of a bad bunch.

Chumunga vs. Western Titans 52 - 90

Spank! The tanking Chumunga has just one decent player and he was up against the mighty Carey and Samdup. That left Chumunga with close to 0 options and this 40 point drubbing was the result.

3 Pavlas Glizickas Western Titans 19 PTS. No-one on the Titans needed to play more than 30 minutes so the individual stats aren't amazing, but the result is.

2 Norbert Carey Western Titans 12 PTS 19 REB. Controlled the glass and was against the only real opponent.

1 Pablo Lobato Western Titans 14 PTS 5 AST. Distributed the ball and kept his opponent to 2/16.

Chelsea Seagulls vs. Da Fat Boy Slim 88 - 100

The Seagulls lost the first by 11 and that was bascially the margin for the rest of the game. The Seagulls had no match for Duffman who humiliated the tag team defenders of Landrin and Larbi who went a combined 2/9 and had more fouls than points.

3 Kye Duffill Da Fat Boy Slim 36 PTS 23 REB 12/13 FTS 16.0 rating. Duffman deserves all 6 votes in this game, he was the meat, everyone else was just salad.

2 Jared Sherwin Chelsea Seagulls 23 PTS 10 REB 7/8 FTS 13.0 rating. No-one was even close to Duff Duff but Jared at least fought very hard and had a solid game.

1 Hunter Hawthorn Da Fat Boy Slim 22 PTS 10 REB 10.5 rating. Very similar stats to Sherwin but took 48 minutes instead of 39 to get them and not as good defence.

Duffill still leads the field from his best friend Xie who is equal second with the two Tigers Fan and Bernabé. Obviously very tight from there on in but Duffill is scoring at a very strong rate and as long as his team keeps on winning he has a great chance to score his first MVP ever. One other interesting thing to note, top team Billy Hoyle has the most players with votes but no individual is curently standing out.

Week 4 Part 1

Slam ! 70 - 117 Da Fat Boy Slim

A comfortable win for the Englishman Mr Cook (please tell me someone gets this) whose defensive prowess & scoring ability in the paint proved to be too much for Slam! & their shortened roster.

3 Votes Ky Duffill DFBS 42 points 22 reb 6ass

As much as i would prefer not to give him the votes it was once again a case of a big fish in a small pond. He'll get his ass handed to him when he plays against a decent team but this week he was too good for the anemic ID that Slam offered up.

2 Votes C. Bertocco SLAM 34pts 3reb 2ass

This may be a bit of a surprise but he gets the 2 for a couple of reasons. The first is that i like SF's! Secondly he got the job done against a much better quality of defender than Mariotti (who will get the 1). he was also quite efficient hitting 13-24 from the floor and turning it over a couple of times less than the disgraced former Around the Horn host.

1 Vote S Mariotti - DFBS 32pts 25reb with 5 TO's

A Huge stat line from the big C but he did it against a couple of guys that only rated 5's which in the end cost him a vote. You can only beat what you are up against which he did comfortably & thus he earns a vote.

CROCKERS 50 - 76 Western Titans

The Titans won all 4 quarters in this defensive battle. Both teams shot the ball terribly (Good D or bad offense?) and in the end the votes were quite tricky to hand out. The 3 & 2 were a toss of the coin with the decision coming down to me deciding what was more valuable, a better +/- & drawing more fouls vs playing great D and not fouling yourself?

3 Votes - Udti Samdup WT 15 pts 17 reb 2stl

In the end it was the former U21 standout that got the 3 votes but only just. If i could have given him and Carey 2.5 each i would have. His +/- was slightly better though both players were impressive in this area and he also got to the stripe 10 times to Carey's 6.

2 Votes - Norbert Carey WT 13 pts 20 reb 1blk

Norbert was very stiff not to get the 3 votes. He was clearly the 2nd best player out there and forced his opponent to make 6 TO's without fouling at all during the game. (Titan's played man so i am giving them all to him!) On any other day he may have got the 3 votes.

1 Vote Hue Hengquan 15pts 3reb 3ass

A very efficient game offensively going 7-14 from the floor as well as a strong defensive game that saw the Crockers SG's toss up bricks all game and finish a combined 6-33. He was also a very respectable +12 while he was on the court

Billy Hoyle's Boys 25-0 Chumunga

Tremmell now has a default lineup and apologized for his mistake (he did so before the game started in fact) which was enough to stop me going postal and cutting his heart out with a rusty spoon. Using my amazing powers i have decided that the votes will be handed out in the following manner.

3 Votes - Mikey Bergman

He's the highest rated player in the ABBL and 2nd highest rated in Australia. That's good enough for the 3 in my book

2 Votes - Odisseas Massios

The son of Greek immigrants and childhood friend of Jack Long was rewarded for the fact that he has now played a franchise record 221 games for BHB's

1 vote - Yishai Keinan

He was tasked with the job of defending the big Turk Selçuk Sultan who was the only player that showed up for the opposition on the night.

MORE VOTES TO FOLLOW TONIGHT

Haggards 121 - 96. JW City Bulls 121 - 96

A strong win for Haggards after a slow start in this one. A strange defensive choice for JW proved costly (remember boys and girls you should never play 2-3 zone) & stamina may also have been an issue in the 2nd half collapse

3 votes Jack Law HAG 29pts 5 ass

Law was money from long range hitting 7-9 threes and was also excellent defensively keeping the opposing PG to a miserable 5-25 shooting.

2 votes Joel Vulcan JW 24pts 3 ass 1reb

A solid effort from the Aussie who did a good job of scoring efficiently (9-15) and drawing a few fouls from the Haggards players.

1 Vote Tomé Salgueiro HAG 16pts 19reb

The big Tome was a force inside as he crashed the boards all game and scored well against a defence designed to stop him. He also did a nice job of limiting JW's best player.

Glenelg Tigers 107 - 92 Melbourne Goldfish

This was a rock solid win for the 2nd placed Tigers who were just too strong inside for the Goldfish. It was another tough game in which to decide who got the three votes as Glenelg's best 3 were very hard to split. Some consideration was given Guanzheng getting a vote but in the end i felt that the margin of victory and the efficiency with which the Tigers best three played was enough to get them the votes. Also the fact that whenever i am in Adelaide i love to have a beer in Glenelg at the Grand was enough to sway me over the fact that i have never had a pet goldfish.

3 Votes Fan Chung Ling GT 27pts 20 reb 4 ass

An impressive state line to go with the top +/- in the game as well as only 3TO's and 0 PF was enough to get him the 3. There was a very narrow margin between the top 3 players and in the end Fan's ability to get to the line and not foul himself got him the votes.

2 Votes Chinh Ton GT 26pts 8ass 6 reb

Very efficient shooting for a guard, decent D, 8 assists and only 2 TO's got the Ton 2 votes.

1 Vote Bernabé da Gudiña GT 30pts 19reb 2 ass

The big Spaniard was to top scorer in the game but his 5TO's, low +/- and inability to get to the line meant that he only snuck in for the one vote. It was fairly close between all the players in the end but this was how i saw it in the end.

Chelsea Seagulls 90 - 74 Northcote Slammers

This game was not as close as it seemed. Chelsea pants the boys from Northcote for 3/4's but some late junk time points from losers made the final margin respectable. Despite my constant chiding Greeno still played 2-3. Despite being best man at his wedding i am considering ditching him as a mate if he keeps doing it........now onto the votes.

3 votes Garth Larbi 14pts 15 rebs

Big Garth was in great nick on the boards, was efficient in racking up his 14 points and did a good job of quelling Demarcus who is probably Norcote's most damaging players.

2 votes Oliver Ðuričko 18 pts 4ass 2 blocks

Was the top scorer in the game, did a great job of drawing fouls and getting to the line and was able to keep Doherty quiet when he was on the court.

1 vote Mu Hongyun 15pts 6ass 5 reb

Tough call for the last vote, i considered Masetti and Sherwin but in the end i went for Mo and his all round game. He did a decent job of doing everything in a reasonable manner against Massetti who is one of the better all round players in the game.

After discussions with Koop we have decided that we will award MVP points in forefits. The forefitting team will get none. The team that didn't forefit will get points on merit according to the score revealed by the Viewer advanced to 48 minutes. In a double foretit there will be no points.

So this affects two games.

Chumunga vs. Billy Hoyles Boys 0 - 25

The actual score was 23-141.

3 Mai Chongzheng Billy Hoyles Boys 42 PTS 8 AST 5 REB

2 Anselmo Centurion Billy Hoyles Boys 26 PTS 30 REB

1 Gianfrancesco Lucia Billy Hoyles Boys 25 PTS 17 REB 7 AST

The other game was from 5/8/11

Slam ! vs. CROCKERS 25 - 0

The actual score was 123 - 31.

3 Alejandro Ascariz Slam ! 24 PTS 26 REB 8 AST 11/13 FGS

2 Ciro Bertocco Slam ! 24 PTS 15 AST 7 REB 4 STE

1 Meelis Klaar Slam ! 30 PTS 7 AST

I will add these to our progressive totals immediately and obviously they are subject to appeal as usual.
