Great work by Akuma and what another dramatic week in the Fishbowl. Is the West surprising you? It sure as heck is surprising me. Would anyone at the start of the season perdicted a top four of Whitebeard, Bazter Bogans, Kynlala Knights and Monkey Business? Where is the old ABBL royalty? Difficult draws may be one part but there is no doubt that these newer teams are here to make a big impact. This could have been even more crazy as Koopasaurus came within two points of a massive upset of the number two team in Australia: Black Label Society.
Meanwhile at the other end of the West the Smeltztroopers have probably had their one win for the season and the Cowboys look like their only win will come when they play the SmeltzTroopers. Zazz is probably in the same boat and likely heading for a 2-3 win season.
In the East no surprise to see Billy Hoyles Boys dominating but Glenelg are putting in a strong push for second place with the Seagulls, Haggards and newly promoted Titans looking to snatch that spot away from them. At the other end the tanking CUM and COC (hmm, interesting names guys) continue to live up to their names and screw things up by forgetting to set lineups. Interesting that there were no close games at all in the East this week, the closest being the injury wracked Goldfish (missing two starters) going down by 15 to Glenelg.
In the South things are a lot more open and while Yarra Park are obviously strong there are at least half a dozen teams including All-Sorts, Possum Chasers, Rampaging Marmots (probably headed down now after selling off some key parts), Mangoloids (a massive improver and coping very well in their division II) and Team Lordy still have a chance. At the other end it was a great upset to see Gisborne take down the mighty Home Axis courtesy of the HAX narrow roster and questionable game shape.
In the North after the Immortals took down the shooters relatively easily in the matchup of the round there are now just two undefeated teams, the Immortals and the much improved Vipers. The Vipers have lost star player Sam Rosales for two weeks so could be vulnerable in the short term. Also always dangerous are the unpredictable Viral Infections. Who knows what this wacky bunch of geriactrics will do next?
In the team competition the Calamari have moved well ahead thanks to the Bogans and the Knights in the West, a solid all around performance in the East, and having two of the top three spots in both the South (All-Sorts and Chasers) and North (Immortals and shooters).
But the biggest movers of the week were the Sharks, moving up four points and passing the Guppies. Watch out everyone, it isn't safe in the water! See you all again next week!
