Beasts Red vs. Home Axis 99 - 92 (36141624)

Well Home Axis would go into this game well and truly favourites with the Beasts having lost their past 15 Fishbowl games. Not a pretty sight for the Beasts manager Neeber, however it was always going to come to an end at some point, just a question of who the unlucky soul would be to lose to them. Fortunately in this game it was Home Axis giving the Beasts a deserved victory. Beasts led throughout the game through all breaks, albeit never by more than 6 or so points. But they managed to get home for their first win of the season.

3 votes - Home Axis - Phillip Gartmayer - 42 points 23 rebounds

Despite winning the game the Beasts are still deprived of the 3 votes with Gartmayer having a superb night. Some might even say 'Delicious', dropping 42 points from 20-30 shooting and grabbing 23 monstrous boards to help his team to win the rebounding tally by an astounding 25 rebounds despite the loss. Could have been nasty without Gartmayer's contribution.

2 votes - Beasts Red - Jacek Sudzinski - 25 points 3 assists 3 steals

Jacek unfortunately couldn't eclipse Gartmayer for the 3. however with just under 50% shooting for his team high 25 points and a few assists makes him the second most valuable player in the game.

1 vote - Beasts Red - Xavier Rodger - 16 points 4 rebounds 6 steals

X-man was beaten comprehensibly on the boards, but the FCP wasn't exactly helping his cause. He picked his opponents pocket 6 times to go with his 8-14 shooting for 16 points.

Yarra Park Bears vs. Whompas Donkeys 99 - 80 (36141621)

Yarra Park Bears have been a force so far in the South and there was nothing different in their game against the Donkeys. The Donkeys had a better showing than the Gladiators the week before against the Bears but it made no difference to the result. The Bears gained and early lead of 11 points in the first and held onto it until the last when they extended the margin to 19. Going to 3-0 with the Possums setting up an interesting 4th round match.

3 votes - Yarra Park Bears - Kazimierz Reda - 19 points 21 rebounds 5 assists 3 steals

Reda played extremely well to give the Bears a win, by knocking down a dual team high 19 points and grabbing more of the orange off the backboard than any other in the game. when you add 5 assists and 3 steals there is your most valuable player in the game.

2 votes - Yarra Park Bears - Ignacio Carlos Napolitano - 19 points 10 rebounds 4 blocks

Napolitano was a shade less valuable than his shorter counterpart Reda, however matching him in points and sending the mules to the carpark 4 times leaves him with 2 votes.

1 vote - Whompas Donkeys - Dewey Bowers - 24 points 7 assists

Dewey gets himself 1 vote in this one with a game high 24 points and 7 assists, which has been one of his better performance this season. Dewey seems to be finding the South to be somewhat more stifling this season with the increased strength of opposition each game.

Rampaging Marmots vs. Mad Rangas 95 - 78 (36141620)

With both teams in this matchup pulling out inept outside shooting ratings, it was obviously going to be an inside game for the bigs... and that is was with the leading scorers being C's and PF's. Marmots blew the Rangas out in the first half, despite by the looks of it only playing half their starting team. They had a 15 point lead at halftime and only extended it in the 3rd. Rangas only regained some face when the game was gone. The winless rangas have been fiding it tough going but will be hoping on improved performances in coming weeks.

3 votes - Rampaging Marmots - Dan Gardner - 40 points 21 rebounds

Gardner had it all his own way dropping a brilliant 15-27 and 10-15 from the line for his game high 40 point. When you add 21 rebounds you only get one number and that is 3.

2 votes - Mad Rangas - Cristiano Schiavio - 28 points 22 rebounds

Schiavio like Gardner had a field day where everything went inside, shooting 13-27 for his team high and grabbing a game high 22 rebounds. The Rangas would be hoping for this kind of valuable input from him every night, especially with Gab Wall's early foul out.

1 vote - Rampaging Marmots - Sam Clune - 22 points 14 rebounds 5 assists

It was hard to separate Clune and O'Daire for the 1 with O'Daire being a rebound and assist short of the elusive trip-dub. but Clune got to the line for 12 free-throw attempts and no doubt had a hand in the fouling out of G-Wall. when you take into consideration that and his stats he deserves the 1.

Round 4

Home Axis vs. Gisborne Gladiators 58 - 65 (36141630)

Home Axis were looking to revenge their loss to a III.12 side last week. Unfortunately for Home Axis the Gladiators came to play. The game remained close with Home Axis narrowly leading the Gladiators by 1 at the end of the first. The second quarter was extremely tight with no team able to grab a double digit lead. However Home Axis did extend their lead to 5 at halftime. After 28 minutes the Gladiators were lucky enough to foul out the dangerous guard Paco Garrido, who when these teams met last time dropped 27. The Garrido injury may have been the break the Gladiators needed to wrestle back the momentum. A 19-19 3rd quarter left Home Axis with their 5 point lead with 12 to play. A huge stifling last quarter saw the Gladiators keep their opponent to only 9 points in the last to walk away with their first win.

3 votes - Gisborne Gladiators - Igor Zakharov - 22 points 8 rebounds 9 assists

Igor caused all kind of havoc for the defense, despite shooting only 6-24, he had a game high 22 points and was only a couple of rebounds and an assist away from a very nice triple double at the PG position. Zakharov also did great in working his way to the line for 20 free-throw attempts. Zakharov no doubt had a had in the dangerous Garrido fouling out, and gets a well deserved 3 votes. Especially when you add his 3 steals and 3 blocks

2 votes - Gisborne Gladiators - António Terroso - 18 points 13 rebounds 3 blocks

Terroso shot an efficient 8-14 for his 18 points to be the second highest scoring in the game. He also managed to grab 13 rebounds and 3 blocks in his 38 minutes.

1 vote - Home Axis - Phillip Gartmayer - 14 points 18 rebounds 3 assists

No Axis player shot particularly well so his 5-17 shooting and 18 rebounds with 6 of them being offensive does the job for 1 vote.

Yarra Park Bears vs. Possum Chasers 74 - 71 (36141626)

This was to be a top of the table match with both teams on 3-0 prior to the game, and it lived up to the hype with another great match. The Possums went in with a Low Post offence while the Bears went with Patient, so it was never going to be a high scoring game. The Possums got away to a 2 point lead at the end of the first. They held that 2 point lead through the next 2 quarters to go into the last with the same margin. The Bears in what could be a Grand Final matchup surged for a 3 point win in a close last quarter. Going to 4-0... can they be beaten?

3 votes - Possum Chasers - Carl Halliday - 33 points 7 rebounds 3 steals

Couldnt go past Halliday for the 3 tonite with his game high 33 points off a very handy 15-24 shooting performance and 3-6 from the line. Despite his team losing he had a +/- differential of +3 in his 39 minutes. Great night for Carl. Expect to see him continue to find his way into the votes as TT is a marked man for defences.

2 votes - Yarra Park Bears - Albert Sala - 27 points 3 blocks

Sala had a huge hand in his teams victory in this game by dropping 27 points and getting to the line plenty of times to shoot 11-17 from there. when you add his 3 blocks on defense he clearly gets the 2 votes.

1 vote - Yarra Park Bears - Kazimierz Reda - 10 points 17 rebounds 3 assists

The Big Red manage to drop 10 points from 50% shooting to go along with his game high rebounds and a couple of assists. Not bad. 1 vote.

Beasts Red vs. Eggplantpopolopolous 103 - 89 (36141629)

The Beasts win last week over Home Axis has opened the floodgate for wins left, right and center. Eggplantpopolopolous were to become the next victim of the Beasts rampage that see them release all that frustration from losing 15 straight Fishbowl games. Beasts started off very quickly jumping out to a 27-20 lead at the end of the first. The Beasts then again stretched their lead in the 3rd to take a 15 point lead into the last. Amazingly enough the Eggplants fought back to 88-84 down with 3 minutes to go. It looked as if the Beasts had run out of petrol tickets. But a full timeout and 3 quick Beasts baskets to the Beasts put the result beyond doubt with 2 minutes left. Could the Beasts be looking for a high finish this season compared to previous ones?

3 votes - Beasts Red - Jacek Sudzinski - 26 points 6 assists 2 steals 2 blocks

Jacek had a great night shooting 11-17 for his 26 points and handing out 6 assists. Another thing to note in Jacek's game was that in 38 minutes he was able to beat the Eggplant FCP by not turning the ball over once.

2 votes - Beasts Red - Andrea Runcio - 30 points 7 rebounds

Andrea shot 11-23 for his team high 30 points and 6-11 from the line. His team was also 19 points better than their opponents when Andrea was on the court in his 39 minutes. Add his 7 rebounds and he got the job done tonight.

1 vote - Eggplantpopolopolous - Albanos Timpani - 46 points

Usually dropping 46 points in a game would get you at least 2 votes. But when you take 51 shots when you aren't shooting particularly well maybe you should have passed it off to a teammates and let them take 20 more shots.

Mangoloids vs. Whompas Donkeys 60 - 55 (36141628)

I apologize for the delay but i have written this game up twice and lost it both times. Needless to say it has taking it out of me, especially after spending last night writing an essay on risk management, instead of sleeping... kill me now

Well i wish i had what i wrote before. But the Mangoloids would have gone into this game as quite solid favourites over the winless Donkeys. The Donkeys however showed no signs of the play that has seen them slip to 0-3 before this game with a solid first 3 quarters where they held a 4 point lead heading into the last. Unfortunately the strength of the Mangoloids prevailed in devastating fashion taking the lead with 4 minutes to go, for the first time since early in the second. Donkeys scoring machine has been well held in the South so far this season, and this game was no exception with Bowers again failing to score more than 20 points. That may have been the difference between the sides when it counted late in the last. Mangoloids move to 3-1 and look to cement a spot in the top half of the table, whereas the Donkeys will be looking forward to matchups with the Rangas, Axis and Gladiators for potential wins.

3 votes - Manogloids - Luke McCaskie - 28 points 7 rebounds 3 assists 3 steals

McCaskie has had some rough nights recently especially last week against the Gladiators when scoring came tough. Tonight was a bit of an exception shooting 12-30 for his game high 28 points. With 6 of his 7 rebounds being offensive he clearly wanted to prove his offensive value after recent performances and he deserves the 3

2 votes - Whompas Donkeys - Medartas Tvarijanavicius - 10 points 16 rebounds

The lithuanian didnt have the most impressive shooting night canning only 4 of 15, however he was big on the boards and managed double digit points.

2 votes - Mangoloids - Luca Batini - 10 points 19 rebounds

Luca shot only marginally better than Medartas and only grabbed a few more rebounds in 4 extra minutes.

1 vote - Whompas Donkeys - Medartas Tvarijanavicius - 10 points 16 rebounds

The lithuanian didnt have the most impressive shooting night canning only 4 of 15, however he was big on the boards and managed double digit points.

Rampaging Marmots vs. TEAM LORDY 91 - 77 (36141625)

This was an interesting matchup with both div 2 sides playing motion and m2m defense. The question was could Clune tame the rampaging beast Underwood? This looked to be the case through the first 3 quarters where the margin grew beyond TEAM LORDY's reach. They won the quarters by 8, 7 and 9 to take a commanding hold on the match, with only a consolation last quarter narrowing the margin to a seemingly generous 14 points.

3 votes - Rampaging Marmots - Barry Ó Daire - 31 points 5 rebounds 7 assists

Barry was a clear best player on the court shooting 50% from the field and from downtown, with 7-14 shooting from long. Combine that with the 7 assists he threw and Barry had a great night

2 votes - Rampaging Marmots - Sam Clune - 27 points 4 rebounds

from here on in its get extremely tight and the votes could go one of three ways. But Clune gets the 2 for not only his 27 points but also his fantastic defensive effort on the MVP leader Ross Underwood, keeping the Brit to only 4-20 shooting and 0-5 from long range.

1 vote - TEAM LORDY - Valentyn Tsurkan - 23 points 6 assists 6 rebounds

Now it was extremely tight between Tsurkan and Gardner for the 1 vote with the 5 less turnovers than Gardner swaying the decision Tsurkan's way. But hey in most games 23,6 and 6 is worthy of a 2 at least. He will just have to keep plugging away.

All-Sorts vs. Mad Rangas 107 - 82 (36141627)

The All-Sorts were looking to some things right after having already dropped a game, and with the Rangas being forced to play Inside, G-Wall was never going to have enough firepower to overwhelm the entire All-Sorts team. All that is needed to be known about this game was that All-Sorts won every quarter on route to a comfortable 25 point win with only Gab Wall causing any problems to the defence.

3 votes - All-Sorts - Mamerto Méndez - 19 points 4 rebounds 7 assists

Mendez shot worse than his teammate Pizzolato however worked his way to the line for 14 attempts of which he made 7. With 7 assists also to his name he grabs a handy 3 votes.

2 votes - Mad Rangas - Gabriel Wall - 34 points 13 rebounds 4 assists 2 steals 2 blocks

The Great Wall was really the only shining light for the Rangas with his output being absolutely vital to his teams performance. A thing to note is that this boy can shoot free throws with 8-8 in this one.

1 vote - All-Sorts - Edo Volavc - 17 points 6 rebounds 3 blocks

This old man i expected to see running around with Naker's boys. However for his team tonight he shot an extremely nice 8-11 in only 23 minutes. The limited minutes may be a result of fatigue... it aint easy running around at 35.

MVP Leaderboard (after round 4)

Underwood despite being well held and kept out of the votes still holds a narrow lead over Mendez and Clune who appear to be making moves, although i believe Clune was sold. O'Daire, Halliday and Sudzinski are also staking claims to the title with solid polling in the last round.
