Okay then. When will I know that they've accepted? What kind of notification do I receive?

When your opponent accepts the challenge, on the "Manage My Team Page" you'll see a game scheduled on the lower right corner, and it will also appear in your schedule. You should send out a lot of invites to make sure you get something scheduled
