Week 6 Part 1

Whitebeard defeated Lewisham Wombats (103-89)
The Whitebeards continue their unbeaten run notching up their 6th straight win. It was anybody's game right at the end of the 3rd quarter with only 1 point separating the two teams. A tired Wombats team clearly didn't have the legs to match the Whitebeards as they easily overwhelmed them in the final quarter.

3. Jorge Feliciano (WB) 25 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists
Superb final quarter, bagging a handy 13 points. Also a quality night in defence as he reduced Trimailovas' impact with only shooting 3-13.

The 2-1 votes was a toss up between, Asvestas, Calzado, Kremer and Aggy. Could have gone either way.

2. Alexis Asvestas (WB) 27 points, 5 rebounds
Asvestas with on fire with his accurate shooting of 5-7 from outside the arc which made life difficult for the Wombats each time they tried to claw their way back into the game.

1.Shachaf Kremer (LEW) 22 points, 14 rebounds
Accurate shooting and constant threat with Forastero unable to stop him after fouling out halfway through the game. However Kremer would be disappointed as he was unable to consolidate that advantage for the Wombats against the Whitebeard's sub.

Koopasaurus defeated Pancakes with Jam and Cream (92-84)
Too much pancakes can make you fat! Careful you don't slip on the jam and cream or you might get an injury as well! That's been the sad fact for the Pancakes as injury to Couto and his mates haven't helped their cause this season and have officially decided to shut up shop. Typical ugly game for the Koopasaurus with injuries to Jaanus and Kahler.

3. Wazza Kennerley (KOO) 27 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks
Wazza as usual was the man who stepped up to take a rare victory against the Pancakes. Fantastic in defence as he didn't let Efinger score a single field goal 0-10. Also scored 10 points in the final quarter.

2. Josh Dowd (PAN) 24 points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists, 5 steals
Dowd was everywhere! The Pancakes veteran had an outstanding performance as he showcased that he has not lost his skills. Massive final quarter of 16 points almost stole the show and 3 votes from Wazza but poor shooting earlier in the game really cost the Pancakes the victory.

1.Maciej Kuman (PAN) 28 points, 16 rebounds
All the Pancakes worked tirelessly all night without any breaks barring fouling out or injuries. Kuman was one of the few who actually worked their butt off with a solid 7 points and 6 rebounds in the final term.

Week 6 Part 2

Zazzocalypse defeated Baxter Bogans (107-96)
Game of the round? One thing for certain, the Bogans choked on their beer after holding the lead for 45 out of the first 48 minutes. At one stage they were leading by 21 points. A courageous fight back from the Zazzocalypse led by their big men Lawrence and Choong Kuan saw them easily win in overtime.

3. Gary Lawrance (ZAZ) 30 points, 15 rebounds
Shannon + Whip = Fantastic game from Lawrance. A little motivation was all that was needed and Lawrance pulled through as he dominated against dangerous big man Castaldo who was disappointing only scoring 3-14.

2. Chiu Choong Kuan (ZAZ) 27 points, 18 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks
Did what was asked of him and stepped up when necessary to snatch away the game from the Bogans.

3. Durk Renaud (BAX) 36 points, 6 rebounds
While the rest of his team mates were MIA in the second half + OT, Durk worked incredibly hard all night as he scored 26 points after half time.

Monkey Business defeated SmeltzTroopers (94-82)
For the first time in a long time, Smeltz finally has some team mates and two less excuses as to why they weren't able to win. The game was tight up until roughly two minutes remaining in the third quarter where the Monkeys pulled away a little bit which gave the Monkeys enough momentum for start of the fourth to win the game.

3-2 votes was a toss up between Messineo and Smeltz. Both leaked points but Messineo just sneaked in.

3. Gabriele Messineo (MON) 27 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists
Messineo was fantastic all night with very little difficulty getting on the scoreboard, had 9 points in the final term. He defence was good, rotating to defend at SG against Zhijan who was shooting at 9-26. Although he gave away a total of 24 points.

2. Ky Smeltz (SME) 33 points, 14 rebounds, 2 blocks
The 7 turnovers probably cost him the votes as that allowed the Monkeys to counterattack. Smeltz kept the SmeltzTroopers in the game with a big effort in the final quarter with 14 points and 8 rebounds, however made some costly mistakes giving away 4 turnovers. Defensively he let his opponenet score to easily shooting 8-11 but outclassed him in the rebounds.

1. Dimitris Patziaras (MON) 17 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists
It was between Patziaras and Zhijian for the solitary 1 vote. Patziaras accurate shooting just got him over the line although he needs to work on his rebounding.

Week 6 Part 3

Kynala Knights defeated Bell Park SuperCats (100-90)
The Knights continue their fine start to the season with with a comfortable victory over the Supercats. The margin may not have been big but the Knights constantly had a gap of 10 or more points all night.

3. Pitama Tau (KYN) 30 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists
Tau just get the 3 votes. Sensational performance all round with a good defensive performance after being asked to rotate to defend at centre.

2. Shaun McArthur (KYN) 20 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals
Another good game from Australia's national champion. The statistics speak for themselves.

1. Alberto Garcia Ortiz (BEL) 22 points, 12 rebounds
Stepped up to the plate, tried hist best but not enough support around him. Accurate 10-13 field goal shooting.

Black Label Society defeated Cowboys From Hell (86-48)
When your team scores 15 points in one half, you know you ain't having a good day. Game was without a doubt over by half time. Fourth quarter junk time by the Cowboys only marginally made the match less of a thrashing.

3. Jonas Poppenbuttel (BLS) 20 points, 8 rebounds
Defence! Direct opponent score 6-21 including junk time.

2. Jose Garza (BLS) 16 points, 18 rebounds
Defence! Direct opponent score 2-11 including junk time plus 14 rebounds.

1. Silvijus Zuras (BLS) 10 points 8 rebounds
Defence! Direct opponent score 3-21 including junk time.

Week 7

Koopasaurus defeated Lewisham Wombats 96 - 91
This was a tight affair right from the outset. Both teams seemed evenly matched but on the TAB, Wombats would've been odds on favourite. The last 3 minutes determined the result. Wombats was up by 5 with 3 minutes remaining, but Koops clawed his way back to snatch the win. After the game, in the news conference, Koops directed this at Wombats "remember many seasons ago when we said out with the old and in the with new? Well the time has now come!!". Teams like Whitebeard, Kynlala Knights and Monkeybiz and Baxter were seen cheering, while teams like BLS, Pancakes and Park Bell were seen sneering. BHB was sitting on the fence.

3 Ö. Alkan (KOO) 22 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, 17 rating.
Was the last pillar of defense against Wombats LI offense. Provided excellent cover defense and a body in the paint. Was also very instrumental in grabbing the few rebounds that was available in such a close match.

2 A. Panagiotopoulos (WOM) 22 points, 17 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block
Was aggressive all night in trying to get his team over the line. Even prodded and probed his way to 6 offensive rebounds.

1 A. Rooney (KOO) 14 points, 7 assists, 5 steals, 2 treys
Was the main man down the stretch as he hit 3 threes in the last 3 mins of the game to help his team seal the win. His 5-15 FG was not spectacular but it was made up by his on ball defense and play making prowess.

Kynlala Knights defeated Baxter Bogans 80 - 59
Kynlala proves again that he is all business this season by knocking off another ABBL powerhouse. Not just knocking off but winning convincingly. Expect another deep CUP run for Kynlala Knights as he tries to consolidate this recent success. What is even more frightening is Dell'Asta scoring zero points in this win.

3 S. McArthur (KYN) 16 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds
Another very balanced game for McArthur as he did a bit of everything and then some. Only needed 30 minutes to get the job done.

2 P. Tau (KYN) 14 points, 19 rebounds 3 blocks, 1 steal
Could have easily challenged for the 3 points by grabbing a massive 19 rebounds. Defense wins games and rebounds takes up a large chunk of that defensive pie.

1 E. Dell'Asta (KYN) 16 rebounds, 4 assists
The last point was between Dirk Renaud and big Dell, but it went to big Dell cos of his defensive rebounds and 4 assists. Dirk kept Dell'Asta to zero points which is quite impressive.

Black Label Society defeated Bell Park SuperCats 87 - 75
This was a very tight defensive game and it was close right up til the very end. Again BLS has a knack of finding a way of winning. Fatur has been struggling on the offensive end lately so it meant Gary Howorth has had to carry the offensive load and he seems to have no problem doing that. Bell Parks bigs proved to be a nuisance and were very efficient in what they did.

3 G. Howorth (BLS) 25 points 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks
Played excellent defense and also top scored. Added in 4 rebs and 4 assist for good measure. He is certainly one of the main stars for BLS atm.

2 F. Yao Zhong (PB) 19 points 8 rebounds
Went one on one with the beast from the east, Fatur, and kept him in check. At the same time Zhong top scored for his side with 19 points. Playing well on both ends of the floor meant he got the 2 points.

1 A. García Ortiz (PB) 14 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists
The last point could've went to either A. García Ortiz or J. Garza but ultimately went to Orbitz for his efficiency.

Week 7

Whitebeard defeated Zazzocalypse 87 - 38
One of the top teams in the ABBL versus a tanking team... not much of a chance for Zazz. Game was over by half time. Don't know what kind of enhancement drugs Whitebeard is using for his players but this season has seen a massive spike in improvement from his team. He could very well be the one to challenge 3 time defending ABBL champion WA is a dump for the conference title.

3 T. Rusconi (WB) 31 points, 24 rebounds
Was ruthless and refused to come off. He was out for blood and racked up the stats.

2 J. Calzado (WB) 9 assists, 6 steals, 8 points
Also refused to come off even when he was whistled for his 6th foul. Had to be escorted off the court by his team mates.. Roid rage much?

1 A. Asvestas (WB) 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 8 points
Seemed like the only calm player out there a Whitebeard jersey. But he is still getting drug tested after the match nevertheless..

Pancakes with Jam and Cream lost to Monkey Business 80 - 92
For a team who sold half his players and then spent around 3mil on trainees, Pancakes did a pretty good job to keep up with new kid on the block Monkeybiz. Monkeybiz played the right tactics and both his big men was in for a big feasting.

3 D. Patziaras (MB) 26 points, 19 rebounds, 2 blocks
Nearly scored a 20/20, but even without it he still got the 3 points for a phenomenal effort. The first of the twin towers.

2 S. Deguang (MB) 19 points, 19 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block
Also nearly scored a 20/20 and provided the second pillar of attack and defense for Monkeybiz. The second of the twin towers.

1 J. Dowd (PAN) 27 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assist
Josh Dowd did his best to fill in the void left by the 3 week injury of Couto Costa. This dynamic player will go back to his natural position of SF once Couta Costa comes back.

SmeltzTroopers lost to Cowboys From Hell 60 - 66
Not sure if SmeltsTroops is tanking or semi tanking or making a semi comeback... but he sure made this game a competitive one. Also not sure if the 60-66 score line means anything but with the Cowboys from Hell behind it, who knows...

3 A. Villain (COW) 31 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists 2 blocks
This old dog did a bit of everything, but his 31 points was massive in the context of things. That is more then half of Smelts team.

2 K. Smeltz (SAS) 14 points, 24 rebounds, 3 blocks
He was thoroughly contained on the offensive end but his defensive rebounds kept his side in it though out the game.

1 D. Peixet (COW) 7 points, 21 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block
Played awesome defense on Smelts and also grabbed 8 offensive rebounds. Very easily could've gotten the 2 mvp points.

Week 8 Part 1

Lewisham Wombats defeated Monkey Business (89-75)
3 minutes in Yalduz was injured, it look like it was going to be Monkey's night however the Wombats rallied together to take control the rest of the game. At times they were shaky, during the second quarter they let the Monkeys back into the game but were able to withstand their fightback to take back control to win the match.

3. Aggelos Panagiotopoulos (LEW) 30 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks
Almost felt like stripping Aggy the 3 points for his poor defensive work on Patziaras who scored 20 points in 22 minutes shooting at 7-10. But there weren't any other real standouts.

2. Shachaf Kremer (LEW) 22 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks
Solid game, accurate shooting 8-12 but his direct opponent Deguang also had a good game with 13 points and 10 boards.

Hard to give the final vote. Toss up between Trimailovas, Awang, Patziaras or Deguang.

1. Dimitris Patziaras (MON) 20 points
Shot accurately at 7-10 with 20 points in 22 minutes however only 1 solitary rebound from this big man.

Whitebeard defeated Baxter Bogans (102-54)
One sided affair. Disappointing season so far for the Bogans after a fantastic last season.

3. Tommaso Rusconi (WB) 36 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists
Dominated the game without much trouble.

2.Jorge Feliciano (WB) 8 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, 5 steals
Fantastic all round performance. Also had Renaud's measure for the match who only shot at 2-15.

1.Joachim Calzado (WB) 12 points, 8 assists
Great work in defence, restricted De Man scoring to 3-12.

Week 8 Part 2

Bell Park SuperCats defeated SmeltzTroopers (76-63)
Big final quarter from the SuperCats led by big Garcia Ortiz got them over the line against the SmeltzTroopers. Eversince their fluke debut victory in the West against the Wombats, the SmeltzTroopers have not been able to register another win. Now on a 7 match losing streak, with recent star signings you would back them to eventually get one.

3. Alberto Garciz Ortiz (BEL) 21 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists
Mano to mano with the big Smeltz, was the difference when it mattered most. Had a fantastic final quarter with 6 points and 7 rebounds.

2. Ky Smeltz (SME) 26 points, 12 rebounds
When the team need you the most you are expected to step it up but not this guy instead he goes missing. This is not the first time it has happened too. Only added another 2 points and 2 rebounds before being send off to bench for the night after an offensive foul early in the 4th.

3. Fang Yao Zhong (BEL) 14 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks
Had a great night was instrumental in the SuperCats success.

Koopasaurus defeated Zazzocalypse (96-71)
With finals still on the line, Koops boys show exactly why they are still in contention as they comfortably outclassed Zazzocalypse.

3. Alfred Rooney (KOO) 14 points, 6 rebounds, 11 assists
Big Al aka Rooney as the playmaker was sensational as he show great touch to set up attacks.

2. Pero Stojakovic (KOO) 20 points, 14 rebounds, 3 blocks
Battled it out all night against Lawrance and came out on top which isn't an easy task.

1. Ozturk Alkan (KOO) 14 points, 9 rebounds
Just pipped Lawrance for the 1 vote. Fouled out early but did a great defensive job on Choong Kung who struggled to score all night.

Week 8 Part 3

Black Label Society defeated Kynlala Knights (92-73)
In what was an important game for second spot, victory has now put the Society on top of the Knights who has fallen to third on the ladder.

3. Gary Howorth (BLS) 50 points
After match conference Howorth muttered “All 6 votes please!”. If only I could! You don't often see 50 points scored against a fellow ABBL team but Howorth has showcased exactly why he has been touted as a future Australian star. Oh and did I forget to mention he was defending against Ton who had an appalling night shooting 6-20.

2. Grgur Fatur (BLS) 13 points, 10 rebounds
Supporting cast to Howorth.

1. Shaun McArthur (KYN) 21 points
Not much to choose from. Lucky to get a vote especially with his poor shooting from the arc shooting at 3-14.

Cowboys From Hell defeated Pancakes with Jam and Cream (89-71)
End of an era some might say. The Pancakes have officially shifted their focus to youth as they attempt to rejuvenate this squad. Alas, Cowboys get their second win of the season and have lifted themselves off the bottom of the ladder.

3. Josh Dowd (PAN) 30 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists
Besides Jaanus really the only player to step it up. Good all round performance but with lack of big men meant that they were easily exposed inside even if they went 1-3-1.

2. Camillo Marchesoli (CFH) 24 points, 16 rebounds
Good performance. Had difficult time matching up to Jaanus though.

1. Feyzullah Percin (CFH) 15 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists
Great all round performance. Only disappointment would be the poor shooting of 5-15.
