Training can definitely be effective in lower levels, even when your goal is a more modestly skill player rather than a killer U21/NT type. I trained a 19 yo allstar potential guy (Greg Lloyd) and got lucky with a 18 yo perennial allstar guy. There are other teams who have trained multiple star potential guys. So, it's definitely doable.

For all sorts of information about training, I'd recommend joining the USA offsite, where we have forums covering training all players. Then, you can send your training information to the crowdsourcing analysis, which gives hard details about the things that control training.

usa offsite forum is at http://s3.zetaboards.com/BuzzerBeater_USA_NT/index/
register there, then send a BB mail to sleet (28628) or magiker (30267) and tell then what email you used to register. Then they can activate your offsite forum account.

Information about the crowsourcing training analysis can be found here: (203921.1)
Also, you can use the training planner spreadsheet that rhyminsimon made, which incorporates data from the crowdsourcing project. You can predict how fast it will take to train players to certain skill levels. Link to training planner is here (100218.2)]

Like Tangosz said, you don't need to have a high potential guy to make train up a good player. I have trained star and allstar potential players on several occasions who have turned into a profit.

However, star potential is the lowest that I recommend training. I tried training a starter potential back in my D5 days, and he didn't last too long :)

Hey everyone !

I asked you how to train a player 3 seasons ago. Here he was:

Age:18
Jump Shot: awful Jump Range: mediocre
Outside Def.: average Handling: average
Driving: average Passing: atrocious
Inside Shot: atrocious Inside Def.: respectable
Rebounding: respectable Shot Blocking: mediocre
Stamina: pitiful Free Throw: awful

And here he is now:

Weekly salary: $ 8 376
Age: 21
Height: 6'8" / 203 cm
Potential: hall of famer

Jump Shot: proficient Jump Range: average
Outside Def.: strong Handling: sensational
Driving: tremendous Passing: average ↑
Inside Shot: respectable Inside Def.: strong
Rebounding: respectable Shot Blocking: mediocre
Stamina: awful Free Throw: inept

I wasted a few training sessions, because of injuries and also because I had to train stamina, which was very low.
What should I train in priority now ?

Okay. Seeing he is going to be a SF, I would say to train OD/ID as a priority. That's just me, though. Good luck!

EDIT: Adjusting to the comment below.

Actually, he's more likely to be a SF (or possibly a PF).

I really like the idea of making him a PF. if you just focus on the big skills for this season and some of next season, he can be a pretty kick ass PF. Nice job with him!

I would train his big skills for this season and next, like E.B.W. said. If you have time at the end of the season, playoffs, or a 2-game week, I recommend training JS, REB or PA. I would also put a bit of emphasis on OD/ID.

I've been training passing for a few weeks and i was planning on switching to JR for a few weeks, try and get 2-3 pops in that and then 1-2 more pops in OD, but then i'm not really sure. Do you guys think spending the rest of the season on JR and a bit of OD is the right move, if not what else should i train. If you agree with that for this season then what do i do next season?
