Well going back to last season when I did run it a couple of times.
Looking at PL so HCA doesn't matter and we use best lineups not training lineups that was where I used it against Smeltz (and got pumped)
2/3 vs SASTROOPERS
mediocre (high) Perimeter Defense
strong (high) Inside Defense
The week after man to man against Northcote.
strong (high) Perimeter Defense
strong (low) Inside Defense
So I went up 2/3 of a level in ID in exchange for losing three entire levels of OD.
As we said the rebounding was much better
respectable (high) Rebounding vs Smeltz.
average (medium) Rebounding vs Northcote.

Obviously I don't know your team, but you had a bit of a different make up in between the two games, against Smeltz Stibric played big minutes, and against Northcote Larbi played bigger minutes, perhaps that could be some reason for the difference? Maybe game shape played a role as well?
Its hard to say though, but I do think the rebounding is probably the biggest advantage. The extra 10-15 shots you can get from a 2-3 zone can be a big difference.

Neither are amazing defenders but Stibric is a very good rebounder while Larbi is more well rounded, has much better outside skills and has the dubious advantage of much better shot blocking. I was very strict on GS last season our whole federation tracked GS every week for the season so I can actually look up any players GS for any given week. Very interesting study I think we should do it again next season.

2-3 isn't "broken". It works as it is meant to work (so it seems anyway).
In RL, I often choose to play 2-3 simply because most lower-mid level teams have really poor shooting from outside. It can also be a cheap tactic to win finals games when coaching younger teams (even though some places won't allow you to play zone until a certain age, with good reason).
Also in RL, if you have a solid team that can distribute the ball well, it's actually quite easy to get it inside (right down low) against a 2-3. In rep we made a few plays (and loads of variations of those plays) for the times when teams would play 2-3 against us. They pretty much always regretted it. Some teams were just too good anyway, though...

in real life 95% of crappy teams plat 2/3 zones
i remember a couple of seasons ago in a weak b grade comp i was on a bad team but we beat every1 easy because we ran m2m & no1 could play against it & they always just panicked & took bad shots every possession
then the next season we "improved" by adding a better player 1 of only 3 decent players on the team but he refused to play m2m & we squeezed into 4th & lost 1st round

You will find this hard to believe but there was a team we used to play triangle and two against. They had this skinny kid on their team, but he was already on a CBA rep team seniors squad. He could make any shot from anywhere and was fast like lightning. The rest of his team was nothing special (although they had one really violent guy who had no teeth!) so we had him double teamed the entire match, full court even when he didn't have the ball. We still couldn't stop him scoring 20 a match against us (especially on fast breaks) but we made him hit such a low % and play under such pressure that we usually won the matches. We probably would have won anyway as we had five of the six best players on the court but as you said it was fun.
The very sad punchline to this story was that he got cancer and was dead by 22. An amazing player and a great competor I hope he is still 'ballin in heaven.

I'm starting to dislike your stories yoda. They always start out so happy and end in sadness
