Well it looks like now Duffill has established a strangelhold on this MVP and now it is his to lose. Fan Chung Ling of the Tigers is starting to look like his only credible threat although there are some very high quality players like Udi Samdup, Tome Salgueiro (Its S-Time baby!) and Mikey Bergman who are still at least statistically in the race and would be expected to continue to poll well. Interesting that the top two teams Billy Hoyles Boys and Chelsea Seagulls have only one player between them in the top 12 although they have 11 different players who have recieved votes between them. Can nyone catch Duffill or is this a one horse race? Will the MVP award not be named the Smeltz award but the Dufill award? In seven hours the teams will be locked in and we shall see!

WEEK SIX PART 1

Tremmell and my good self will be sharing the vote giving duties this week so i wills tart with his game.

Chumunga 100 - 133 Haggards

It was always going to be a tough outing for the 0-5 Chumungans (Cumungites?.....i need clarification here Tremmel!) taking on a very strong Haggards outfit. Any team who rolls out FCP are usually going to be in trouble and in this case game that was definitely the case. It was an interesting game to give votes in as Haggards never let Chununga into the game but there were a couple of outstanding individual efforts from their team.

3 Votes Tomé Salgueiro HAG 18pts 21reb 3 blocks

The Tome slaughtered Chumunga. His 18 points came from just 12 shots, he had the highest +/- in the game and he restricted the oppositions C to a miserable 7-23 from the floor. Throw in an outstanding 21 rebs and 3 blocks as well as only 2 TO's and as far as i'm concerned he was the best man on the court.

2 votes Leigham Phillips HAG 24pts 6 ass 1 stl

The SF with blonde mop had an outstanding offensive game top scoring for Haggards. He was 10-15 from the field including 3-4 on 3's, did not turn the ball over and did a very good job defensively on the Frenchman Amot. Phillips is now 9th in the league in scoring at nearly 20PPG and his ability to contribute on both ends of the floor must be a real bonus for his manager.

1 Vote Selçuk Sultan CHUM - 28pt 11reb 4 ass 5 stls

Again we enter murky territory when handing out the last vote. The Sultan of Swing was clearly Chumunga's best player but he did get out rebounded and was a sieve defensively in letting his direct opponents hit 8-9 from the field. That said his main competition for the 1 vote was the Belgian Bart De Wilde who had 4 turnovers and only 5 assists at PG.

In the end the all around performance was enough to get Sultan the 1 vote. He shot a very respectable 11-22, had 4 dimes and 5 steals as well as his 28 points and 11 boards.

To clarify your question noodles, yes we are known as chumungans. Now back to the votes.....

Da Fat Boy Slim vs. Billy Hoyles Boys 68 - 82 (36141708)

This was an especially important game for Duffill and the fat boy's versus the power team of the East in BHB. The fat boys basically needed a win in this game to stay in touch with a finals place and their loss on the day looks to see them probably finish with a mid-table finish. BHB however goes from strength to strength and is definetly the favourite for the East title half way through the season.

3. M. Bergman (Billy Hoyles Boys) - Coachnoodles made it known to the world recently that bergman is still well and truly chasing this MVP title and he hasn't let up the pressure with a best on court performance. He had 35 points on 12-23 with 7-11 3's, very impressive! Also had a handy 4 rebounds and 5 steals.

2. K. Duffill (Da Fat Boy Slim) - Duffman made sure Bergman didnt make massive ground on him with 2 votes collected from the game. Duffman had 24 points, 21 reb and 4 blocks as his major stats on the day.

1. M. Chongzheng (Billy Hoyles Boys) - Chongzheng picks up the 1 vote for the game with his 7-14 night shooting 18 points, 5 reb, 2 assists and 2 steals.

Slam ! vs. Glenelg Tigers 49 - 85 (36141705)

The next match of the round featured one of the bottom feeders in Slam versus the high flying Glenelg Tigers. Glenelg was looking to bounce back from their 1st loss and stay in touch with the top 2 and they produced a fabulous performance limiting Slam to just 49 points!!

3. B. da Gudiña (Glenelg Tigers) - Bernabe was the star of the night for the Tigers in only his 33mins of court time. He shot 10-15 (25 points), 14 reb, 2 assists and 6 massive blocks which contributed greatly to his teams dominant defensive performance.

2. F. Chung Ling (Glenelg Tigers) - Chung Ling was battling Slam's best player on the night but still showed enough to be rewarded with the 2 votes. From the PF position Chung Ling contributed 29 points, 14 boards, 4 assists, 3 steals and a block.

1. A. Ascariz (Slam) - And the 1 vote goes to Slam's best player on the night, Ascariz. He was a lone presence on offence scoring a team high 18 of the 49 points scored whilst also pulling in 16 reb.

CROCKERS vs. JW City Bulls 85 - 100 (36141706)

JW has shown up for another week of PL action against another tanker....But this time crockers didnt disgrace themselves with one of the great individual scoring performances by a crockers player. In any case though JW took the cake on this occasion.

3. Ð. Cvoro (JW City Bulls) - Cvoro played a fabulous game at the hard SF position abusing Javadov of the crockers. Cvoro had a huge Kevin Love type double double with 32 points, 21 reb, 2 assists and a steal to cap off a fine day at the office.

2. R. McPhail (Crockers) - McPhail takes the 2 votes from this game with a fantastic individual scoring performance at the Sg position where he gave the Bulls coach fitts all night. However he did not have enough support to pull off an upset. He finished with 50 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and tore shreads of his SG opponent.

1. B. Penik (JW City Bulls) - Penik was just slightly more efficient then his C teammate and as such takes the 1 vote. He shot 10-14 for his 25 points, had 12 boards and 2 steals on the night.

Chelsea Seagulls vs. Melbourne Goldfish 146 - 124 (36141703)

The next matchup was a good old Calamari scorefest with two great friends doing battle PL style! On this occasion though yodabig's Seagulls are the higher ranked team in the PL standings and accordingly they were too good and stay 2nd in the standings. Interestingly fishy won the TO count 42-37 in this game!!

3. X. Guanzheng (Melbourne Goldfish) - Im going to break normal protocol here and actually award the loser the 3 votes!! Sorry yoda....Xie ladies and gentlemen nearly had the ubber rare achievement of getting a quadruple double and dont let the scoreboard fool you, this was only a 7 point game at 3q time! Xie had 47 points on 20-39, 9 reb, 7 assists, 9n steals and a block! Not bad in a losing effort and a performance im sure that makes his owner fishy very proud...

2. C. Landrin (Chelsea Seagulls) - Landrin posted some pretty impressive stats in his 22min of court time. Shooting 9-11 he had 25 points, 9 reb, 2 assists and 5 steals.

1. R. Forbes (Chelsea Seagulls) - Forbes just sneaks in with the 1 vote this week with an allround performance at SF. He had 24 points, 6 reb, 6 assists and 6 steals to go with his 6 turnovers. Ha!

Western Titans vs. Northcote Slammers 81 - 89 (36141707)

And lastly on the Fishbowl PL seafood menu we had a matchup between two evenly matched mid table teams. Both teams took their scoring down low and had very similar stats and ratings for the game, however the buza gods were smiling upon the Slammers on this occasion.

3. D. Polglase (Northcote Slammers) - Familiar votegetter Polglase takes the 3 votes from this contest shooting a respectable 11-21 for his 31 points. He also had 10 rebounds and was on the winning team.

2. A. Rempała (Western Titans) - Rempala was Polglase's PF opponent on the night and was unlucky not to get the 3 votes which were only lost to him thanks to his team losing. He had 24 points and 14 reb while getting 2 steals and 2 blocks.

1. G. Trifonov (Northcote Slammers) - Ive mentioned before that i think sometimes the PG's miss out on some MVP love but on this occasion Trifonov caught my eye with his great 7-8 shooting while getting 6 rebounds and dropping 3 dimes.

This is my first attempt at the MV writeup. If it doesn't meet your expectations then I apologise. If you don't agree with my decisions please feel free to make an appeal. Now that's out of the way, lets begin.

Billy Hoyles Boys vs. Northcote Slammers 87 - 66 (36141714)
The favourite BHB defeated the Slammers with their usual tactics, m2m and motion. Their outside scoring proved to be unstoppable for most of the teams in the east this season. While Bergman on the side line celebrating with the cheerleaders in the 3rd, The Slammers tried to sneak in a come back but they didn't have enough firepower to overcome the rest of BHB team.

3 votes - Mikey Bergman - BHB
unarguably the best player of the match with leading 24 points in only 27 minutes.
2 votes - Pier Giorgio Masetti - NS
While Bergman raining in the 3pts, Pier did his best to keep his team in the race by going down low. Pier had 21 pts, 12rb and a very respectable 10-18 FG.
1 vote - Gianfrancesco Lucia - BHB
The last vote goes to Gianfransco for his rebounding effort which made him stand out amongst others that scored 14 points on the night. Gianfransco had 14 points, 18 rebounds.

Da Fat Boy Slim vs. JW City Bulls 97 - 56 (36141713)
The game was over after the 2nd quarter but out of respect for the opposing team, DFBS drank some coffee and took some pills to stay awake for the rest of the game.

3 votes - Kye Duffill a.k.a Duffman - DFBS
Duffman totally annihilated his defenders with 36 pts, 20 rb, 3blk and 2 asst. Ünal Egeli decided that it's not worth trying to stop the unstoppable so he took a timeout with 6 fouls in 12 minutes.
2 votes - Jasper Kent - JWA
The second vote easily go to Salvatore Mariotti (DFBS) but I can sense Jasper Kent desperation and commitment in trying to help his team through his 'persistent' stats, therefore I reward Jasper Kent with 2 MVP points for his effort. Jasper Kent scored 23 pts, 5 assts, 2 blk, 10 - 29 FG, 0-10 3pts.
1 vote - Salvatore Mariotti - DFBS
Third best scorer on the night with 22 points, 20 rb and 9-13 FG.

CROCKERS vs. Haggards 63 - 98 (36141711)
The Crockers are in a rebuilding mode, whatever they roster on the night is just for show. The Haggards took this opportunity and handed defeat to the crockers before 3rd, letting their starters hit the showers early leaving the rest to their scrubs.

3 votes - Tomé Salgueiro - H
The 25 yo portuguese center bullied his defender for 27 pts, 19 rb, 12-14fg and even have time to tried his luck at the perimeter.
2 votes - Mövsüm Javadov - C
Movsum is still young and in training but proved to be a troublesome for his more experienced defender, scoring 20 pts, 3 assts, 5 rb and 9-14 fg. He also did well defensively, keeping his opponent to just 8 points.
1 vote - Pero Mayhew - H
Even tho he scored less but he is more efficient than others with his 7-14fg. Pero scored 15 points, pulled 12 rebounds in just 25 minutes.

Melbourne Goldfish vs. Chumunga 91 - 57 (36141709)
The Fishy destroyed the Chumunga in another walkerover-liked game. Chumunga, in tanking mode, fielded scrubs and Sultan to entertain the crowd but there was no crowd on the night just the cleaners and water boys.

3 votes - Xie Guanzheng - MG
Even tho the game was over by 2nd half, Xie insisted to stay on for 48 minutes to make sure he gets his 3 MVP votes. Xie score 30 points in 48 minutes against scrubs and grabbed 7 rebounds.
2 votes - Radosław Rymer - MG
Xie faithful sidekick deserves 2 votes for being more efficient than sultan on the court. He scored 18 points in 25 minutes with a 6-12 fg.
1 vote - Selçuk Sultan - Ch
Sultan had to put in more effort because the scrubs couldn't provide any assist. He was the most productive player in his team scoring 20 points in 48 minutes, 9-19 fg, 19 rbs and 3 blks. This probably deserve 2 mvp points but one thing let him down is his defense. During Sultan's 48 minutes on the court, his matchup scored 13 points with a 6-11 fg.

Western Titans vs. Glenelg Tigers 88 - 74 (36141712)
This is probably the best match of the night, both teams performed their best to fight for ladder position. I am quite surprised to see another team with similar game ratings to mine, Glenelg Tigers are well balanced in defense and overpowering inside offense. The Titans demonstrated a very impressive outside scoring but in the end it was their inside defense that led them to their defeat.

3 votes - Fan Chung Ling - GT
The 25 yo chinaman used his kungfu to scored 26 pts with 12-22 fg, grabbed 10 rebounds in 35 minutes against his opponent. very deserving of 3 mvp votes.
2 votes - Pablo Lobato - WT
Pablo, the artist is well deserved of 2 votes for his effort in providing 9 assists even against the opponent tough defense. He also lead his team in scoring with 20 pts.
1 vote - Bernabé da Gudiña - GT
Glenelg Tigers' second tower scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Slam ! vs. Chelsea Seagulls 59 - 88 (36141710)
What's going on here? another tanker? walkover-liked game? No, just Seagulls showing no mercy against the SLam! and their short roster. Slam! probably been struggling with minutes and game shapes after losing their best Center to a horrific injury, a slight pinky finger dislocation. The Slam! will continue to struggle for another 3 weeks before their center come back from rehab.

3 votes - Garth Larbi - CS
The Seagulls rubbed salt into the wound by playing a look inside offense. Slam! without their main Center to hold up the inside defense and let Garth and Sherwin to wreck havoc. 3 votes go to Garth for a better defensive effort, with 23 rb, 5 stls and 2 blk and 24 pts.
2 votes - Jared Sherwin- CS
Not his best performance but he still managed 20pts, 14rb and 2blks.
1 vote - Paolo Paranaense - S!
While Maximiliano (Maximus) Gamboa is sidelined, Paolo has taken over the leadership role and tried to save his team from a disgraceful defeat. On the night, he scored 19pts, grabbed 8 rb.

Done! YES!!!!

Ok here is round 8's MVP's

Round 8 Part 1

Slam ! vs. Melbourne Goldfish 115 - 103 (36141715)

To start off the round in the East we had a mid table tussle between Slam and the Melbourne Goldfish. This game was a cracker and went down to the last quarter with Slam's push the ball triumphing over fishy's R&G when it come to the crunch.

3. A. Ascariz (Slam) - Ascariz was the dominant force of the game for Slam, wheeling and dealing his way to a tremendous stat line. He had 36 points on 14-25, 23 rebounds, 4 assists a block and a steal.

2. X. Guanzheng (Melb Goldfish) - Xie couldnt get the 3 this round but is rewarded for his effort of carrying the Goldfish to a 2 point 3q time lead before they got mauled in the last...Xie had 35 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.

1. P. Paranaense (Slam) - The big brazilian joined his MVP teammate in abusing fishy inside and is to be rewarded with the 1 vote. He hit 27 points with 15 rebounds and 4 blocks.

Northcote Slammers vs. JW City Bulls 99 - 110 (36141720)

The next game of the round proved to be another sensationally even matchup of teams from the easts midtable again. JW's Bulls took the cake however in a PTB battle with his better defence, rebounding and offensive flow proving telling down the stretch.

3. L. Wai Yuen (JW City Bulls) - Wai Yuen, the versatile taiwanese SF proven a handful for the Slammers and takes the top votes out of this game. He had 25 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.

2. P. Masetti (Northcote Slammers) - One of my favourite perennial votegetters Masetti put together a fabulous game but it was all in vain in the last quarter when the Slammers went missing. He had his usual efficient night with 28 points, 10 rebs and 3 assists.

1. Ü. Egeli (JW City Bulls) - The Bulls centre rounds out the voting with an efficient display of 14 points and 18 rebs against the Slammers bigs.

Da Fat Boy Slim vs. Haggards 110 - 102 (36141718)

Another game in the East in round 8, another close result! This time we had 2 teams with a mathematical shot of making the top 2 squaring off. Haggards favoured his more outside influenced motion offence whilst DFBS was looking all inside. Once again it looks like better defence won the day down the stretch with DFBS getting up.

3. H. Degao (DFBS) - What a PG DFBS has on its books here! Degao was all over the place in this game as shown in his stat line of 28 points, 9 assists and 5 rebounds whilst also having 1 steal and 1 block.

2. L. Phillips (Haggards) - Phillips was the most efficient of the Haggard scorers and takes the 2 votes for his efforts. He had 25 points, 2 rebs, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. And what do u know 2 MVP votes haha.

1. N. Costache (DFBS) - Costache was too big and too strong inside for DFBS. He posted stats of 19 points, 2 rebs and 3 assists in only 20mins of courtime.

Round 8 Part 2

CROCKERS vs. Chumunga 63 - 61 (36141716)

The next game of the round was a battle of the 2 tankers from the Guppies, Crockers and Chumunga. In a scrappy affair the Crockers boys took the win and basically handed the Chumungans the East wooden spoon for the season. Booooo

3. M. Javadov (CROCKERS) - Javadov takes the 3 votes this game over his more highly publicised teammate McPhail thanks to McPhail's atrocious shooting efficiency. Javadov was effective for his 17 points and 11 rebounds and takes max votes.

2. S. Sultan (Chumunga) - The Sultanator takes the 2 votes as he was the star for Chumunga in the close losing effort. He had a double double of 16 points and 22 rebs...

1. R. McPhail (CROCKERS) - And finally McPhail takes the 1 vote with a game high score but it wasnt efficient enough for top votes. He had 28 points and 8 rebs for the game.

Billy Hoyles Boys vs. Glenelg Tigers 81 - 83 (36141719)

This game was another cracker and possibly a preview of the East finals. Glenelg came into the game basically needing to win to stay in the hunt and they fell over the line by 2 points after leading by 11 at 3q time.

3. F. Chung Ling (Glenelg Tigers) - Chung Ling was the dominating force inside for the Tigers hitting a game high 24 points and 13 rebs. He shot a fantastic 12-21 against an ABBL team which is impressive.

2. M. Edwards (Billy Hoyles Boys) - Edwards beat out the Burgerman for the 2 votes once agin because he was more efficient and had a great all round game. He posted 21 points, 6 rebs and 5 assists for the match but it wasnt enough for the win.

1. M. Bergman (Billy Hoyles Boys) - And Bergmann takes the 1 vote from the game with his 23 points, 8 assists and 4 rebs for the game.

Western Titans vs. Chelsea Seagulls 89 - 91 (36141717)

And last on the menu for the round was a high profile matchup between the Seagulls and the Titans. This was a must win for the Seagulls to keep momentum going in the battle for the top 2! In the end they withstood the late charge from the titans and replace BHB as top of the table with 3 rounds to go.

3. O. Ðuričko (Chelsea Seagulls) - The duck man takes max votes in this game for his tireless efforts at SG. Duricko had 33 points, 6 rebs, 1 assist, 1 steal and a block for the game.

2. U. Samdup (Western Titans) - Samdup won the battle of the centres in this game hitting 23 points, collecting 16 boards, 2 steals and 4 blocks. But it wasnt enough on the day...

1. J. Sherwin (Chelsea Seagulls) - The Gulls also collect the 1 vote with Sherwin losing his C battle but winning the war with his team. He still posted a respectable 15 points and 16 boards before fouling out after 44mins.
