Week 8 Part 2

Bell Park SuperCats defeated SmeltzTroopers (76-63)
Big final quarter from the SuperCats led by big Garcia Ortiz got them over the line against the SmeltzTroopers. Eversince their fluke debut victory in the West against the Wombats, the SmeltzTroopers have not been able to register another win. Now on a 7 match losing streak, with recent star signings you would back them to eventually get one.

3. Alberto Garciz Ortiz (BEL) 21 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists
Mano to mano with the big Smeltz, was the difference when it mattered most. Had a fantastic final quarter with 6 points and 7 rebounds.

2. Ky Smeltz (SME) 26 points, 12 rebounds
When the team need you the most you are expected to step it up but not this guy instead he goes missing. This is not the first time it has happened too. Only added another 2 points and 2 rebounds before being send off to bench for the night after an offensive foul early in the 4th.

3. Fang Yao Zhong (BEL) 14 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks
Had a great night was instrumental in the SuperCats success.

Koopasaurus defeated Zazzocalypse (96-71)
With finals still on the line, Koops boys show exactly why they are still in contention as they comfortably outclassed Zazzocalypse.

3. Alfred Rooney (KOO) 14 points, 6 rebounds, 11 assists
Big Al aka Rooney as the playmaker was sensational as he show great touch to set up attacks.

2. Pero Stojakovic (KOO) 20 points, 14 rebounds, 3 blocks
Battled it out all night against Lawrance and came out on top which isn't an easy task.

1. Ozturk Alkan (KOO) 14 points, 9 rebounds
Just pipped Lawrance for the 1 vote. Fouled out early but did a great defensive job on Choong Kung who struggled to score all night.

Week 8 Part 3

Black Label Society defeated Kynlala Knights (92-73)
In what was an important game for second spot, victory has now put the Society on top of the Knights who has fallen to third on the ladder.

3. Gary Howorth (BLS) 50 points
After match conference Howorth muttered “All 6 votes please!”. If only I could! You don't often see 50 points scored against a fellow ABBL team but Howorth has showcased exactly why he has been touted as a future Australian star. Oh and did I forget to mention he was defending against Ton who had an appalling night shooting 6-20.

2. Grgur Fatur (BLS) 13 points, 10 rebounds
Supporting cast to Howorth.

1. Shaun McArthur (KYN) 21 points
Not much to choose from. Lucky to get a vote especially with his poor shooting from the arc shooting at 3-14.

Cowboys From Hell defeated Pancakes with Jam and Cream (89-71)
End of an era some might say. The Pancakes have officially shifted their focus to youth as they attempt to rejuvenate this squad. Alas, Cowboys get their second win of the season and have lifted themselves off the bottom of the ladder.

3. Josh Dowd (PAN) 30 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists
Besides Jaanus really the only player to step it up. Good all round performance but with lack of big men meant that they were easily exposed inside even if they went 1-3-1.

2. Camillo Marchesoli (CFH) 24 points, 16 rebounds
Good performance. Had difficult time matching up to Jaanus though.

1. Feyzullah Percin (CFH) 15 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists
Great all round performance. Only disappointment would be the poor shooting of 5-15.

SmeltzTroopers vs. Black Label Society 78 - 95
Easy win for the best side in the west PL, BLS Even though smelts bought a new PG and SG he was still no match. He claims he bought up for the the CUP campaign til he met a brickwall in wa is a dump. BLS has most of his players healthy and peaking at the right time and is also trying to keep up with wa is a dump.

3 S. Žuras BLS 20 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists

2 J. Garza BLS 29 points, 13 rebounds

1 K. Smeltz SME 18 points 14 rebounds

Kynlala Knights vs. Whitebeard 77 - 82
Pretty much the top two teams in the west PL going at it atm, and what a result that was, whitebeard was the favourite going in, but no one knew it would be this close.

3 J. Forastero WB 16 points ,14 rebounds

2 J. Calzado WB 18 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals

1 P. Tau KYN 13 points, 19 rebounds

Koopasaurus vs. Baxter Bogans 110 - 120
Inside versus outside, outside came out on top. If only Koops played a more solid defense tactic, the game wouldve been a lot closer. So the argument of how broken 2-3 zone rages on.

3 D. Renaud BAX 34 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists

2 P. Stojakovic KOO 22 points, 14 rebounds

1 D. Lopinš BAX 26 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists

Pancakes with Jam and Cream vs. Bell Park SuperCats 88 - 116
Another powerhouse in bell park gave it to the ailing pancakes. Pancakes has suffered serious long term injuries all season and has got into rebuild mode when he sold off his franchise player, couta costa.

3 A. García Ortiz BP 22 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists

2 Z. Kapracis BP 25 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists

1 A. Hipólito PAN 24 points, 11 rebounds

Monkey Business vs. Zazzocalypse 126 - 114
Inside versus outside again. Outside wins again. hmmm do you see the trend? but this was a bad example cos zazz is pretty much in tank mode and only fielded 6 players. The only reason it was a reasonable scoreline was of Gary Lawrance who is turning out to be a force to be reckoned with.

3 M. Manara MB 32 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists

2 Z. Bui MB 27 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists

1 G. Lawrance ZAZ 26 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists

Lewisham Wombats vs. Cowboys From Hell 102 - 82
a top abbl team versus a top div2 team. still a large gap between the two which shows how far the newer teams have to go before they can compete against the top dogs in the abbl. having said that the cowboys are very close on promoting to the abbl himself.

3 A. Panagiotopoulos WOM 44 points, 18 rebounds

2 S. Kremer WOM 16 points, 17 rebounds

1 B. Yalduz WOM 11 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists

Well, with 2 games to go, Aggy has an unassailable lead. Let's give a round of a applause to the Wombat's star power forward!

Fishbowl West MVP Season 5 Week 10

Second last week of the season and everyone is still trying to catch the surprising Whitebeard.

Pancakes with Jam and Cream vs. Black Label Society 68 - 101

The end of the era has already been announced and this thumping emphasises it. With Kuman and PCC gone the strength of the Pancakes is long gone and now they are relying on Dowd (who had a shocker 2/15) and Hipólito to get them home. Against the depth and strength of recently crowned cup winner BLS this was really no contest.

3 Gary Howorth Black Label Society 25 PTS 16.0 rating. Top scoring for the winning team was a good start but 1 assist for a PG is horrible and would have seen him on 1 or even 0 votes except for the blanket he threw over Dowd keeping him to just 8 points in 48 minutes on a horrible percentage.

2 Grgur Fatur Black Label Society 14 PTS 12 REB 16.5 rating. A warmup for his cup final where he was the the MVP, Grgur did whatever it is a giant neanderthal is supposed to do on a basketball court. Here is a video of his cousins:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTFqBvmL3OE

1 Alejo Hipólito Pancakes with Jam and Cream 23 PTS 11 REB. While his team was geting flogged at least Hippoman put in a decent effort. Currently for sale for $1 he could be yours!

Koopasaurus vs. Whitebeard 57 - 71

When the all-conquering Whitebeard took on the vastly improved Koopasaurus you may have thought the result would be closer, but not really. There is no doubt that Whitebeard is one of the top four teams in the nation at the moment and will hopefully even give WA IS A DUMP a tough test in the ABBL playoffs. Koops choice of a patient offence may be a sign that he was looking more to keep the margin low than to actually win. Whitebeard shot badly, didn't dominate the boards and had only 13 assists, so how did they win? Defence. Take Koops 0/20 from 3 point range as a rather extreme example.

3 José Forastero Whitebeard 11 PTS 16 REB 16.0 rating. No-one shot well against Koop's tough defence but Jose rebounded well, defended and fouled his man (who is paid more than double his wages) out in 30 minutes. Nice.

2 Tommaso Rusconi Whitebeard 15 PTS 15 REB. Again limited a much more highly paid Koopasaur while having a nice game himself.

1 Alexis Asvestas Whitebeard 18 PTS. Top scored but again a dissapointing effort for a top tier PG to have just 3 assists in 39 minutes even if playing SF.

Sorry Wazza, 5/25 FGs just doesn't get you anything.

Monkey Business vs. Baxter Bogans 79 - 95

The Bogans won playing outside vs the Biz going inside. The Bogans had better defensive ratings.

3 Donats Lopinš Baxter Bogans 27 PTS. Top scored.

2 Dimitris Patziaras Monkey Business 21 PTS 16 REB. Scored and rebounded.

1 Giovanni Castaldo Baxter Bogans 22 REB. Top rebounds.

Fishbowl West MVP Season 5 Week 10 Part 2

Sun is shining time to go out for a bike ride before the thunder, lightining and gale force winds start again. Will finish later.

Back.

Lewisham Wombats vs. Bell Park SuperCats 91 - 100

Predictably the Wombats threw the ball inside to Aggie but less predictably the Cats were even better at throwing the ball inside to their big men. And is it just me or is Hahi bin Awang a big dissapointment for someone that earns $140,000 a week? 3 assists and 4 turnovers while shooting 7/16 - my $10,000 PG can put up those sort of figures and regularly does! The Wombats PG position also had the lowest PTS per possession in the game. Birol Yalduz also had a stinker with 2 points and 6 fouls in 31 minutes.

3 Alberto García Ortiz Bell Park SuperCats 21 PTS 12 REB 5 AST. The battle of the PFs was intense in this match and they were both very effective but in the end Ortiz took the three points by the slimmest of margins because he had more assists than the Wombats PG.

2 Aggelos Panagiotopoulos Lewisham Wombats 24 PTS 14 REB 16.0 rating. Superb performance, top socre, 1 off top rebounds, .5 off top rating but couldn't quite contain Ortiz enough to get the win.

1 Kamilis Fedorcukas Bell Park SuperCats 18 PTS 6 AST 16.0 rating. Shot very well against tough opposition as well as passing and defending. Very solid.

Cowboys From Hell vs. Zazzocalypse 105 - 87

Ah the fates. Last season Cowboys looked unbeatable, while Zazz had to fight off a very strong South Brisbane Vultures who should never have been relegated anyway if it wasn't for the extreme luck of the Koop. One lineup for the Cowboys didn't set properly and they stay down and now have to deal with a VERY strong Da Fat Boy Slim and Adam's Guns while Zazz is raking in the big money in the ABBL while not even having to fight to avoid bottom due to the tanking Smeltztroopers (and the other 50% of the ABBL who are tanking this season). So now Cowboys are making nothing and will probably stay in division II while Zazz is making a fortune and only has to win two games to survive for another season of tanking in the ABBL. Fate can be cruel.

3 Daniel Peixet Cowboys From Hell 16 PTS 12 REB 14.5 rating. Very efficient shooting and a great job keeping his opponent to single figures got DP the MVP. Cowboys CRUSHED Zazz on the boards 69-37.

2 Feyzullah Perçin Cowboys From Hell 21 PTS 10 AST 5 REB. Great scoring and assists and dammingly more rebounds than Zazz's PF.

1 Tonko Švorinic Zazzocalypse 23 PTS 6 AST. Long time Zazz player high scored but it is difficult when your opponent has so many more possessions.

SmeltzTroopers vs. Kynlala Knights 73 - 97

Tanking Smeltztroopers vs a real threat to win the PL should be a slaughter. At least you can be sure the Troopers will pound the ball inside to Smeltz right? Wow the world is confused by this one when they played patient and their best player by a mile was their PG Qian Zhijian and Smeltz himself had just 6 points.

3 Duong Tôn Kynlala Knights 27 PTS 15.5 rating. Needed just 27 minutes to wrap up this one before taking a rest, his one blemish was the way he let Qian Zhijian go completely off.

2 Qian Zhijian SmeltzTroopers 43 PTS. Total ball hogging PG who has 0 assists probably shouldn't get 2 votes but 43 PTS isn't an average score and he even hit them at a reasonable rate and added 5 rebounds.

1 Pitama Tau Kynlala Knights 10 PTS 11 REB 5/7 FGS 15.5 rating. After the game he asked the media, "Who is the best Center?"

Week 11 Part 1

Black Label Society defeated Lewisham Wombats (106-87)
Final game just before the playoffs. The Society show exactly why they belong there with a comfortable victory over the Wombats.

3. Chan Po Sing (BLS) 17 points, 12 rebounds, 9 assists
Po Sing almost had a triple double. Also restricted bin Awang's input to shooting at 2-13 even though he had 8 assists.

2. Aggelos Panagiotopoulos (LEW) 27 points, 12 rebounds
Aggy continue his fine form in the private league shooting at 12-14.

1. Grgur Fatur (BLS) 15 points, 6 rebounds
Garza and Kremer both missed out because of their poor defence performances on each other. Grgur was one of the differences as his defensive work on Yalduz help ensure victory. Yalduz shot a poor 5-21.

Whitebeard defeated Monkey Business (93-69)
It has been a surprising season for the Whitebeards as they bounced back from a poor last season (2-9) in the Fishbowl to take minor premiership crown in the West and doing so undefeated.

3. Jose Forastero (WB) 22 points, 13 rebounds
Got the 3 votes with his defensive effort on Deguang who shot an ordinary 7-24.

2. Tommaso Rusconi (WB) 22 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists
Good all round performance but had a struggle against Patziaras

1. Dimitris Patziaras (MON) 28 points, 6 rebounds
Just got the vote ahead of Feliciano. Poor rebounding almost cost him, was top scorer for the game.
