As far as I know at least (based on an educated guess, and the fact that I've never seen a discussion about it in the forums), there's no other advantage/edge over other teams in having homegrown team, in terms of how BB games are actually simulated. Please correct me if I'm wrong though - I'd love to be wrong in this case.

However, in my case the "advantages" of having a homegrown team are found elsewhere anyway, and those advantages aren't restricted to somewhat increased merchandise income.

It's always great to beat a team which has purchased players playing in important roles. But it's quite, if not very hard to reach big success in terms of winning championships, cup competitions etc. (please remember though that you can - and in the case of HG teams it could be sometimes good idea to actually do so - to determine what 'success' means to you/to your team, as your goal, should you want to set up one, doesn't necessarily need to be winning championships on the highest level in your country in order to be motivating to you). There are some example of big success within HG community, but nevertheless, don't expect that to be easy. This isn't said to discourage you guys to getting started or keeping up the good work you've started already (actually vice versa), but rather to be able to be realistic about your expectations (in terms of especially quick success, the way it's typically understood in competitive team sports).

So that's why I'm looking so much forward to playing with "equal" playing field against fellow HG managers, and that's why I'm aiming to get the BuzzerBeater Home Grown-league started. In BBHG league, many homegrown teams would have a chance to achieve something meaningful with higher probability (compared to their own league where purchasing players isn't restricted), and managers considering starting a HG team/converting their existing team into a HG team might also have one more interesting reason to take this challenging yet rewarding path of becoming totally homegrown.

Hello! Would the league go towards our training minutes?

If NOT, then the Buckner Bandits would love to participate.

I am just a Div 4 team, and not very good, but I've been enjoying the HomeGrown method! :-)

I'm not part of a BuzzerBeater staff or one of owners (as you probably have guessed/noticed), but I don't see any scenario in which minutes played in this kind of BBHG league would affect training minutes or anything else.

In the case we would organize this league ourselves, these would be pick up matches after all. (And if BuzzerBeater would make it an official league for qualifying participants, I'm pretty sure they would make certain that those games wouldn't affect any other portion of the game, including players' game shape, injuries, training minutes, etc.).

You'd be more than welcome to join the league no matter what your teams current skill level is - so I'm glad to announce that the current count of teams willing to participate currently then stands at 6!

What I find interesting and enjoyable is that, while it's natural that teams' "skill/power rankings" (by which I mean number that would describe team strength) will change from season to season, it'll occur in slower and in a way "more natural" fashion within Homegrown community, as it happens through training and skill declines. I mean especially in some lower level leagues it's not unheard of that some teams throw couple of million dollars (or more) on the table just before playoffs, buy 1-3 "monsters" to their roster, and then the balance of the league and team "power rankings" change dramatically and in many instances the excitement of even matchups will turn into a massive favorite/underdog situations (within 1-2 weeks from purchase, as the lowered game shape has reseted towards normal value). In BBHG league that would never be an issue... :)

So as there are 6 of us, practically we could already get something started if everyone feels like it, but on the other hand, there's not necessarily a need to rush and it might be great to have even a bit bigger amount of participating teams at the launch of the new league. Especially as I'd personally join this kind of league 100 times out of 100, so I hope the possible launch of a new league would awake even bigger interest among the homegrown teams community. Having said that, I'm very glad to having received (a non-binding) "verbal commitment" (as they say in NCAA AFAIK) from 5 of you fellow managers.

Anyway, I can't help myself to remind all of you guys; there's still room though here in the forum and in my inbox if you feel like joining the league that'll be established in the (hopefully) near future... :)

So that makes 7 of us currently willing to participate - we're not far away from a 10-12 team mark, which would give us even more options in terms of a league system (should we establish and manage the league ourselves; in the case it would be official part of BB, developers would likely be willing to stick with the already established league formats and rules used in league&playoff play, or Buzzerbeater Madness). Of course, we could already start it out should we decide to do so, but on the other hand I'd personally like to wait for at least 1-5 teams to join, which would give us more flexibility and choice in terms of league system used.

And, I wouldn't mind if BuzzerBeater owners or developers (or staff!) would give their opinion on whether it'd be realistic for BB Homegrown (BBHG) league to become an official part of BuzzerBeater in the near future!?

But what becomes to league system used, I think for instance even as low as 10-12 teams would be enough to have a typical/regular kind of league, with 8 proceeding to playoffs. Or like I mentioned before, there are numerous league systems/methods to choose from... In the case of 8 participating teams, we could for example make 2 groups of teams who would play EITHER ONLY against teams in their group OR ALSO against teams on other group.

In this kind of two group league system teams could be divided into groups based on salary of top 12 players, or if some teams would have less players than that, maybe based on total salary of maximum top 12 earners of team divided by amount of players. In practice it goes so that if some team has got 9 players for instance, salaries would be added and divided by 9; if some other team has 15 players, salaries of only top 12 earners would be count together and divided by 12. And then Group A would receive teams that have salary ranks 1st, 4th, 6th and 7th, and Group B teams ranked as 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 8th in salaries.

But again, this is only an example of many possibilities (as many different and interesting league and playoff formats are used around the world in different team sports), but in this example I was trying to make it as fair to all as possible. (I might have made a mistake on setting teams to groups based on salaries, but I made that division partly by intuition and some reasoning - if people would find Group A ranks 1,3,5,7 and B ranks 2,4,6,8 better option that would also be fine - however I guess Group A would then be tougher group to advance to playoffs from).
