Week 2 Part 2

Pancakes with Jam and Cream defeated Lewisham Wombats (98-96)
By far the match of the round for the West. An injury to Trimailovas after halftime break didn't help the Wombats cause. With pride at stake, the two Kevin big boys fought it out the whole night with a massive twist at the end of the game.

2 WTF moments + 1 BS = Negative 3 MVP points for new Wombats recruit Awang
Wombat fans are outraged with the recent signing of the Australian national superstar. Questions are raised whether Awang choked under the pressure or did it have something to do with the man he met just before the start of the final quarter who handed him a very large paperbag?

Wombats — Pancakes
4 0:07 96 — 95 Foul called on R. Jaanus (H).
4 0:07 96 — 95 Free throw missed by H. bin Awang (A).
4 0:07 96 — 95 Free throw missed by H. bin Awang (A).
4 0:07 96 — 95 M. Kuman (H) corrals the missed shot.
4 0:07 96 — 95 30 second timeout called by Pancakes with Jam and Cream.
4 0:00 96 — 98 J. Dowd (H) forces up a three from the top of the arc, guarded closely by H. bin Awang (A). Scored.
4 0:00 96 — 98 A buzzerbeater for J. Dowd (H)!
4 0:00 96 — 98 End of period.

1. 7 seconds left on the clock Jaanus fouls Awang and bring him to the line only to see him miss two free throws after shooting a perfect 3-3 the whole night.
2. Right on buzzerbeater Dowd forces a three with Awang "guarding closely" only to let Dowd score his only 3 point for the night.
3. First game of the Buzzerbeater league season up against the Bogans see Awang scream in pain after 3 minutes on the court. This sees him on the sideline for the next 2 weeks. The fans certainly won't be pleased with his performances so far.

Another difficult game to cast the 3-2-1 MVP votes. All the big men had a great game but was unable to clearly get on top of their opponents. Really tempted to give Dowd some points even after Awang shocking final seconds of the game.

3. Plinio Couto Costa (PAN) 20 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists
Just snuck in for the 3. Had no rest for the night playing the full 48 minutes with 7 points in the final term. Did well defensively restricting his direct opponents to shooting 6-16. Shocking from the 3 point line 0-8.

2. Birol Yalduz (LEW) 14 points, 8 rebounds
Did well in a team effort restricting his opponent to only 6-18 as well as 3 turnovers.

1. Maciej Kuman (PAN) 23 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists
Kuman just got the solitary point. Good all round effort, poor shooting from the 3 point line 1-7 and failed to stop Kremer from scoring. But dominated the boards against Kremer.

Monkey Business defeated Kynlala Knights (95-88)
The Monkeys are back in business after coming back from being down at the main break. The only game in the West to feature a non mano to mano defence which may have cost the Knights the victory.

3. Dimitris Patziaras (MON) 17 points, 13 rebounds
Kept the team in the game at halftime. Patziaras would have to be pleased with Tau only shooting 3-11.

2. Duong Ton (KYN) 19 points, 6 assists
Ton's defensive pressure was outstanding which his direct opponents only shooting 4-16 although they had 8 assists between them.

1. Shi Deguang (MON) 15 points, 18 rebounds
Deguang dominated the boards but gave up a little too many points to the Knights big men. If Deguang had shot much better from the line, the Monkeys would have won the game more comfortably.

Week 2 Part 3

Zazzocalypse defeated SmeltzTroopers (110-92)
Two freshly promoted ABBL teams battling for honours. Formerly known as the SASTROOPERS, the SmeltzTroopers came into the game on a high after beating the Wombats in the last outing while Zazzocalypse was ready to bounce back after defeat against the reigning champions. With the SmeltzTroopers looking likely to tank their first ABBL season, the Zazzocalypse had it easy and won the game without too much trouble.

3. Jean-Philippe Meneau (ZAZ) 28 points, 6 assists
Equal top scorer but also shut down his opponent to only shooting 6-20.

2. Jorge Antonio Villarreal (ZAZ) 28 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists
Toss up between pre-season troll and Villarreal for the two points. Villarreal just snuck in as he soundly help create enough of a lead by 3 quarter time to see off the SmeltzTroopers.

1. Ky Smeltz (SME) 27 points, 10 rebounds
A lazy 20-10 double for the fatcat. Kept the team in the game at halftime but was no where to be seen during the third quarter when Zazzacolypse started to pile on the pressure.

Koopasaurus defeated Cowboys From Hell (94-83)
Coming back from hell after failing to promote out of the division two to the big boys in ABBL, the Cowboys would have liked a victory against the Koopasaurus boys. As usual the the Koopasaurus boys show some ugly thuggery by taking out Fitnat early in the game which eventually helped their cause. But it was still a close fight up until the final quarter as the Koop troops continue their fine start to the Fishbowl season.

3. Nikola Beltrame (KOO) 18 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks
The enforcer show exactly what he wasn't, a fouling king. Instead he controlled the game with 6 points, 4 boards and 2 assists in the final term to help save the Koopasaurus from defeat. Beltrame also shut down the Banks who only shot 6-17 for the game.

2. Wazza Kennerley (KOO) 21 points, 7 assists
A sound game from Wazza. Stepped up in the final term with 8 points and 4 assists. Defensively stopped Monaco and Fitnat from scoring accurately but leaked too many points for the 3 votes.

1. Ozturk Alkan (KOO) 14 points, 16 rebounds
The soon to be Australian citizen if he can pass the citizenship test defended brilliantly as he forced Rosello to shoot only 5-17 for the night. However this man is not a one trick pony as he show a solid game in offence shooting a comfortable 7-9.

Week 3 Part 1

Kynlala Knights defeated Lewisham Wombats (89-88)
The Knights were able to snatch a victory against unlucky Wombats even with superstar small forward Dell'Asta injured early in the game. The winless Wombats have now lost all three of their games by a total margin of only 10 points! No Awang and poor free throw shooting might have been the factors in the loss for the Wombats.

3. Aggelos Panagiotopoulos (LEW) 26 points, 19 rebounds
3 votes for Aggy, was the dominate man for the boards. Kept the team in the game but struggle for impact in the final quarter. Did well defensively but fouled out when it mattered most. Could have lost the 3 votes with 8 seconds left on the clock, Aggy fouled out on Tau to only bring him to the line and slot the winning points.

2. Shaun McArthur (KYN) 24 points, 9 rebounds
Someone had to lift in the final term and McArthur just did that with 5 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Defensively was good in stopping Trimailovas from scoring but failed to stop his impact from dishing out the ball to the big men.

1.Duong Ton (KYN) 18 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists
Had a great game but 5 turnovers from a point guard is a no no. Played well in the final quarter with 6 points, 2 steals and 2 turnovers. Similar to McArthur, defensively he was able to stop his opponent from scoring but allowed too much freedom with the passing.

Whitebeard defeated Black Label Society (78-59)
Grgur MIA meant that the chances of Whitebeards upsetting the Society was much higher. The game was played with a very defensive mind set with certain periods where neither side could find the basket. In the end, the Whitebeards triumphed with turnovers playing a major role 17-6 in Whitebeards favour.

3. Joachim Calzado (WB) 13 points, 4 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 blocks
Calzado was probably what tipped the game in the Whitebeards favour. He controlled the game with his passing as well as defensively stopping his direct opponents from having too much impact on the scoreboard or passing. General shooting may have been poor but shot from the line accurately 11-12.

2. Tommaso Rusconi (WB) 20 points, 17 rebounds, 3 assists
The Italian played a fantastic game. Scoring, rebounding and defending without too much issues against the Frenchman Borrel.

1. Jose Garza (BLS) 21 points, 13 rebounds
Tried to keep the team in the game. Other than his horrendous control of the ball giving away 7 turnovers, he played a good game.

Week 3 Part 2

Pancakes with Jam and Cream defeated Zazzocalypse (121-80)
Pancakes had little trouble overcoming Zazzocalypse as they comfortably ran out the game.

3. Plinio Couto Costa (PAN) 29 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists
Not much to say besides he was sensational all night.

2. Roman Jaanus (PAN) 32 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals
He and Couto led the way with the scoring for the Pancakes and dominated the game without much problems.

3. Josh Dowd (PAN) 13 points, 6 assists, 3 steals
Rested in the final quarter when the game was well and truly over. Statistically nothing spectacular but reduced the impact of Svorinic.

Monkey Business defeated Cowboys From Hell (107-89)
As usual, the team effort from the Monkeys was able to overcome the Cowboys with little trouble for the night. After a blistering second quarter, the Monkeys were able to rotate their team to victory.

3. Gabriele Messineo (MON) 20 points, 6 rebounds
Messineo was fantastic in defence, his direct opponent Villain scored an appalling 4-18 for the night.

2. Feyzullah Percin (CFH) 27 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists
Percin tried to keep the Cowboys in the game with his all round effort but some of his team mates failed to pull their weight. Anymore than his 4 turnovers and he may have lost the 2 votes.

1. Zoltan Bui (MON) 27 points, 4 assists
Wanted to give Patziaras a point but difficult to slot the big man in with most of the impact coming from the guards. Not much to say about Bui besides he led the Monkeys with the scoring.

Week 3 Part 3

Baxter Bogans defeated SmeltzTroopers (114-56)
The Bogans farted and burped their way to victory as the stench was too great for the SmeltzTroopers to handle!

3. Donats Lopins (BAX) 23 points, 12 assists
They call him “Donuts” in Boganland and he show the SmeltzTroopers exactly what he wasn't, a lazy Bogan. Instead he shut down his direct opponent to a donut score.

2. Durk Renaud (BAX) 20 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists
Fantastic in defence as his direct opponent shot a poor 6-22 and had 4 turnovers.

1. Kalle De Mann (BAX) 16 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists
The big Smeltz ain't going to get votes with his lazy 20 points and 15 boards. Kalle was the man as he defensively prevented Tily from having impact on the scoreboard. Weichhaus unlucky not to get a vote for his sound effort against Bustos

Bell Park SuperCats defeated Koopasaurus (102-90)
Finally the Guppies number 1 recruit was able to get the W on the board against the Koops Troops. Slowly grinding the Koopasaurus in the first half, the Supercats were let loose in the third term as they scratched and ripped the Koops Troops apart.

3. Ziedonis Kapracis (BEL) 20 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 steals
Kapracis was everywhere. He took on Rooney and was too hot for him to handle. Turnovers may have been the only blip for the night otherwise he was brilliant in offence and defence.

2. Irwin Velasco (BEL) 19 points, 5 assists
Velasco had a solid game. Defence was what got him the 2 votes. He made Beltrame struggle to shoot in general play with only shooting 3-13 but the biggest impact came from the turnovers with Beltrame giving the ball away to the opposition 8 times.

1. Ozturk Alkan (KOO) 30 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks
Leading scorer for the game but the choice of zoning meant that Alkan had to do more work defensively against the bigs and was unable to stop Yao Zhong who scored an accurate 21 points.

Week 4 - Game 1

Baxter Bogans 77 d Pancakes with Jam and Cream 74

This was expected to be one of the games of the round and it certainly didn't disappoint with the Bogans coming from behind in the last to steal a 3 point victory.

3 votes Gianni Castaldo (Bax) 28pts (13-23) 17reb
Castaldo maintains his fine form from last season with a clear MVP performance in tonights game. Top scorer, equal top rebounder, good defensive effort, Castaldo continues to lead the way for the Bogans.

2 votes I Weichhaus (Bax) 17pts (6-10) 17reb

While the 7 turnovers were ugly, a 17/17 boxscore with a block and 2 steals thrown in for good measure certainly isn’t. An excellent foil for PF Castaldo, Weichhaus controlled the paint and kept the Pancakes guessing as to who was getting the ball inside all night.

1 Vote M Kuman (Pan) 21pts 16reb

While beaten by Weichhaus on the night, Kuman was Pancakes best player while valiantly trying to defend against the onslaught from Castaldo and Weichhaus all night.

Week 4

Zazzocalypse lost to Lewisham Wombats 74 - 100

The result was predictable, wombats 740k roster against Zazz'a 430k roster. Wombats looking to take the top spot in the big8 in the ABBL, while Zazz look likely to get 7th.

3 votes A. Panagiotopoulos (LEW) 26 pts, 20 rebs.
Aggy was grabbing every reb while he was on the court and recorded a 20/20. So he was definitely the standout player.

2 votes A. Trimailovas (LEW) - 20 pts, 9-10 free throws.
Trimailovas was sharp from the charity line and did what was needed at the SG position to get the job done.

1 vote J. Goodall (LEW) - 20 pts, 10-16 FG.
Scored 20 points with solid numbers across the board.

Bell Park SuperCats lost to Monkey Business 98 - 110

Very evenly matched game. It was a game that both teams could win but Monkeybiz raced off the blocks and never looked back. Expect both teams to do well through out the season.

3 votes M. Manara (MON) - 24 pts, 10 rebs, 7 ast.
This veteran SF went head to head with superstar and USA NT player Velasco, and did a good job at it. Big pat on the back for nearly getting a triple double as well.

2 votes S. Deguang (MON) - 22 pts, 9 rebs, 3-4 threes.
Created a lot of miss matches for his counterpart laregely due to the offensive tactic being played. Also logged in 3 treys which is quite impressive for a bigman.

1 votes A. García Ortiz (PBS) - 30 pts, 17 rebs, 2 blks
Came up with big numbers for a bigman. He kept his side in it on the offensive end. Also did a great job on the defensive rebounds but lacked the versatility to stop the opposing PF from outside jumpers.

Cowboys From Hell lost to Kynlala Knights 80 - 117

Kynlala knights has blossomed into an elite ABBL team and the Cowboys were not match let alone the majority of the other ABBL teams. Even without significant contributions from NT guard McArthur, Kynlala came away with a massive win.

3 vote D. Tôn (KYN) - 34 pts, 14 ast, 6 rebs.
Princeton seems to be a good offensive tactic for this young aussie point guard. Big offensive and defensive numbers from this thriving guard.

2 votes F. Carrubba (KYN) - 43 pts, 4 ast, 6 rebs.
Gi-normous 43 points set the tone for the game. Very solid on the other stats as well.

1 vote T. Vedel - 12 pts, 14 rebs, 5-6 FG.
Was hard to determine who the 1 point went to, but it went to Vedel for his efficiency.

Whitebeard smashed SmeltzTroopers 117 - 48 Not much to be said here but Smelts Smelts Smelts Smelts...

3 votes J. Calzado (WB)
2 votes A. Asvestas (WB)
1 vote J. Feliciano (WB)

Black Label Society narrowly defeated Koopasaurus 85 - 83

Epic game that went down the the wire. BLS was missing Fatur but his will to win was not missing at all. Local hero Wazza Kennerley nearly pulled off another last ditched effort to snatch a win but Gary Howorth put a stop to that.

3 votes G. Howorth (BLS) - 26 pts, 11-21 FG.
Came up with the goods in the final moments of the game and even put up outstanding numbers in the crucial 4th quarter to keep Koops at bay.

2 votes W. Kennerley (KOO) - 22 pts, 4 ast, 8 rebs.
Kept his side it in and was highly efficient with a +10 differential in the losing team.

1 vote J. Garza (BLS) - 11 pts, 22 rebs.
Single handedly took on two 200k salary centers and still out performed them on the defensive end. Impressive. This guy is an ironman!

Fishbowl West MVP Season 5

Week Five Part One

Baxter Bogans vs. Lewisham Wombats 84 - 107

In this game of two of the top teams in the entire nation the constantly impressibe Bogans took on the struggling Wombats who had managed just one win so far this season as they go through a transition of sorts. However looking at this match you wouldn't think so with the Wombats having a great shooting night and controling the rebounds 42 to a very low 33. Any time you can shoot more than 50% against an ABBL team things are going well.

3 Aggelos Panagiotopoulos Lewisham Wombats 30 PTS 13 REB 16.5 rating. Aggie is one of the dominant big men in the competition and his very impressive 15/19 shooting got him the three votes here.

2 Algirdas Trimailovas Lewisham Wombats 28 PTS 5 REB 5 AST 17.0 rating. The points are great, the rating is amazing for a guard but keeping his man to just 2 points on 1/10 shooting sealed the deal for Trim-lover.

1 Durk Renaud Baxter Bogans 33 PTS. Former #16 draft pick for the Bogans rewarded his team for their loyalty with a game high score but lacked the all around contributions of Aggie and Trim-lover.

Whitebeard vs. Pancakes with Jam and Cream 88 - 79

Am I the only person who is surprised how dominant Whitebeard has been this season? I don't know if all the other ABBL teams are just patiently waiting for WA IS A DUMP to run out of money (and then correctly predict the stock market crash again) and so are holding onto their reserves but it seems like all the "unbeatable" teams are getting beaten one at a time. I would love to see Whitebeard sailing into the finals (only to be beaten by a Calamari like the Bogans or Knights naturally). As for the actual game we all know look inside > motion and yet again the bearded pirates were shooting at rates of 8/10 while Creamers like PCC could only manage 5/16.

3 José Forastero Whitebeard 21 PTS 14 REB. Great stats including the game high score but it was the effeciency of scoring 8/10 that really got the judges attention.

2 Werner Efinger Pancakes with Jam and Cream 19 PTS 7/11 FGS 16.5 rating. In only 18 minutes he was the top scorer for the Pancakes and gave them the spark they needed in this game and was far more effective than the starter. They were actually winning during the time he was on the court. Currently for sale can you believe that this long time ABBL player has just prominent ID?

1 Tommaso Rusconi Whitebeard 20 PTS 15 REB 5 AST. Perhaps this is a bias of mine but I love big men that can pass the rock so getting a match equal high from the PF position has me impressed.

Kynlala Knights vs. Zazzocalypse 100 - 79

Is Zazz tanking or not? It kind of looks like she has one foot in each pool. Perhaps she is aware of the giant footsteps of the Smeltztroopers just behind her banking $300,000 + a week, with millions in the bank and wondering if they can make a late charge and knock her out. Either way she was simply no match for the Knights who's all Australian rep team is currently top in the Big 8 in the ABBL. This was a spanking and I am risking the ire of the purists by daring to give 1 point to Zazz.

3 Shaun McArthur Kynlala Knights 22 PTS 8 AST 6 REB 16.5 rating. This is now firmly his team and this outstanding performance was only soured by the fact that he fouled out.

2 Eugenio Dell'Asta Kynlala Knights 22 PTS 11 REB 5 AST. It used to be his team but now he is second fiddle, or even third. A brilliant effort although the 5 turnovers were a little sloppy.

1 Tonko Švorinic Zazzocalypse 26 PTS. Here comes the abuse but Tonko did top score and was efficient even if he was totally unable to stop McArthur.
