It’s playoff/play down time!

BC Zalgiris vs Reds BC
4-time EBBL champions BC Zalgiris have made an instant impact on their return to the EBBL and found themselves top of the big 8 conference with a 19-3 record. They face off against Reds BC in the first playoff round. Zalgiris won both regular season matchups by a combined 36points and will be confident in making it 3 wins from 3.

BC Bloosa vs MexicanTaxiDriver
Bc Bloosa and MexicanTaxiDriver enter the playoffs in opposite veins of form. BC Bloosa are on a 6 game winning streak heading into the playoffs, whereas MTD have lost 4 of their last 6 games, including a 22 point loss to BC Bloosa.

Team Nook vs Isca Centurians
The two most recent cup winners face off in the first round of the playoffs. Team Nook finished the season with an EBBL leading 20-2 record to give them home court advantage for the playoffs but will be without former MVP Lazar Glavonjic due to injury. Isca will be looking to their NT big 3 to add more success to their maiden cup winning season.

Bromley-By-Bow vs Aminu
Bromley-By-Bow will fancy themselves for a strong playoff run given Nook’s injury but will first have to get through Aminu who have a recent 22-point win over Bromley. This has the makings of an excellent contest with two strong teams battling it out.

Arsenal 98 vs Nobiles Slough
Arsenal 98 ended with a respectable 11-11 record but in a tightly contested big 8 conference fell short of making the playoffs and has to battle the 6-16 Nobiles Slough for EBBL survival.

Porzigod vs Mortal Wombats
Reigning EBBL champions Mortal Wobmats find themselves in danger of relegation following the sale of some key players from their championship run. They face an away series vs Porzigod who spent most of the season in the playoff spots before selling key players and falling down the standings.

Gophers vs Gauson
Two teams battling for survival with a 7-15 record would seem unlikely in the 5v7 matchup, but it doesn’t look like it will be closely contested. Gauson has sold most of their players and currently find themselves with only 5 players on their books. Barring any late purchases from Gauson it looks like Gophers will be retaining their EBBL status.

Here’s the standings for the final promotion spot from division 2:
Lancaster City 22-0 +671 (d2.2)
Alaus Putytes 21-1 +905 (d2.3)
Durham Wasps 20-2 +758 (d2.2)
MILF Hunters 20-2 +501 (d2.1)
Los Mikitos 19-3 +604 (d2.3)
Bournemouth Drunkers 19-3 +422 (d2.1)
BlackRockWhales 18-4 +610 (d2.4)
Cramlington Showboaters 18-4 +511 (d2.4)

Looks like the favourites for that final promotion spot will be the loser of the D2.2 playoffs between Lancaster City and Durham Wasps, but it is Lancaster who have secured guaranteed promotion to the EBBL for next season

(Yep this is a bit late!)

The playoffs and relegation series’s began on Tuesday with many interesting ties. Here’s what went down.

BC Zalgiris vs Reds BC
Comfortable 113-67 win for the 4-time EBBL champion BC Zalgiris. Park led the way with 36 points for Zalgiris, with Ka Lun adding 31 more to combine to match Reds BC total score.

BC Bloosa vs MexicanTaxiDriver
The solid form of BC Bloosa continued as they beat MexicanTaxiDriver 93-83 behind 29 points from Zysko. All 5 of MTD’s starters scored in double figures, but it was the 3-point shooting of Bloosa that was enough to get the win.

As expected, BC Zalgiris advanced and will host BC Bloosa in the conference finals.

Team Nook vs Isca Centurians
Team Nook’s quest for another EBBL title almost fell apart as they were already short-handed with Glavonjic being injured but then also lost Georgas in the 2nd quarter of this game. But they managed to battle through to a 76-68 win with Vanhanen scoring an efficient 22 points for Nook. NT star Kemp had a game high 29 for Isca but only 29 FG% wasn’t going to get the job done.

Bromley-By-Bow vs Aminu
41 points from Ce wasn’t enough for BBB as their season ended at the hands of Aminu 103-97. BBB’s poor FT shooting in game likely cost them the game, but Aminu also had too many threats for them to contain.

Top seed Nook will have Glavonjic for the next round against Aminu, although his GS will be affected. That could be an opportunity for Aminu to capitalise on.

Arsenal 98 vs Nobiles Slough
34 points from Gallagher led Arsenal 98 to a game 1 in their relegation series against Nobiles Slough. They take 1 step in their quest for survival.

Porzigod vs Mortal Wombats
Porzigod appear to have given up on their season as they only fielded 4 players against Mortal Wombats in game 1. The Wombats didn’t hold back as they won 128-58 and dominated in all aspects of the game.

Gophers vs Gauson
17 3-pointers and 57% shooting for Gophers against a depleted Gauson team as they win 153-55 in game 1. Doesn’t look like Gauson will be putting up much of a fight here.

Conference finals and crucial game 2s! Turns out the games weren’t as exciting as it sounds…

BC Zalgiris vs BC Bloosa
Once again Zalgiris dominated on the defensive end as they held Bloosa to only 67 points in a 39 point win. They were also very efficient on the offensive end with a 57 FG%. Zalgiris move on the finals in their first season back in the EBBL.

Team Nook vs Aminu
Nook were boosted by the return of Glavonjic for their conference final matchup with Aminu. The top seeds Nook dominated from the start and didn’t look back as they went on to win 97-83 despite having their full bench unit out for the 4th quarter. They head in to the finals looking for their 2nd EBBL title.

Team Nook will host BC Zalgiris in the finals in what is anticipated to be one of the closest finals in recent seasons. Nook did win the sole matchup between the sides this season but both teams have made roster changes since then. Game 1 is on Tuesday.

Arsenal 98 vs Nobiles Slough
36 points in 26 minutes for Bruand off the bench secured Arsenal 98’s EBBL status for next season as they dispatched of Nobiles Slough in 2 games.

Porzigod vs Mortal Wombats
Mortal Wombats also secured their EBBL status with a 70 point win over Porzigod. Due to Porzigod selling most of their team, this series was never in doubt for the Wombats.

Gophers vs Gauson
Despite their best efforts to lose game 2, Gophers managed to beat Gauson’s 3-man lineup by 2 points the secure their EBBL safety.

Nobiles Slough, Porzigod and Gauson are all relegated along with Borac Basket and London Daredevils

In division 2, both top seeds in D2.1 lost their conference finals, meaning either North London United or Detroit Pistons II will gain an unlikely promotion to the top flight.

In the other 3 leagues the top seeds of each conference will battle it out. This means that the final promotion spot will go to either Lancaster City, Alaus Putytes or Durham Wasps. Lancaster and Durham face each other, so assuming Alaus win their series both D2.2 finalists will promote.

Play-off revenue is split 50/50 (so home/away doesn't matter) and you would have had to pay salaries this week if you went to game 3. Usually in the relegation game it makes sense to avoid game 3 if possible, so it probably worked out better for you this way

I'm happy with this season, we gave arrows a decent game. Looking forward to seeing the top two teams battle it out now!

Sorry, I tried my best. Old and expensive roster, it was time to rebuild in order to try and bounce back to EBBL. Division II is super tedious, I cannot wait to be back! Good luck to all!
