The only way to gaurantee no substitutes is to look at the top and reduce your selected players to only your five starters. Remove everyone else to the right hand column.
Even if you leave the slots blank, the in game coach will substitute someone during your winning blowout. I use this during scrimmages, but I haven't tried it in regular season games.
Yes you're right. Leave no players available to come off the bench.
During a blowout the coach always wants to substitute starters out , some fairness I guess..

To guarantee that a player plays 48 minutes at a position, normally you just need to set him at starter, backup, and reserve. However, if you are winning by 20+ points in the fourth quarter, the coach will try to take every starter out of the game. To prevent this, you should avoid dressing any players who aren't being used as a starter or a backup.

For example, if you are forcing 48 minutes at one position, it is still ok to use 9 players. If you are forcing 48 minutes at two positions, you can use 8 players.

That is fine. If you only dress 8 players, and set your lineup correctly, then your 2 trainees will be forced to play 48 minutes even if you are winning in a blowout (unless, of course, they foul out or are injured).
