At what level does a player need to be to block a significant number of shots? My starting center is proficient, plays 32 min/game, and only blocks 0.5 per game. Seems like training for this skill is kind of a waste, if you have to be well above proficient to get a significant number. Is it a waste of time?

His inside defense is prominent, and I usually play man to man defense.

It's probably got something to do with the fact that you're on a higher division with better players playing against you. I'm in Div V and I have a guard with respectable SB. He blocks 1.5 a game and sometimes gets 4-5 in a game.

Well, I am in a fantastic Div III league where my team is very overmatched. However, the past two seasons they were in Div IV where they dominated. In those seasons, my center averaged only 0.6 and 0.7 blocks/game. My best shot-blocker is my PF with only average inside defense and average shot blocking. Blocked shots seem to me to be random events that don't have much to do with player skills. That is why I am questioning the wisdom of spending any time on additional training. Seems like the training time would be better spent on other skills.

i remember reading not long ago that shotblocking does not just block the shot it also makes the shooter alter his shot making it less likely to go in. thus lowering the other teams shot %.
while your player may not be getting alot of blocks i bet his altering alot of shots.
