My starting PG for the entire season, Edward Randle, has had his Best Position changed from PG to a SF. I had just popped on Jump Shot for 4 players, 1 other PG and 2 SG's, and have noticed the change. Im hoping that this is a bug and Edward Randle's best position will be changed back to PG.

It is not a bug.

The Best Position will change depending on the player's mix of skills.

Furthermore, the Best Position has zero effect on how the player plays.

You can safely ignore it and play him as you wish.

Then I'm not to sure why having the players Best Position change would even bother to happen in the first place. All it does is effect the Roster sorting option, so that i cant see all the players that i want to play as a PG together, though this is just an inconvience. Possibly to let a manager know what positions this player could play if he so chooses?

With regards to Training. I assume that a player, regardless of what his best position is, will train, if he plays in the positions selected that week to train. For example, if training Jump Shot and having selected PG/SG to be the only ones to train that week, if I used a player whose Best Position was a SF, but played him as a PG for the week, that he would gain training during the week.

So, in the case of Edward Randle. His training will not be effected by his Best Position. If he plays at the PG postion and that has been selected as one of the positons to be trained, he will Train. Regardless of his position.

I'm just confirming to make sure that my assumption is correct as it effects Edward Randle's Best Position change.

Not entirely true. If you scout your opponents well, a change in one of his players' Best Position could tell you how that player is being trained.

Nothing for a player is affected by what Best Position he has other than the roster sorting option.

He could be listed as Janitor and he'll still train and perform as he would with any other BP.

A lot of successful users track their players using a spreadsheet or other data-manipulating program. You may want to look into doing so.

I've also thought of another way how training can change the Best Position of a player doesn't make much sense. What if this were to happen to a player before the All-star break. He could have been an All-Star capable player for his original position, but then not because of the position change. Of course this depends on the other teams and players in the league but I'm willing to wager a guess that the player would not make the All-star game as a PG, even though he played nearly all the games as a PG. So in the case of Edward Randle, if this happened before the All-Star break, and his Best Position was changed from a PG to a SF, he wouldn't have a chance to make the All-star team as a PG. Though he had been playing as a PG up until the All-star game. This really would not make any sense obviously.

the position that is listed next to the player really is not used in ANY of the logic of the game.... all star voting is done based upon the minutes played at a position on the court, not what the suggested position is.

we don't see why we should lock players into being a SF or a PF or whatnot, as certain players can play multiple positions based upon their skill.. adding in such a constraint would unneccesarily reduce a users ability to interpret a players skill the way he or she wants. Now that beings said we thought it prudent to help users get a sense of what sort of player a guy was just by glancing at one thing rather than analyzing all the ratings, so we made this suggested position a function of his ratings. when his ratings change, the suggested position changes, but it doesn't have any bearing on anything other than what the suggested position is listed as.

the title of the thread i think highlights the problem.. we intended this to be SUGGESTED position, not BEST position.

of course reading what is written in the rules i come to discover this misunderstanding is entirely our fault as it says "best" position there. we will get that fixed.

This might be possible if you really kept an eye on the team. In this case, Edward Randle's position was changed from a PG to a SF. I was training Jump Shot for PG/SG. Jump Shot would be one of the last things I would have guessed that Edward Randle's position change was due to.

There might be better examples, but guessing what you opponent is training due to his Best Position change would be a fluke in my opinion. Better to check the players stats, game by game, to see if the player has been more productive in a certain area. But who knows really....

following on from a comment i made on another thread this is yet another penalty for training a player out of his natural position.... he is less likely to make the all star team.....

the sooner training is opened up to include more permutations the better... you can then play cup games as you wish etc etc...
