Looking at both my own team and many other players game ratings on the transfer list I am at a loss to explain player ratings for individual games. Sometimes my own starter players (eg. shooting guard scoring 36) have great games but end up with ratings considerably lower than a backup player who only plays 10 minutes and basically does nothing. Here is a sample from the tl right now
MIN FG 3FG FT OR TR AST TO STL BLK PF PTS Rating
35 0-10 0-2 2-4 2 8 5 5 1 0 0 2 7.5

how does this shooting guard get a 7.5 rating (good for his league) with 0-10 shooting and 5 turnovers ???

In other words how do player game ratings work ?

player ratings are the quality of the player into that game so his skills(stamina!), your enthusiam will give him a good/bad rating and not the luck/bad luck he had in scoring point or getting a steal(which depends on random factors and the opposing team)

Thank you as always CrazyEye for your post but I am still unsure what if anything the ratings mean in terms of evaluating a player for say purchase or for a starting position on your team. I guess my confusion stems from looking at the player rating within a single game compared to other of my players within that game so enthusiasm should not play a role in relative terms. In evaluating the play from a single game I always have a problem understanding how some of the players that have great games have such low ratings. As always thanks again.

i think the most intresting think, in the "boxscore" of a player for purchase is the average number of fouls, to avoid buying a physical player who always brings you in foul trouble.

For the rest i would go for player skills, with a bit experience you get something german would call "bauchgefühl" but i think we could also use the english(or female) intuition
