Hi I'm a new player, I'm trying to get suggestions for a good training rotation for guards - I've decided to train small and have (or will have) 4 or 5 18-19 yr olds as potential trainees.

I'm thinking a 4 week rotation of Passing, Pressure, One on One and Outside Shooting. Does this sound sensible? am I missing anything?

Is there a well established plan for rotating the player minutes? ie X starts in game 1 and backup in game 2, Y backup in game 1 and starts game 2 etc. I guess I need a scrimmage every week to get a fifth player the right number of minutes don't I.

Thanks in advance,

One on One training is good for SF in my opinion. I wouldn't bother training G in that. Go with Handling instead. Also you should probably throw in some JS training as well.

Thanks, looked at some other posts too and think I'll try to add some extra passing into the rotation somewhere too.

Don't forget that it normally takes more than one week of training to pop skills, but I think you have a good routine to repeat along the season. I'm also training G's and have a similar sequence: outside shooting, outside def, outside def, jump shot, handling, passing, etc. Should also take into account if your best prospects are PG's or SG's I guess

JS or JR shouldn't be trained when guys are 18-20, cos' if u investigate deeper in the forums, you'll find they are increased the same speed no matter if the player is 18 or 23. So it's better to train different characteristics when players are young...

One on One is very important for guards if you train it at the guard position it trains JS very quickly. It has been used to train a lot of the current U21 stars and should not be overlooked.

I feel a lot of teams overlook JR and only train JS. JR is now more important in this new game engine. It is also important to consider if they will be single position training or dual. If they will be single position JR trains JS almost as fast as JS does with a greater increase in JR.

You are absolutely flat out wrong. You know what trains JS best. No it's not one on one. It's.. JS. Trains JR too by the way ;) I respect the value of one on one for SF, SG/SF and SF/PF, but for pure guards it's less than useful. It's harmful in that it takes away from your ability to ad more JS and JR training later on by adding unnecessary salary and potentialy even causing your player to cap before he is complete. Handling on the other hand trains OD and still gives you 80% training in driving.

It depends on how competitive you want to be early, but I prefer to split it in half. Half now and half later. The main reason is the cost, though. The reason you stated I don't think is correct. Training speed slows down with equal speed for all skills. I have never heard anything to the contrary before.

I am really torn on this matter. Many of the elite team feel that JR is not important. Infact one of the best teams in all of BB will not train it past proficient. I think it is still a very important skill but question how important it really is.

As far as driving goes, it too is quite controversial. My belief is that alot of the skills you train depend on the long term overall look of your team. If you plan on being a team that pounds the bal inside I would say that passing and driving are huge skills to have. If you want to be a team that plays with lots of motion and shoots the ball from the perimeter driving is a bit less important imo.

For a new player I would strongly suggest balance. Try to build all round balanced players. It ensures that your players keep relatively low salaries and you will soon find that they are out performing guys with double or triple there wages.
