Any tips on what defence to play? I've been playing Zone 3 - 2 so far and it's been going okay but just wondering what kind of stats are required for different defences?

I.e. How do I know what the best defence is for my players?

Cheers

it depends more on what you think the opponent will play in offense than what your players are like.
by playing 3-2 all the time you're leaving your inside vulnerable to a team that has decent big players and by playing look inside he would have a big advantage.

it's ok to compensate your weaknesses by playing zones, but by playing the same all the time your opponents might take advantage of it.

but now that I took a look at your games, I don't think it makes much difference, since when playing 3-2 both of your defs are equally awful (and I mean that as a rating )

you should strive to have equally good defense outside and inside so that with man to man they are balanced and then play zones when you're sure that your opponent will play an outside or inside tactic, and play m2m when you think he'll play base offense or push the ball.

So I should only play Man to Man if they are playing base offence or push the ball? How come? And so the rest of the time I should play zone? But I should increase my inside and outside defence? Would a 2 - 3 zone be better than a 3 - 2 zone against many offences?

Cheers

well in theory I think m2m should be the best for ptb and base since it doesn't decrease either zone or rebounding.
but if your big player have better defense than your small ones, by all means play 3-2, it served you pretty well so far.

what I was trying to say is that you should balance the defenses, ad example I can get up to strong medium for both defs with m2m in PL games, a bit lower in league because I play mostly take it easy. So then by shifting to a zone I can increase them depending on what I think the opponent will play.

ah okay, thanks!

The reason I've been playing zone 3 - 2 so far is that I figure if I can keep them out of the key area then they are forced to take longer shots which they are more likely to miss. And I have been reluctant to play Man to Man purely because I think Man to Man generally needs a high level of stamina to be effective. Is that right?

Cheers

apart from full court press I don't think any other defense is influenced by stamina in any special way, apart from the general decrease of player performance that is in function of the stamina.
I always play m2m unless I have a really hard game where I have to try and guess the opponents attack tactic to give me an edge in a game I'd otherwise probably loose.
And from following the croatian top league, the national teams and BBB, I notice that most top managers play m2m more often than other tactics.
As I said, balance is the key

no problem
after the game you'll see which defense is weaker and should be trained or strengthened by acquisition of new players

Ive only been playing 3 weeks now, but the first thing I did was sell/fire all my players and buy 10 young trainees (which turned out to be a mistake lol). But over the last few days I've been buying/selling and now only have 6 trainees and 4 decent big guys, so the stats from my last match aren't exactly going to be the same as my next match which makes it a bit harder to read lol.

Well only time will tell :)
Thanks!

6 trainees is also a bit too much
5 would be ideal
with 6 it's hard to have all of them get 48 minutes which is a must if you want the to get full training
that's of course if you train two positions, which is kinda ideal if you're training them for just your team.
