This is my first season and I've run into this issue many times already. I'll be interested in a player I believe can make my team better right away and will end up in a bidding war that I almost always lose. That part is fine, but then I'll bookmark the player and will notice that 1, 2 and 3 weeks later that the team buying the player for $200K-$800K doesn't even use him or uses him so little that it's obvious that they are not an important part of their team and not playing enough to train.

I understand that some teams like to arbitrage players, and that would explain trying to flip good bargains. But this I cannot understand. The purchase of good players at high cost and then just frozen on their rosters while not being used or being relisted. What is going on here?

you know, in this game, a lot of managers are traders, and try to gain money with day trading.Just try to find another player for you team on the TL.

I understand that. But for example, I wanted to buy this American 18 year old who was well developed with a salary of $5,500 and he ended up selling for about $400K. That buyer does not use him at all and did not relist him. Is it more strategic to relist him at the end of the season rather than immediately (considering he's obviously not being trained)?

A player who costs around 200-800k might be really good for a young team like yours, but you have to understand that those players might be just good enough benchwarmers for teams in higher divisions who operate on much higher budgets. I bought a player this season for 600k to play him in one game just to keep the game shape of one of my most important players at a high level - sold him right after that...

Keep spirits high, you might find a good addition soon enough as there are many players availiable that you can afford and that might help you a lot!

I don't really know what a viable solution to this problem would be, or even if it's really a problem.

As has been pointed out, for a lot of top teams (particularly if they're still in the cup) spending 800k on a player who will be a back up one game a week makes sense whereas that same player might be the star of a d5 team. The example of the 18 y/o you gave is a bid odd, but I am sure that when the manager bought him he fit into his plans.

Target players you can afford. It really doesn't matter why you lose the bid war as long as you lost. Try buying young players when there's more on the market and buy older players if you're not looking to train them.
You may also want to consider shopping add odd times of the day.

Thanks. All very helpful advice. I've been doing a little of that already. Just sad to lose out on a good player to someone who doesn't even use him. And, though I've made plenty of mistakes on decisions of players on the TL, I generally target young players who I envision training, which is why it seems odd to me that another team gets him and then sits on them. But I guess everyone has their own reasons, and everyone can make mistakes as to bidding on a player that they don't actually need and don't end up using.

I agree, it's not a problem. Just wondering why it happens. Maybe more established teams just have so much more money that buying a $500K player and not using him at all isn't that big a deal. For my team, it takes half a season to accumulate that much money and spending it on a player that I wouldn't use seems crazy.

If you stick with the game, your perspectives will change -- I remember asking on these boards something to the effect "how can any player be worth $25,000 a week?" Now I am playing against teams who have such players as sixth men.

One little thing I found useful at your stage -- I am absolutely convinced a lot of people overpay for potential. When you search for players, cap your search at "starter" (or lower) -- a "6th man" potential, fully trained, will still be a formidable div. v player, and very useful at div. iv. That is, if you are interested in training (and keeping) a player. If you need immediate help, go for age -- someone who is their upper 20s still has four or more good seasons left -- but at the level you bought him at. You can not anticipate any training pops, but again, I found the market underpriced such players and they suited my needs wonderfully when I was first starting out.

Good luck.
