Hello. I searched for the cause of personal fouls, but can't find any indication of what causes them. I have a player that has now fouled out twice within the past few weeks. What kind of factors determine this and is there a way to train him so he doesn't foul so much? Thanks!

Surely his defense, depending on his position. For example, if is a PG outside, if is a C inside. Also his stamina. And finally, many people believe that one other factor (and maybe the biggest) is personality. That means that one player makes a lot of fouls, even in the case he has good level of defense and stamina because is in his character. So when you want to buy a player and you see in his history that makes many fouls in almost every match, just don't buy him.

I hope I was clear :-)

All players have a hidden aggression factor. But, in general, better defense will help a lot. Just train defense, or get rid of him if you must. I have one such player, and I manage just fine. But, the previous owner sold him shortly after he bought him, because he didn't want the headache. I play a very good backup behind mine. And don't try to play him 48 min.

Also his stamina

I don't think that stamina have and effect on players fouls, just low def and his personality.

Really? i thought that as they tire, fouls can become more common, i don't really have any support for this though, just a notion i have, and i'm not sure where it came from :)

Well, stamina effects defense. If you leave a player on the court for too long, his defense suffers, so he could draw more fouls.

But of course, if your opponent has worse stamina than you, there is nothing to worry about. ;-)

I've had two games where one of my positions got a lot of fouls (once at PF and once at PG). Both times the starter and back-up had 3 fouls by half. In the first game I got a lot of fouls in General but only two guys got in trouble. In the second game there were a low number of fouls. None of the guys has foul trouble history which made me think that maybe the strategy or player they were guarding had something to do with it (just theory, no proof). The first time I was running a 3-2 and the second time a 2-3. I thought maybe the first time the guys down low were under pressure due to my emphasis guarding people outside and vice versa the second time. My other thought about it being the guy they were guarding is due to the fact that it happened at just one position both times.

Just a thought

No matter where you go, there you are.
