I know height has an effect on training in that smaller guys train outside skills faster and bigger guys train inside better. But what about something like outside D, will a 5'10 guard learn faster than a 6'5 - 6'6 guard?

But why? All the best defenders in basketball at the guard position are quite tall. MJ was 6'6. Ron Harper was around that. Smaller lighter guys can be easily screened off..

maybe because else it would get to complicated, if you don't want Yao Ming to be the best outside defender.

Speaking of, wouldn't it be nice if players has an 'athleticism' attribute? Yao's too tall and slow. I was thinking of mobile guards, not tall centers.

i think this is to late to introduce, but to be honest if you make this had to introduce strength, speed, leaping, mobility(how you could change your movement) else you had to consider that they are athletic Centers like Howard who are still to slow to guard guards ...And you could make this with Skills, why have a single inside shot did it help that you could dunk when you make a hook shots and what did that have to do with layup. In the end you have something like 1000 Skills, who are still connected with each other.

So i like the actual try, that those are all included in still a bunch of general Skill and your imagination has to do the rest(like good Rebounders are strong and could jump high ...), and if you improve those ability there is also the atheletic training included.

You have a point, but so does the OP. The SF size guys get the shaft in this game sometimes. At least they are cheaper to keep, though :).

Maybe have 2 attributes - strength and speed? A tallish guard like Ron Harper could have some of both but not be as quick as Iverson while someone like Shaq would obviously have high strength but not much speed. So a Harper would use his strength to defend the perimeter better than an Iverson.

It could work..

Dunking, hooks etc can all be classified under inside scoring. But physicality is definitely a dimension that is separate from any of the other attributes players have.

Anyway, I suppose I'll just have to get rid of my 6'6 PG.

sure you get attributes, but with the same arguments you could put him hundreds of attributes - and to be honest it would be pretty complicated to include that with the existing players if you make a new set of attributes.

Its true that those taller guards had good inside defence and that made them better defenders, but they were excellent at pure perimeter defence. They had the instincts to know when to reach for a steal, when to back off, how to stay with a guard who was driving at them, etc. I always thought a guy like Iverson was pretty average as an outside defender compared to those guys. Most importantly they had the strength to push past screens when needed. Defenders need to be strong outside as well as inside.

As far as this game goes, in my last game the 6'6 PG had 3 blocks. I'm not sure if he blocked outside or inside shots though. From your experience in this game, do you think a taller guard defends the perimeter better than a smaller guard (i.e., if they have the same OD skill)?
