So: does rating depend on opponent quality?

Yes. Defensive performance is included in the rating.

this actually highlights one of the things that I find most annoying about the current rating system. because the ratings depend on the opposition, it's basically impossible to compare players or scout other teams.

this is particularlly a problem in BB where multi-skilled players are supposed to be an integral part of the game. for example, if you are thinking about buying a PG, how do you compare a PG who has medicore passing and strong handling to a PG with strong passing and medicore handling (all other skills being equal)? you can't look at rating. further, if the players play in differnet divisions, it makes the ratings even less helpful since one player is playing against strong competition and the other is not.

same types of issues with scouting. how can you tell if the team you are going to play is really better than you? is that new team that promoted really any good?

it would be helpful of BB to have some normalized rating system so that you can make these kinds of comparisions.

Best performance
I thought that the 'Best performance' on players page was taken from league matches only. But am I wrong? Looking at (2418490) he has 40 min. played in a cup-match.

Older than the rest ...

it doesn't make it impossible just really hard. you can't simply look over a team for 1 minute and know exactly what you're facing. it takes time which i like. you have to analyze players against performances against other teams.

the best thing to do under this situation is to look at the offense you prefer to run. offensive tactics that go to the big men you might want better passing and if you want to run the ball then handling might be what you want. it is sort of subjective in what you value most.

you're right about league position. sometimes players in higher leagues are inactive and the players don't receive any training. plus internationally speaking the "exchange rate" is different. a IV league in USA is probably not as good as one in IV Italia since they have a lot more players.

i would just look at player salary and overall performance based on a number of different teams.
