Tonight for my scrimmage, I've had several guys play who I did not set in my scrimmage lineup at all, as starters, backups, or reserves. What gives?

I had two injuries, but shouldn't the game engine use my other backups/reserves before using guys I didn't even choose? Also, who decided what positions they played in, since I didn't choose it?

If it matters, I did SFDC.

when a player gets injured or fouls out, the game engine considers all the 12 players in the bench to take his place.

We already complained a lot about this in the past. Let's hope one day the BB's will change this, like it was suggested before, so that in a position X only the players listed on the DC for that position X can play in it. Another player not listed to that position can only play in it if there is no other player listed for that position X that is able to play.

i.e The game engine should put a guy not listed as SG as SG only if all my listed shooting guards get fouled out or injured.

I agree! And we as the user should be accountable for this, if you set the same guy at tons of positions and he fouls out, that's your problem. But you shouldn't get a bailout from the game engine.

if a player fouls out the GE considers things the same way as it always had. If the starter has fouled out, the backup is dead tired and the 3rd string is playing another position, the GE has to chose someone else....

the problem is i can't build a logical framework which both does the tradeoff of getting tired/ foul situation etc.. which are all fuzzy things and hard set rules PERFECTLY. I think the system as we have it does a pretty good job... since i get both people complaining about the depth chart being obeyed too much (in that the starters get too much time) and complaints that people got PT that shouldn't have.... unless I hear one side making a lot more complaints than I think i'm at a happy medium.

When I think about having a system which only looks at the depth chart, but makes allowances to look off the depth chart in cases of injury etc... i can't see how to frame it nicely considering that you can have people in the depth chart playing other positions as well...

I guess you're right, as long as people know this is how it'll work in the future. So if the depth chart can no longer be followed for whatever reason, does the GE (or my coach) put in the next best guy at the position, or a random player?

the GE has a rating system.. its rates every player based upon a large number of factors which include the players skills, how tired they are, foul situation and the depth chart. Players on the depth chart get increasing larger increases in their rating for being higher on the depth chart. Injury or fouling out obviously takes your rating very very low. The GE will look to the bench and put in the player with the highest rating... if someone is in the game obviously they can't be subbed in. So.... the GE will put in the best person available... usually that someone on the depth chart, since that modifier is so much larger than the rest... but if nobody on the depth chart is available, or if the person on the depth chart is really really bad for some reason (bad in the sense of combined skills, fouls and tiredness) the GE can put in someone else.

The problem with making sure the person on the depth chart is put in NO MATTER WHAT... is that you have to make allowances for the case when there is nobody on the depth chart available, and that gets complicated when you really consider all the cases you can have, especially when considering what to do with other position simultaneously and when players on one depth chart can be playing on another.
