I just did a scouting update for the best Canadian 20 year olds, and thought that I would share some of the general results. Overall, as a group, I would say that the previous 2 draft classes were stronger than this one. Despite this, I'm still hopeful that there will be a solid core in place for the U21 in season 14. The biggest question marks with this group are at PF and PG, but as I'm quickly learning, these positions are typically thin at the U21 level (although our season 13 team is in very good shape at PG). One final note is that many of the best players we have here were saved by HPP early on in season 11, in the weeks following the draft. It looks like these efforts will pay off for us.

Here are some rough prospect rankings, although these lists are just meant to give a general sense of who the top 20 year old Canadians are:

Guard Rankings (PG, SG, Guard-type SFs)

1. Max Torres; (11816530)
2. Philip Yates; (11815964)
3. Francis Paris; (11816600)
4. Calvin Dupré; (11815797)
5. Garfield Bonner; (11815745)
6. Kody Graubins; (11816532)
7. John Satchwell; (12714950)
8. Brent Irizarry; (11816067)
9. Nigel Dumont; (11815421)
10. Ngunda Mou; (11815683)
11. Conor MacSymon; (11817284)

Honourable Mention: Luc Langevin, Stephen McCarthy, Gabriel Sylvestre, Simon Duffy, Jesse Humphries, Jan Holmes, Jonathon Strain, Christian Spencer

C/PF Rankings

1. Vincent Delorimier; (11816850)
2. Vidyacharan Jaiswal; (11816133)
3. Gregg Maisch; (11815840)
4. Pat Clear; (11816555)
5. Dryden Krieg; (11816569)
6. Feeney Cashmore; (11815941)
7. Jean-Charles Dauphinais; (11815776)
8. David Truchon; (11816369)

Honourable Mention: David Metzger, Wilburn Langley, Mathieu Labonté, Pierre-Charles Jutras, Huang Daojiang

Yes, Bowie is one of our stealth 20 year olds. :) He isn't far behind many of the honourable mention guys, and depending on how training goes, could easily climb up the list (although he does have a long way to go to catch up to players like Torres and Yates).

Nope, John Satchwell should have been on the list. I just slotted him in now; he's one of the best PG types that is currently 20 years old.

I really like how these "rankings" have been coming out for the last two seasons. It's another great way for those with younger trainees to stay engaged in the game. Far and away, my favourite part of this game is the player development - I look forward to following various players progress, or, fallback, season to season.

It would be very cool if there were a "Top 10" at each position, for all of Canada. Adjusted year to year, with perhaps an addendum for younger players who may potentially break into the top 10 in later seasons. This would probably take quite a bit of work to start, but maintenance would be relatively easy. I do, however, realize that many managers would not want to give up the tactical advantage of having their players' skills unknown.

A NT general "depth chart" would be cool to have posted on the forums. Lists could be created without revealing the skills of anyone. Rip has provided various versions of this in his writeups over the seasons (most recently in the NT thread), but perhaps things could be highlighted more (maybe a NT depth chart sticky?). I'm not sure whether it would be better to have a main post that is edited/updated over the seasons, or have a series of "training camp" type posts (a new one for each season). In any case, this kind of thing is something that I would enjoy seeing from the next NT manager.

Am setting a scrimmage up for John where we go up against Chuck Rainey and his team to test where John is at in the world, should be quite interesting.

I was jus wondering how far off my guard Winston Hightower is to those mentioned guards.

Sign up for the off site forum and you will have access to builds of NT and U21 players. Once seeing them you can gauge where your guys are at.

Hightower is comparable in overall skill level to the guards that were listed as "honourable mentions" (he got left out mostly due to where I decided to make an arbitrary cutoff, but he could definately be listed there). I see Hightower as a bit of a sleeper at the moment, but depending on how training goes, he could definately pass some guys, and maybe even climb all the way up into that top 10 for next season.
