Hey everyone, I am new to your league but I am used to being in leagues that are very active and have really high participation on their leagues message boards. I noticed that this one is totally dead, so this is my attempt to get things going by going out on a limb and making some predictions.

I owe credit to my buddy abigfishy for the format that I am using for this league analysis, I have shamelessly ripped him off. If I offend anyone or say something stupid, good, come to the boards here and have a say, I would much rather that than a boring silence. Finally once I am done I will send everyone one spam to let them know about these posts, sorry, I hate spam too but this is for the good of the game, more involvement = more fun = more longevity for teams = better teams.

End of part one.

Part Two - this is the history of the teams in the league. History doesn't teach you that much but as the quote about this game goes "it is a marathon, not a sprint" so normally older teams are better. As we can see the Rampaging Marmots are the oldest team in the league, I wonder if I will be mentioning them again? Lots of young teams too and a league average of 9.625 making me as close to average as possible. Nice!

Wins are another matter. Now based on wins I am the worst team in the league and the Massive Ballers are the second best but the division matters a lot. I also think in this league the conference matters a LOT. This is so nice for me, my last league was just like this with one BRUTAL side and one gentle side, it is nice to be on the gentle side. So I rank wins in the Big 8 a lot more than wins in the Great 8 after all if you have 6 games against teams like the Miami Heaters, brisvegas bullets and ballarat vikings how hard is it to get to 10 wins? I am sure that the South Coast Slammers noticed that their 14 wins last season got them 5th in the Big 8 where it would have got them 2nd in the (Not So) Great 8.

So based on this once again Rampaging Marmots are the winners.

Team Started S12 Div Wins
Australia Gangsters 9 III.11 16
Australian Flames 11 IV.3 19
GoldCoastSH 11 III.11 9
Rampaging Marmots 7 III.11 22
South Coast Slammers 8 III.11 14
The Cleveland Sweaty Steamers 9 III.11 17
XBB 9 III.11 15
Young devils 11 III.11 9
Adelaide 36rs 10 III.11 9
Castros Hawks 10 III.11 10
Chelsea Seagulls 10 II.2 6
Flying Ants 11 IV.5 20
Keyser Söze 11 IV.9 19
lakermen 8 III.11 13
Massive Ballers 11 IV.22 21
Pornos Pride 8 III.11 10

Part Three - Top Players now it is impossible for me to really know who are the best players in the league when all their skills are hidden but the rough and ready way is to simply take their salaries. The teams with the biggest payrolls are usually the best teams. It mostly works in the NBA unless you are New York under Isiah Thomas.

Team Best Player Second Third
Australia Gangsters 27 16 11
Australian Flames 24 10 6
GoldCoastSH 13 12 7
Rampaging Marmots 36 18 14
South Coast Slammers 13 11 10
The Cleveland Sweaty Steamers 27 24 20
XBB 20 19 17
Young devils 16 6 5
Adelaide 36rs 8 7 7
Castros Hawks 14 11 8
Chelsea Seagulls 40 23 15
Flying Ants 9 9 8
Keyser Söze 7 6 6
lakermen 20 13 11
Massive Ballers 11 9 8
Pornos Pride 9 6 6

Here there is a massive difference with a few teams having multiple people in double figures while others have none. While I probably win this one you can see that once again the Rampaging Marmots are up there along with The Cleveland Sweaty Steamers, XBB, Australia Gangsters and the lakerman. I note that XBBs 19k man Valiente Viudes was league MVP runner up so he may be worth even more than his salary suggests.

Part Four - Ratings. This is where everyone will probably get really mad but what the heck, take it out on me on the court. Here is simply each team's Australian rank, which I take with a grain of salt, they seem to be far too affected by lucky cup runs and then my special yodabig rank.

Team Oz Rank Yoda Power
Australia Gangsters 143 A
Australian Flames 275 C
GoldCoastSH 305 F
Rampaging Marmots 98 A+
South Coast Slammers 195 B
The Cleveland Sweaty Steamers 141 A
XBB 122 A
Young devils 224 C
Adelaide 36rs 307 F
Castros Hawks 282 F
Chelsea Seagulls 92 A
Flying Ants 227 C
Keyser Söze 301 F
lakermen 184 B
Massive Ballers 264 C
Pornos Pride 246 F

So as you can see, in my opinion the Big 8 is much, much stronger. The team to beat has to be the 44-0 Rampaging Marmots, but any of Australia Gangsters, The Cleveland Sweaty Steamers or XBB can take him down - just like Cleveland did in the playoffs in season 12. If I was GoldCoastSH I would be looking at my games against the Young devils and Australian Flames because it is probably going to be one of them in the automatic relegation zone.

In the Great 8 there seem to be two frontrunners myself, and the lakermen giving the new teams like Flying Ants and Massive Ballers a great shot at making the playoffs.

So for the QFs I predict Rampaging Marmots to not choke again and finally get out of the Big 8 this time over XBB while in the Great 8 it will be Seagull slaying the lakermen to advance to the finals where finally the Marmots make it to division II.

What does everyone else think? You have opinions, most with a lot more background than mine. Lets hear what you have to say!

May the force be with you.

Your predictions look pretty spot on, Marmots over the Seagulls in the final. The Ballers will definitely be looking to take advantage of the weaker Great 8 and make a playoff appearance, though it's hard to see anyone but the Seagulls and the Lakermen being in the Conference final.

My double choke in the first round of the playoffs after going through undefeated has forced a massive reshuffle. Of my 10 players from last season, only 5 remain, and 2 of them are for sale. I have already sold my best player (Steffen Mostbeck, 44K centre). I will not be 22-0 this season - indeed, if I make the playoffs, it will be very surprising. However, I have my eyes on being a better team in the long term - so not this season, maybe not next season, but the season after that, watch out!

And also, as to finally making it to Div II - I have already tasted the heady heights of Div II, but I got demoted after one season ;)

I rather suspect it will be a Seagulls v Sweaty Steamers final, with the Seagulls triumphing in three.

Good luck all!

Also, thanks for starting this thread - this league is quite active in terms of the team participation, but like you said, the forums are totally and completely dead!

Yeah I know how you feel. Depending on who I sell I project to be clearing about 6k a week which is just hilarious after the mound of money that was thrown at me last season. I have a lot of savings and quite a few "disposable assets" who I will sort out in the next week or so, so I am not worried about going broke any time soon.

And I don't know about anyone else, but I am not in the mood for spending a long time with a Cleveland Sweaty Steamer.

I was clearing $20K a week - now I'm clearing $200K a week. Hehe. Should have some good cash by the end of the season!

Wow you really have cleared out your roster! Amazing, I am just way too sentimental and too attached to my guys to do that. I admire you. It had to be done.

In other notes GoldCoastSH just lashed out 900k on
Biser Petrov (2783404) Small Forward
Owner: GoldCoastSH
Weekly salary: $ 23 470
DMI: 66200
Age: 28
Height: 6'2" / 188 cm
Potential: allstar *
Game Shape: respectable

and 100k on
Raúl Verea (5281896) Power Forward
Owner: GoldCoastSH
Weekly salary: $ 6 216
DMI: 14100
Age: 30
Height: 6'8" / 203 cm
Potential: perennial allstar
Game Shape: respectable

This is a major improvement to their roster and now they are looking like a real team in the brutal Big 8. We wish them luck with their new purchases.

I'm sentimental about Sam Clune, he was my first good trainee, and he's a gun player, so I'll never trade him. The rest of the team, they could be traded on a moment's notice, they need to stay on their toes ;)

Well what a spectacular way to bring a 44-0 run to an end.

SF T. Lampiris 23 1 - 6 1 - 4 0 - 0 1 2 2 4 1 0 6 3 1.0 - this may be the worst performance I have ever seen on BB! I'll bet the Young devils were surprised! Well I noticed from the TL that now you have even more money - you are rich.

As for me my finances start to look even worse, a horrid gate reciept has me really scared, check this out:

7/3/2010 League Game against Adelaide 36rs $ 103 804

and now have a look at what I was making

6/12/2010 League Game (Televised) against SJOD $ 244 123

This is worse than when I was in division IV. Ouch! My fans have deserted me! My current projection is now to be making about -$42,000 a week so I need to be winning my cup games just to stay even.

Some of my new players look like they will be having a VERY short tenure on this team.
