This week, the U21 team will be holding a training camp for Season 14. The opening roster will be officially selected at some point on the weekend, before the game on Monday against Panama. An announcement will be made when the selections have been finalized; before that; before that, don't worry too much about players moving on and off the roster.

Invitations have been sent out to the top Canadian 21 year olds (and some 20 year olds), with possible additions still to come:

*=20 year old player

C/PF
- Bryan Bessette: (11815464)
- Feeney Cashmore: (11815941)
- Pat Clear: (11816555)
- Vincent Delorimier: (11816850)
- Germain Demers*: (13233749)
- Vidyacharan Jaiswal: (11816133)
- Mathieu Labonté: (11815388)
- Gregg Maisch: (11815840)
- Glenn Richards*: (13887630)
- David Truchon: (11816369)

SF/Other
- Calvin Dupre: (11815797)
- Ngunda Mou: (11815683)
- Francis Paris: (11816600)

PG/SG
- Timothy Austin*: (13232449)
- Preston Bond: (11816588)
- Garfield Bonner: (11815745)
- Daniel Chrétien*: (13232109)
- Kody Graubins: (11816532)
- Winston Hightower: (12588489)
- Jesse Humphries: (11815441)
- Conor MacSymon: (11817284)
- John Satchwell: (12714950)
- Tiberio Silini: (11816191)
- Max Torres: (11816530)
- Philip Yates: (11815964)

The opening roster for season 14 is likely to be kept small, as 10 players should be a solid number for the first game. Additions will be made as needed throughout the season. Looking at the big man options, a 20 year old named Glenn Richards has been turning heads. He is expected to make the team, along with Vidyacharan Jaiswal. At SF, Calvin Dupre and Francis Paris are clear choices, and have roster spots lined up. In the backcourt, Max Torres, Philip Yates, and John Satchwell are the most highly touted players at the start of training camp. All the other invitees will be battling hard to secure a spot on the roster.

It appears to be a very high quality group of players. Should be an entertaining year for the U21 program once again.

Thanks for another great post Mogul!!

After an intense inter-squad scrimmage on Saturday afternoon, it was time for the U21 management to make the final roster decisions. Several spots were very close calls, but in the end, 10 players were selected to start the season with. It is hoped that these 10 players will form a solid core that will be ready to play all season long. With that said, it is expected that 5 or 6 callups will be made as needed. A couple of these additions could be made very soon, as it is likely that the team will go up to 12 players within a month or so.

Here is the opening roster for the season 14 U21 team:

Pat Clear (11816555)

With the U21 big man situation full of uncertainty at the end of training camp, who better to bring clarity than...that's right....Pat Clear. Drafted as an 18 year old by New Market West Siders, he was quickly transferred to Sweden, where he joined Spångakillarna. As one of the younger developing players on Spångakillarna, Clear will be looking to keep making steady improvements this season, and help out however he can at the National level.

Calvin Dupré (11815797)

Having dreamed of playing for the U21 for many years, few players are as excited to make the team this season as Calvin Dupré. Drafted by McCrushers in season 10, he went on to be well trained for 3 seasons, until finally being sold to Universidad de Cambre late in his age 20 season. While Dupré is still adjusting to life in the Spanish third division, he is well prepared for the Canadian U21 team, and is expected to make his presence felt in many ways this season.

Winston Hightower (12588489)

Hightower was never drafted, but was an original member of Lightning Thunder when the team was created early in season 11. Starting out as an 18 year old with a lot to learn, Hightower was seen as a major project by most scouts, but he was determined to improve quickly. After steady development in some key areas, this 6'6" PG is ready to play a role for the U21, and the sky is the limit for a player of Hightower's potential.

Vidyacharan Jaiswal (11816133)

The first player ever drafted by lincoln high, Jaiswal has been a core member of that team ever since. After being well trained for many seasons, Jaiswal is ready to step in as one of the main bigs for the U21 this season. While recent U21 stars such as Peter Mahmoud and Christopher Moran have left some big shoes to fill, Jaiswal is determined to bring some much needed muscle to the Canadian front line.

Gregg Maisch (11815840)

A 6'2" power forward, Maisch has been told his whole life that he is too small to be an inside player. Determined to prove all those voices wrong, Maisch steadily developed an incredible vertical leap, and the ability to bench press every other player at the U21 training camp. On Saturday afternoon, management and teammates alike were shocking when he pulled everyone aside, and actually did bench press all of the other nearby players. Having been drafted by The Cheetarian as an 18 year old back in season 10, Maisch developed his unique abilities under Cheetarian's watchful eye, and is now looking to make his manager proud on the global stage.

Francis Paris (11816600)

Drafted by Angels of Pwnage at the age of 18, Francis Paris has spent several season honing his game in Canada II.1. A long time favourite of U21 management, Paris will brings some much needed versatility to the team.....as well as a long education is the art of pwnage.

Glenn Richards (13887630)

Half man, half basketball playing cyborg, Glenn Richards is probably the best 20 year old Canadian center of all time. Not only is Richards ready to play for the U21 at such a young age, but he is arguably the best big man on the team. While his superstar potential is a bit unfortunate (considering the pace of his development so far), Richards is still looking at a very succesful two season run with the U21. What makes all of this even more amazing is that Richards was never drafted, although he did join montreal domatorz very early in his age 18 season. He was immediately sent to Hungary for the lofty sum of $3.5 million. Having made such a large investment in Richards, his new owner, Mennydörgő Vattacukrok, has been well motivated in his attempts to turn Richards into a truly dominant force.

John Satchwell (12714950)

Having never been viewed by scouts as a naturally gifted athlete, Satchwell has been determined to go as far as hard work could take him. As an undrafted player, Satchwell was an original member of Juvenile Deliquency, and was immediately sold to Droids (after bouncing briefly through Grant Raptor). His new owner, Eminence Front, always believed in Satchwell, and worked hard to help him develop. While his star potential will cause issues at some point, he does still have some room to grow, and will be looked on to provide a calming influence at PG for the U21.

Max Torres (11816530)

A prominent member of the National player saving efforts in season 11, Max Torres was fortunate to find himself land in a great situation. Having been purchased by MN Ciphers for $1.2 million, Torres went on to receive some outstanding training, and is ready to take on a major role for Canada in season 14.

Philip Yates (11815964)

A highly skilled player right out of the draft, SFU kept him for a few weeks, before deciding to sell him for big money. Yates eventually went for $2.2 million, and became a proud new member of the Snóblisok Silver Hornets. His new Hungarian team was determined to build Yates into a star, and he will be bringing a level of skill (in certain areas) that the U21 has not had in recent seasons. Along with Max Torres, Yates will be relied on heavily as one of the main impact players out on the perimeter.

There you go....the opening 10 man roster for the season 14 U21 team.

Here are some additional notes:
- every player to make the team started out as an 18 year old
- Hightower, Satchwell, and Richards were all undrafted. They all arrived early in their age 18 seasons, however.
- Looking at current club affiliations, 4 players are playing in Canada, 2 in the United States, 2 in Hungary, 1 in Sweden, and 1 in Spain.
- Positionally, we have 2 PGs, 3 SGs, 1 SF, 2 PFs, and 2 Cs, which is more balanced on paper than we usually see at the U21 level.

More information will be available in the BB Canada off-site forum (available to Canadian managers who sign up): http://bbcanada.forumotion.com. The operator of the offsite forum is GM-Rip (24916), and be sure to send him a confirmation BB-Mail if you are signing up to the forum.

That's all for now...time for another round of the Americas Championships. The action starts this Monday.

Awesome, thanks Mogul. I'm most excited about Richards. Will he reach his cap before the end of his age 21 season? If he doesn't he would be an absolutely dominant force at the U21 level next season.

Yeah, Richards is on pace to cap before the end of his age 21 season, but a superstar cap is still pretty good for a C/PF at the U21 level. It should allow him to be better than any other bigs we've had for quite a long stetch, comparing him to other players at the same time in their development.
