So why does this exactly occur

Stamina, team tactics, strength of opposition to name a few factors.

"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."

I have been running the MVP awards of my league for a couple of seasons and so have looked closely at the ratings of players from many teams a great deal and big dumb centers like the one you described always do well. We had a guy who was top 10 mvp in our league based on ratings who had 5 x atrocious. AS far as I can see the game ratings are determined a great deal by defence, then rebounds, then everything else.

if you rotate players in defense, in makes just a small bit difference that it at least my experience. So a center you described, playing Guard and defeniding in Backcourt, would maybe make a half till one Rating point more then when he play and defend on guard.

So i am not so sure about the influence on D, because that wasn't an bug which i thought first. And if the multiplier arguments comes, even on SF where C usually get ok Rating(mostly IS?) it don't matters more.
