The current draft system is OK. But it is very unfair that some divisions get 3-4 very hot prospects and others only 2,5k useless youngsters.
Depending on your division, you could spend 40k/week for the entire season, have the 1st choice and get only crap.
I think that it would be nice if every division had much more than the current 48 draftees. Let's say that every division would have 96 draftees, and always at least one very hot prospect among them. That could motivate teams to invest more in the draft, knowing that there is surely a treasure hidden among the draftees. Under the current system, in the major divisons if you know that your team will make the playoffs it's waste of $ to invest in the draft. If you raise the number of draftees, the order of choice would remain important, but not crucial as they are now. So it could be a nice choice to invest in the draft even if you know you won't have the first choices.

i know lots of people that spent nothing on the draft and are very happy

i have had bad drafts every season but still hope

i also know people that has 1st or 2nd pick and spent a fortune - one got a player he sold for 1 million, the other a worthless dud he sacked - that is the random nature of the draft as it stands

But the draft to a certain extent should have a bit of randomness...

Let's say that every division would have 96 draftees, and always at least one very hot prospect among them.

That would be the worst thing that could happen. I estimate that ~90% of the current draftees are "junk data" anyway, as they get dumped right after the draft or end up with the majority of the teams in this game - that are bots.

If you want better draftees, in my opinion we should cut the third round and improve the general quality (esp. player builds) of the rookies availiable. That would mean, no more 7 footer PGs, no 0-10% FT-shooting guys and so on...

I love 7 ft tall “point-guards”, you don't have to train them out of position.

So in total in our draft there were five players who aren't garbage. Perhaps some may argue for two more.

Keogh, Kerehi pick 1 would be fine with one more potential.
In the first round the one really good prospect at pick 8 was Munyarryun, Teddy.
Then my guy Cook, Lino was the only other decent player taken in the first round and let me tell you, he is 6'3" with atrocious JS! I sold him for $100,000.
Pick 17 Belmore made up for their first pick by getting an 18 year old superstar but $3,232 is a low base. I have seen lots of guys like this with a TPE of like $4,000-$40,000.
Then in the third round we finally hit some potential, a pity they were on low skill 19 year olds. All also likely to be useless.
Funny the 5th last player taken was actually possibly one of the best while most people wont get excited by a $2915 perennial allstar in this draft he rocks. Sadly he was sold for $2,000 and then sacked.

So overall my rating for our league draft: pitiful!

I don't know what anyone else spent on the draft but I spent $280,000, got one of the top 3 guys in the entire draft and made a $180,000 loss.

You can't really expect to make money out of the draft, because every league has the same chances. You can only hope to get lucky with a NT prospect if you want to tank.. But the draft is not meant to make money. Don't invest in it unless you want to keep the player.

Just spent 30 mins on a huge detailed statistical analysis of the draft only to get "oops" you go back and get nothing. So pathetic.

I guess you win this discussion, I am not going to go through all of that again but I will share my conclusion...

In my league draft there were 0 x ATG, 0 x HoF, 1 x 19 year old $2,500 salary MVP, 2 superstars neither trainable, so the best potential guy was one p-all-star with less than $4,000 salary. There were in total 2 guys with > $5,000 salary, neither great. No-one won. The only winning strategy if you had first pick or last pick was to spend $0 on the draft.

I hear what you're saying, but my only conclusion is your league had a bad draft. It happens. You can chose to spend $ 0 next year, but who's to say there won't be a Blake Griffin in that one?
Some drafts are good, some aren't, just like in real life. You pay to find out.
