I think that there are way too many free agents on the market. An effect from this is that the value of training players are basically non-existing. Not saying that training strategy should be superior but it should at least not be heavily punished as it is in my opinion at the moment.

I have made my own calculations for this and basically the cost of 4-5 seasons training of an 18 year old player is so high in terms of selling fee that it is cheaper to buy a 25 year old well trained player to be used for many seasons instead.

That's where the U21/NT comes in, it makes training relevant, people want to help the U21/NT. Also something else that makes training relevant is the fact that many/most managers want to train up a young player because it is one of the amazing aspects of the game, Developing an 18 yr old scrub to a player of use. I don't think free agents will stop that.
