A new season, so a new tournament.

Results in the consolation tournament are always influenced by who you have to face. It's a random lotery, so some times are very lucky where as others aren't that fortunate.

We're starting of with an away game against Indonesia, which will be a though opponent, followed up by a home game against Eesti, one of the strongest teams in the consolation tournament.

The remaining 6 opponents will be known once the repechages poules for the World Cup have ended, but to qualify for the next round, we need to be in the top 32 teams, and the higher you end, the longer you will have Home Court Advantage in the KO stages of the tournament.

To make the top 32, you'll need atleast 6 wins to be sure. Alot will depend on the GS of the players in these first 2 match ups. Let's hope for the best. We avoided drawing out nations as Swiss, portugal, Finland or Turkey, so it could have been worse... Yet, it isn't an easy start.

first game will be against Indonesia. NT selection should occur somewhere at the end of this week. And as you all know, their will only be 15 players selected onto the NT, keeping at least 3 spots available for players to be added once the rest of the schedule is known.

Let's try and have another good NT season, but for that, i'll be needing your help in keeping the minutes low on your NT players!

We narrowly managed to avoid starting the consolation tournament with a loss by winning the game away against Indonesia. It was Sökmen Efsa who made a buzzerbeater in a game where the belgian lions where up for nearly the entire game, but some late 4th Q heroisme had brought the home team back into the game. Star player was without any dought Mees Freire who won this game with his hot hand from downtown ( 4 of 7 from distance, where as 3 point shooting is by far not his best skill, but since the opposing SF's had no OD what so ever, he was able to get off some shots anyhow)

We were able to steal a game on the road against a good team. Next week will be an even thougher opponent, but atleast we will have avoided the worst possible scenario for the consolation tourney ( which would have been a 0-2 start)

Thanks to JoeMaverick, Angi and NicoNam for keeping me company in the ingame chat during the game.

today, we outplayed Eesti. Our inside players all were in top shape, We stuck with them, but suddenly during the 3rd Q, we found our grove, stepped it up a notch, and Eesti couldn't follow anymore. After that, the Belgian Lions were happy enough keep controle of the game to get their second consectutive win in this consolation tournament.

The last time that Belgium took a 2-0 lead in the consolation tournament, was in season 8. The NT staff now await the draw for the next 6 opponents, hoping that they will be easier than the 2 we played again up till now.

Lets keep winning some games here, and try to continue on the good run that we had last season.

hm, it's not THAT hard to learn the text. :þ

PS: from now on, the first 2 minutes of Channel Zero song "Black Fuel" will be played at the start of each home game in the Magic Tomb. It's much more powerfull and intimidating.

sometimes i wonder how this consolation draw is done...

for the past 3 consolation tournaments, we always ended up playing Venezuela. Futhermore, for the past 2 consolation tournaments, we've always ended up drawing them in an away game. We managed to get a narrow win in season 10, but in season 12 and 14, both games against them were lost.

preview for the 6 remaining games:

Brasil @ Belgium: we're playing home, but they only have 10 men on their roster ( of which one is injured) so they are likely to add some more players to their roster. I'm expecting 2 extra guards, one SF type of player and 2 (maybe even 3) big men to be added to their roster. It's a surprize not to see Brazil in the World Cup, since they have got a very strong team. Brasil could be one of the teams to win the consolation tournament. A win against Brasil is highly unlikely.

Belgium @ South Africa: Altho they would need to win all their games to make it to the final 32, they have 2 hard games up ahead of them: Away against Slovenko and home against Germany. Remains to be seen what they can do, but they have gone 3x TIE in the repechage pool games, and thus, have a better enthousiasme than any of the teams that started of in the consolation tourney. Could be a thougher game than expected.

Ireland @ Belgium: Looks like Irish players aren't been trained well, or maybe to few decent players to train, but we should win this game. Our NT has better players, we are playing home, so if the GS is decent, then this should be a win for us.

Belgium @ Venezuela: Both teams have met eachother 3 times in the past 3 consolation tournament. Each time, the home team mananged to win the game. Venezuela has team that is more or less on the same lvl as our NT, but they have a much thougher schedule, playing a few away games against teams with more or less the same strength as them, so remains to be seen how the coach will use his enthousiasme, but the possibility of getting a win their is very slim.

India @ Belgium: I haven't paid much attention to them, but after a glace at their roster and their players, i'd be tempted to say that they have some average big men, but have a serious lack in the guard compartment. This should be a victory for us (unless if we end up having a very bad GS for this game, but that goes for any of the games)

Belgium @ England: It's been a while since we faced England in a competitive game on the NT lvl. This seasons opener was against them. We played a scrimmage game against them earlier this season, but everyone knows that scrimmages don't mean alot, especially not on the NT lvl. England has to play away against Malasia and Brazil, and already have lost one game. It's is likely that England will have a 4-3 record when facing us, and theirfor, they will need to win against Belgian NT if they are to quallify for the knock out stage ( and they'll need a good point difference too). With a bitt of luck, the Belgian NT will have secured their spot in ammongst the final 32 by then. This means that out of the 5 games prior to this one, we'll need to win 4 of them. We'll have to hope for a win against either Brasil or Venezuela. If we manage to get one win their, then we shouldn't worry about the result, and can save up some enthousiasme for the KO stage. However, if we end up losing 2 or more games, then we'll have to go all out in our last game, which would probably mean an early exit in the KO stage (in the event that our point difference is good enough to make it)

To futher explain how things work in the consolation tournament:
normally, a team needs to have 6 wins out of 8 games, if they want to make the final 32. After that, you play a seeded tournament, where the best team has Home Court Advantage. First team will play against the 32 ranked team, 2 against the 31st ranked team, etc...

Even if you manage to end up being the first, you still could play against big nations like France, Germany, Turkey, Switserland, Brasil ( tho unlikely that one, but you never know in BB), Portugal just to name a few. Even tho we'd be playing on our home court, that still would most probably mean we'd be playing a match that we can't win, unless using a CT, thus losing all our enthousiasme and face a most certain defeat in the round right after it.

What can be won in the consolation tournament?
Their aren't any cups to win. However, the NT that has the best preformance from each continent, is awarded with Home Court Advantage for the season 17 regional quallifying championships, as well with the regional championship itself ( so the team with the best preformance from europe will host the european quallifying round and european round itself, the best african preformance will host African quallifier and african championship, etc...)

It's highly unlikely that we'll end up having the best european preformance in this competition, considering that european top teams such as Portugal, France, Germany, Swiss, Turkey or the Netherlands ( just to name a few) will be competing for the top spot too. However, what we can do is try to improve our NT ranking as much as possible, which, normally, should translate in a nice draw for the next european quallifier ( depends on who we draw ofcourse. NT teams who have had a bad season, lose considerable ammount of spots on the NT ranking list, so sometimes, you face stronger teams that you'd expect to see at a certain place on the NT ranking list). But before we start talking about season 16, let's first try to improve Belgians NT ranking as much as possible, and to have a good run in this consolation tournament.

Belgium hasn't been very succesfull in the consolation tournament up untill now. Our best preformances come from season 4 and season 8, where Belgium was knocked out in the first round of the KO stage. In all the other seasons, The belgian Nt wasn't able to get into the final 32.

As many know (and i've experienced it first hand with my past 3 seasons as NT coach) results can change very soon. Anything is possible in BB. Theirfor, the first goal will be to quallify for the KO stage of the consolation tournament. Once and if ( hopefully we will) we are quallified we'll see how we plan from their on.

their, my season 16 preview for the first round of the NT consolation tournament.
