Quick question for all the experienced managers out there.

I've been looking to buy an advanced level trainer since the start of this season, but I'm cheap and don't want to pay a lot in a bidding war. I also would like to get a guy with a reasonable salary, nothing too outrageous. Obviously, they are in high demand.

I'm wondering if the prices of these trainers will decline further into the season. I reason that once a most managers get their advanced level trainer for the season, there won't be so much demand, and I can get a cheap one. I'm ok waiting a few weeks with my competent level guy until that point. But, if I'm wrong and there will still be lots of bidding even later, maybe I should be more aggressive in trying to get one now.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Well the 13-14k ones can get a bidding war but once u get to 17-18k competition usually drops off and u should be able to get one with a low sign on fee.

That's true, and if you work out the arithmetic on how fast the salaries rise, if you can get a 13K guy for a signing bonus anywhere lower than ~60K, you'll do better than starting with a 17K guy.

But if the signing bonus for 13K salary guys goes lower after a few weeks into the season based on demand side changes, then you could save even more by waiting. Anyone have a feel for whether this happens?

I got lucky and avoided a bidding war on an advanced trainer last year. I only paid $2000 for a trainer that started around $13300/week.

I guess it's all in the timing. If I remember correctly, there were a few trainers in the $11-$13000 range selling around the same time so his price tag didn't look great by comparison.
