im training a defensive sf (think of ron artest). At the end of the season if i sell him will he be more expensive being defense based? he now has 9 OD and 8 ID. So, by the end of the season he would probably get 3+ pops on defense skills.

yes, but i meant that he will cost more as a defensive young sf than an sf with high JS?

IMO the defensive SF means that he will not let a SF from other team to score. In this case his OD and ID should be about 13 if we are talking about final figures. But take into account the age of your player. Good difense is realy good, but if he can also be usefull in atack it will greatly increase the price.
For example, you can train his Passing to a decent level and Driving - so he can be useful to inside tactics... Also if he is young, that makes the difference - you can sell him just with training in OD.

To make it easy just understand yourself, who is our potencial buyer - what he will use your guy for, and that's will be your answer...

It's fully understandable, but there are two possible ways how to decrease the salary and increase efficiency:
1) It is possible to use 2 SFs (One more for OD, one more orintated for ID) - it will help to spot nearly every team, but have to manage the GS well
2) Decrease the requirements of defensive skills - for example, my SF (With OD 11 and ID 9 but multiskilled in the start of season gets less than 9k) - I'm planning to train him up to OD 13 and ID 10 level - so it will not be big boost in salary, but anyhow he is not able to stop a PF, playing on this position with Inside orientated atack of the oponent) - it's desision of team maneger

I guess what you want to hear is this:
Training D gives one more sound per pound, so to speak. Maybe his value would be the same as if you trained O, but his salary will be lower. and this will make him more valuable.
A buyer will think: Oh, good player and with such low salary!
What is more important though is there are much fewer balanced players, so they tend to cost more.
p.s. Don't forget that IS doesn't increase SF's salary.
