I wonder what is the best offensive tactic for a team with guards that are especially good in driving to the basket but weak from downtown (maybe something like Derrick Rose style - yeah I know he can shoot from 3 but it is by far not his major strength)?

let's assume that the other guard's skills (like handling, passing and JS) are also high. I want to know in which of the current tactics available the guards will try most of the time to drive inside and then will try to lay up or release a pass to a team-mate.

and a more specific Q: what do you think happens in Low post and Look inside? are the guards mostly looking for a pass into the paint and when fails they shoot from distance, or is it that the whole team is generally focusing on trying to get into the paint, either by passing to the big men or by driving in.

Thanks

Ok, thanks.

But in is there a tactic that favors penetrating guards over pure shooters?

look inside is maybe the best choiche for it, but the C and PF are still the most important offensiv players there and effect in my experience also the shooting percentage of the guards a lot.

thanks to all whom had answered.

I have kind of a follow up question: a player, a guard or a SF that is really good in one kind of offense (a pure shooter, good driving...) will he tend to make the attacks he is better at? to rule out tactics affect let say in base offense.

Or even more - does the opponent's defense affect the player's decision to throw from distance or try get to the paint more?

thanks again

yes that will happen, the "player" calculate to make the best possible decision during an attack and looking for a good shot depending on time left and the average quality of shot you could get. The higher the experience the better this decision process works for the player.
I don't know if a good inside shooter and bad shooter, will get more looks inside and less outside but at least he would take less of the chanches outside and more of them inside.
