When looking at draft prospects does box score give a good indication of the prospects skills?

Star rating is the best way to determine skills. If you player has more balls in star rating he will have better skills because he will have higher salary. Here is the how much the draftees salary will be depending on his number of balls.
Star rating:
5 balls = $3,700 and higher
4 balls = $2,800 - $3,700
3 balls = $2,300 - $2,800
2 balls = $1,900 - $2,300
1 ball = $1,900 and lower

Star rating has value but I think most would agree that potential is far more important than their star rating. There are very few players out there that will have 5 ball potential and that's where you get your MVP/hall of fame types that you need at the highest level. Even if they have low starting skills, guys with high potential will sell for a ton of money as 18 year olds.

On top of that, 18 year olds are significantly more valuable prospects than 19 year olds whether you choose to train them or sell them. That's why so many people pay for the scouting combine.

As for the box score, I'm not sure if anyone is convinced that it has much meaning. What you want 18 year olds with high start rating and high potential.

The box score has effect on the player, but a better guide is the player's star rating/grade rating. However the box score can show a red flag; a player with 5 PF probably is very aggressive. Also, in stats like RB, FT, AST, and STL it can tell how good they play in the corresponding skill. Star rating is more important, but the box score can show a potential problem with having a player.
