Does anyone have any statistical evidence on what is the difference?

Can a drive be close to the basket and not depend on IS?

You won't find any statistical evidence because it all depends on the defence he is going up against as well.

You can certainly have a player drive to the basket but a low IS means he won't be hitting many of them.

driving = ability to create the shot

is = ability to make the shot.

That's pretty much the answer I was looking for.

If, in fact, it is the correct answer...

Well.. the game manual is pretty ambiguous...

A better IS will make more two point baskets?

It seems like IS is helping for dunks of any kind and post moves... But not that much for driving lay-ups.
But again, since guards are quite all low on ID, it's difficult to be sure.

I would imagine they both come in to play depending on what the other players defense is. From what I have seen if the player has low inside defense then the driving seems to be enough to make the basket. If the players inside defense is good, then it falls to the ability to make the shot.
I had a PG last year, Average JS Strong Range, Wonderous Driving & Atrocious Inside shot. He made 48% of his shots play Look Inside.

Ouch.. How rude.

"and even i that dont know that much about basket can..."

Instead of being negative, you could help with these such obvious answers. I don't mean to sound vain, but I'm very well educated and this isn't clear to me. Perhaps it is my education that enables me to see all the different alternatives (i.e. ambiguity).
