Great 8
Toronto Terror
Possessing only a pair of loses to Big 8 teams, this team has been dominating their own conference all season long. Like a well oiled machine, center Kostas Pasamichalis (15.7ppg, 12.1rpg, 5.6apg), guard Özgür Adisanli (15.7ppg, 6.5apg) and forward Michalis Douros (12.5ppg, 12.8rpg) have led this very dynamic team that likes to push the tempo and have won their last 9 league games. They definitely seemed to be in top form heading into the post season but a late season injury to Morris Cuschieri (17.0ppg) could derail that momentum. After a 17-5 season a year ago and a 110-91 conference final loss they seemed bound and determined to win this league. Can the taste of coming up short in last season playoffs be enough to push them past the injury of their top scorer or will that loss be enough to keep them from post season success yet again?
Mamaroneck Tigers
Don’t let the 17-5 record fool you, this team is dangerous. Being held below 100 points only 3 times this season, they will present all kinds of defensive nightmares to opposing teams. This is another team that tasted defeat last season in the V.96 playoffs, falling 109-107 to their bitter rivals, the Toronto Terror after going 15-7. Led by the scoring machines Rafa Jiménez Quirós (21.7ppg, 5.5rpg, 3.4apg, 2.9spg), Eugenio Suárez (16.5ppg, 4.2apg, 2.2spg) along with their big man Giancarlo Minola (14.0ppg, 11.8rpg) they are looking to improve their 1-3 mark against their dreaded rivals from Toronto which included three consecutive defeats including a pair of loses this season (@MAM 121-111, @TOR 133-147). Will they be able to get pass their nemesis and get their hands on the trophy or will they not be able to get enough stops to pull out enough victories this post season?
Cubanisimos
This 17-5 team who finish 3rd due to point differential will be playing in the most exciting first round game against Mamaroneck Tigers who they split the season series to (@Mam 98-97, @CUB 88-111). Led by Mauricio Vaca (15.8ppg, 6.2rpg), Miodrag Kikanovic (11.1ppg), Ivan Machado (10.4ppg, 9.1rpg) and Lucius Guillory (10.3, 9.6rpg). This is a team they plays well when the lights are on, going 4 rounds into the US Cup before running into a buzz saw from DIII, Crank Dat Souljah Boy just out dance them that Thursday night. Along with that they are undefeated on TV, all double digit victories as well as a road victory in Mamaroneck already, their cult like following is unflappable about their chances in the playoffs. Will they be able to bring their big game prowess or will they fall short?
Milwaukee Phenoms
This 8-14 team has played better than their record shows. Winning two of their last three and even running with Mamaroneck and giving them a tough final game of the season in an eventual 99-109 loss. They will be a team that could play spoiler if they can figure out how to bet the Terror. In their first game under new management they lost at home 100-77 so many would not expect a better showing on the road in the playoffs but mention this to the ever confident Phenoms. Led by 18 year old scoring phenom, Bill Castillo (18ppg, 4.3rpg, 3.4apg) and the interior efforts of Ezra Schumacher (10.2ppg, 7.4rpg, 3.8 apg) and Chris Anderson (10.0ppg, 9.2rpg, 5.0apg), can they do what no other Great 8 team has done and give Toronto Terror a conference loss finally or will they end up one and done, watching the rest of the playoffs from their phenomenal penthouses in Milwaukee?
