Weekly salary: $ 78 243
DMI: 977000
Age: 22
Height: 6'11" / 211 cm
Potential: perennial allstar

Jump Shot: inept Jump Range: average
Outside Def.: awful Handling: awful
Driving: pitiful Passing: respectable
Inside Shot: wondrous Inside Def.: wondrous
Rebounding: wondrous Shot Blocking: strong
Stamina: mediocre ↓ Free Throw: awful

He hasnt popped in about 4 or 5 weeks and i have basically trained ID all the time. I checked the cap room table and its about the same. 80-100k for a perennial allstar.
Any thoughts?

Using Josef Ka's coefficients, I calculated him to have a cap number of 22.32, compared to the perennial allstar cap range of 22-24. It seems very likely he has capped.

I know what "cap room table" you are talking about; that's at least 4 seasons old. In last four seasons salaries have been decreasing, so you can't use that table for a reference anymore. Furthermore, salary is not a good indicator to see if a player has capped. Let's say your player had one level of ID less and thus would not be capped; in that case, you could train his Passing, Outside defense, Driving, Handling and Jump Range at least 3-4 levels higher then they are now without fear of capping. Now compare these 15-20 skill ups of secondary skills to one skill-up in Inside defense. What would you rather have? I would rather, for sure, have those 15-20 skill-ups.

Of course, this means you should play him for two seasons on PG and SG spot, but in the end, it would proably be worth it.

I think you underestimate the opportunity cost of training those 15-20 skill ups. First you would need to change your roster so that you would be training PGs insteadof Cs. Next your $75,000 player, instead of winning you games playing as a C is now losing you games playing as a PG. Finally at his age and height I think those pop-ups could take three seasons. In the same time instead of training him for three seasons you could get a very short 18 year old and get 30-40 pops over the same time.

But he can still train JS or one on one for forwards, that will only require him to play at PF

using the new formula he is at potential 7.16 so he is capped

this doesn't allow for sublevels so it isn't 100% but u can be fairly confident

but the good news is u can keep training, it isn't a hard cap, i know a guy whose favourite player (an ex-aussie u21 center) capped & he kept on training him & got 1-2 pops per season

Thanks guys, from now on ill probably work with my other trainees, give them 1 position training, get their skills up to about the same level as Yury and sell him, replace him and get 2 young high-potential trainees.

The thing is, when i drafted him 4 seasons ago, potential was a quite unimportant factor to me, i looked at the cap chart and i just thought that the salaries wont go that high. Turns out i was wrong :D
