Every one keeps telling me to train between 48-68 min a week, but at the same time tell me only to have 11-12 players....so running the number with that few of players and with me playing 3 games a week they will get more than the needed minutes i think its like 72 they will get. how does this work? cause if i have my starter and back up for all positions, then it leaves me 2 more players for just 2 more positions so now i have 3 positions without a reserve those guys will be getting more minutes. some help pls.
Try the math again:
Each game is 48 minutes, and 5 players are on the court for your team at a time, leading to 240 minutes / game. With 3 games per week, that's a total of 720 minutes available. A 12 man roster, if minutes were split perfectly, would have 60 minutes per player.
Making the minutes work out depends a lot on how your team is set up. You can either switch between two starters at a position with the other backing him up, which gets both guys close to 48 minutes in the two league games and you can have the one who doesn't as a backup in the scrimmage, or have a starter and a backup, in which case you may have more of a 72-24 split in league games and then play the backup as a starter in the scrimmage. Between that and the ability to have players in different positions, there are plenty of options to try to get good quality minutes for everyone.
