I think I read it somewhere before but is it true that I don't have to pay a player unless I play him in the week's league game etc.?

no, you dont pay salaries for your players only when you are out o the playoffs and dont play any competetive game besides scrimages that week.

I guess you mean that during the regular season if you don't play him on any games during a week you wouldn't have to pay any salary? If so, you're wrong.
