Hmm.. I would probably say buy decent players just enough to keep you in the 6th seed, do not relegate that wont be smart.. Train that PG that you have with an advanced trainer make sure you have atleast another 18 or 19 year old with him just so you can train and sell that guy for a little bit of profit once the season is done. When playoffs have started or the season is about to end look to buy yourself some really good players with the money you saved. During the playoffs is probably when you can find the cheapest players. Doing this will probably get you into the PO's next season good luck.

I was in your exact same situation at the end of last season. As others have said in this thread, get the minimum amount of talent you need to stay in your current league, not necessarily win a ton of games, but stay afloat either way. Getting demoted might tank your economy even more than it currently is. All that said unless you're planning to completely rebuild your team from scratch and just hire a few trainees.

i'vew gone througha rebuilding phase before in div III, now im in div 1.(in NZ) which is not saying alot

this is what i do...

Keep a roster of 12 people incase of injury
buy 1 awesome potential trainee and a semi awesome trainee and train them 1 position. (decent stamina and FT)
you dont want to spend weeks to increase their STAMINA and FT.
buy very old veteran with decent skill(those are cheaper) to surround him/babysit him for a few season, especially veteran point guard / center
use extra money to build your arena
buy level 4 PR manager for Income, TIE all the imposible game, CT your rival and TV contract game, you want to win those.

after a season
sell your semi awesome trainee (lower potential) and buy a new better trainee with his revenue.
buy a semi decent younger big man with good rebounding + defense
or Semi decent younger PG depend what your trainee is
keep building arena and make sure you have some savings.

3rd season, your trainee should make U-21 if you're lucky = more $$$
sell your semi decent and start upgrading them to bigger salary player. 1 position at a time.
once before allstar break(so you can train his stamina) and once before playoff to surprise your Opp.

4th season, is time to compete :) you should have 1 good 21 yrs old and 1 good 20 yrs old.
and 2 semi decent big / small.

In the ABBL draft last season where I has the first pick there were exactly NONE with five ball potential! Not even a single superstar. Random is correct, some drafts get half a dozen others none. Pathetic.
