Noob Schoolbus 17-6 (22-12 overall) vs. Greensboro Generals 17-6 (25-7 overall)
Where: Greensboro Coliseum (6,200) SOLD OUT
When Saturday May 5th 2012 8pm
The Vitals: It took a Noob “Slowroll” on the final night of the season to make the Generals DIV 39 Big 8 Champions (commemorative shirts available at many fine local retailers), to which the Generals quizzically thanked them for before making a hasty retreat. Both teams advanced in the quarters, but looked decidedly different doing so.
Greensboro hammered Hustlas 108-50 as Giancarlo Beek (8156327) & Eisen Lagniton (7432831) both had 25 to pace the Generals who put five players in double figures. Lagniton also went 5-8 from three point territory as the Generals left their visitors discombobulated from jump street.
Jack Nance scored 50 by himself as Noob put out an effort that was good enough to get past Russian Rays 97-90. Noob owner Freakosuave has pledged to put out in his own words (ok maybe not verbatim) “ a team you have not seen” Considering Greensboro has turned over their entire roster this season Coach Lambini can say the same about his troops. The only player who is still on the team from the opening day roster is last years number one pick Pete Tanner who is only still on the team because his surname is the same as the son of the owners first name making Tanner a well paid bellhop.
Last time they met: Greensboro went normal but also played all but four minutes of the game with a total of 6 players and they survived Jack Nance’s 40 as the Generals won in overtime 86-81. Salvatore Cucco (2941522) in particular had a tremendous evening with 24pts and 27rebs 16 of those on the offensive glass.
The first time around: The now disposed early season roster of the Generals controlled the ‘Bus 103-85 despite 51 from the prodigious Mr. Nance
The offsite line: Greensboro anywhere from -11.5 to -17. Might be a little high, but the Generals do have a lot more balance. Noob has a little better overall GS and Greensboro’s roster resembles the name of a 1980’s TV show. The Bus however is going to go only as far as Nance will take them. He was 37-82 from the field in the first two meetings but only 6-27 from downtown.
The Generals management feels the squad truly is peaking like they were hanging out with Owsley at a Dead show. Noob management is actually left wondering just where the hell everyone went as first round attendance numbers were extremely weak by Bus standards.
Final analysis: The Bus is set up to be a star vehicle, the Generals are an ensemble cast. Both teams play the perimeter well, Noob though has more firepower from the outside. The Generals owNed the inside the first two times around, a repeat will be in essence. The offensive glass could be the difference maker, Greensboro had a 49-17 aggregate advantage over both legs in the regular season Especially telling was how this affected the 2nd contest as the 27-7 advantage Coach Lambini’s charges held led to 31 more overall FG attempts as the Generals were able to overcome icy percentages to wind up on top.
