The first two league games of the season are now completed, so I was wondering what's up? Trophies/Season 21 draftees/bot leagues processing or just BB-Marin on vacation?

Despite the things we (users) can see (new leagues, draft, player's updates...), there are other things related with the DB and hide work related to the offseason. That's why the message is still there, and that's why from time to time the site is slower than usual. Offseason ends when the news are released, which I hope will be done in the following days

But if those processes can be done during the season, then shouldn't they be done at a slower rate throughout the entire season (site speed less affected), and just be called background processes, as they don't seem to have any relation to "offseason stuff" as we know it?

They do have close relation to offseason, just not directly. And no, they can't be slowed down.
