Fast forward to 46min 54seconds.

1:01 left, team hits a 3. down by 1. timeout for opponents.
56 left steal for me
49 steal for them
no foul?
44 seconds they shoot, I rebound, timeout.
32 left I shoot, miss, they rebound.
No foul?
16 seconds left they shoot. miss, offensive rebound
no foul?!
0 seconds left my team steals, but no time to shoot the ball.

in an 89-90 game... Those last 49 seconds.... the game engine is telling me. That the team trailing by 1. would not foul, and try and get the ball back... in ANY of those situations?
This seems highly unlikely. Yes there's no guarentee my team scores, or makes a shot, or doesn't turn it over. But to not foul, and not give themselves the chance? really?

5 guys on court:
2 with atrocious
1 with inept experience
1 with respectable
1 with prolific

I feel, that the experience of them... they should have fouled.

Being only one point behind it's not so strange that your players decide to defend with 1 minute or 32 seconds left. They know there is a chance of a missing shot and a last possesion.
The only problem was in the last 16 seconds. The engine is designed to have priorities in these cases. First: try to stel the ball, second: foul. You have "bad luck" and the play ended with a steal with the clock at 0. Without the steal, your players would have fouled.
Probably the code would have to include something like "If we can't steal the ball with enough time to try a play, just foul". Don't know if it's so easy from a developer point of view

only in the last sequence after the off reb, i find it weird not to foul. imho in such situation they foul here normally, but maybe my mind trick me here(or the decision to foul is at the beginn of the offense sequence and not when the clock got reseted after the off reb?).

But at least they normally don't milk the clock here.

Yeah. and I progressed it like that in the message to illustrate that was my take too
No foul? Like, ok time, defense... it worked.
No foul? time defense, worked.
but the third no foul?! Yeah, I'm like... uhh definitely should be fouling here guys.... really... 16 seconds left? the shot clock's turned off.... definitely time to foul.

So, I feel like. Especially in a 1 point game, that this is some kind of bug? Or My team, just finds the absolute dumbest ways to choke. I had some really bad beats last season too. and 1 earlier this season as well.

Looking at this further....

Why wouldn't my team call a timeout at the 56 second mark after they make the steal too?

It's a possible scenario. The players decide they need a steal but fail to get it on time. Maybe they were close to a steal (a player double teamed in a corner, etc...) and they thought a steal was a sure thing, yet it failed to happen. In the meantime the clock runs out and a foul was not made in time. Happens in real life, can happen here too.

I can think of 2 situations there.... that happened. that are not possible scenarios. Unless for the timeout, you have 0 timeouts left.

Yeah. But my 46K guy had no problem draining the 3 to bring us within 1.

Also, after the first defensive stand... or even the steal... Why not call a timeout? They had timeouts to call. You're down 1. You have less than a minute, and possession, with multiple timeouts left... why not use 1?

Real coaches don't end a close game like that with 2 timeouts left. Not realistic, not even fictious realistic!
