Story: So, a long time ago I spent eons manually searching the list of federations for any that actually had interesting posts in english. I joined 5, but it turned out that only one of these is actually active on a semi-regular basis.
Lame!Potential: Federations could be great because A) the supporter requirement naturally filters out a lot of meaningless posts,
they provide a place for PL forums, & C) they allow focused discussion that can't be sustained in other places (except maybe off-site forums).
Problem: Federations are hard to find because the list is flooded with meaningless federations that have 1-member, are in foreign language, or are inactive.
Solution: We could ease this frustration easily by adding three criteria to the sorting options for the list:
1) sort by number of members
2) sort by primary language
3) sort by date of last post
And we could solve the problem altogether if we could turn the sorting function into a filter as well. This way we could see the list of "English language federations" or "federations with posts in the last month/week," or "federations with more than 5 members."
BB Benefit: This simple change would encourage people to buy and renew supporter packages.
Bonus Idea: Give PL's their own forum.
I can't have been the first one to think of these things. So, please post your agreement or your additional ideas. And let's get BB-Charles, BB-Forrest, BB-Mark, BB-Edju, BB-Patrick, BB-Marin, and BB-Raymund to help us out!
