In order to train my rookies do they have to play a game first?

Yes, and if you want them to have 100% training time, they have to play 48 minutes, not 47 minutes and 59 seconds, not 47 minutes 59 seconds and 99 milliseconds, but at least 48 minutes :) . For the best training results, one-position train skills that can be one-position trained.

You're right, but they can also train Stamina and Free Throws without playing
