Heya there, quick question for the trainers among us:

What's a good build to aim for for a, say, 40-50k salary PF? Would proficient secondaries be enough?

"Enough" is a totally relative value. There are a number of trade offs involved and what is best for one team will not be best for another.

Proficient is very high for secondaries on a big man this price. There are only 2 pfs on the TL right now with 9 OD/PA and between 35k and 55k salary, and the cheaper of these costs 2.4 million. I think 7+ for JS/OD/PA is a good goal, but there are only 4 in this category. This may be too much work for a lot of people but it's worth the effort. Players built this have much better salary efficiency (extremely important). and they are worth a lot more on the TL because of this.

The reason most people do not do this is because secondaries train slow and you have a dead roster spot while you are doing it. Plus it can set your main skills back a while and the player will play worse than a low secondary build usually until they aren't being trained any more. When I did the only big man training I've ever done it was right after I started and secondaries were not worth it because I wanted the player to have an impact right away so that I could promote.

Whatever the case, training secondaries is always best done right away because the dead roster spot is costing you less. Or put another way, the fact that this player can't contribute when out of position isn't as important when the player sucks anyways.

Well, this is my first year training this dude and he started off as a guard and his outside skills are decent already, with OD and PA at 8 and the rest of it between 5-8 at well, though I haven't trained 1on1 yet to take care of those. His inside skills are between 5 and 7 as well, but I haven't started on those at all yet. The reason he's becoming a PF is because he's 2.08.

Think I should go for SF instead?

I would personally build an inside SF. It's because of his potential. His skills would be like this:
11 7
13 12
15 9
14 13
11 7
7 7

You can do +/- 1 some skills, maybe some more of OD or ID. You would just have to focus on OD and passing for about 1 season than go to inside skills and finish with 1on1 training with forwards.

I think he would be best as a PF, inside skills will train a lot faster. But if your goal is to sell him it might be better to make him into an inside oriented SF because people underrate OD.

I think I'd also rather train him as a PF and just let his JS pick up some pops through 1on1 instead of attempting dedicated outside scoring training for 2 positions on a 2.08 dude. That just sounds like more hassle than it's worth.

So basically, with a PF in mind, I should leave his outside secondaries at 8 and go straight to forwards-1on1 from this week, then just train his inside skills until he's done? I plan on keeping him, not selling.

Well, personally, the goal for the pf i am training, and who should cap at around 45k salary is:

15 8
9 12
12 8
14 12
12 7

He could dominate center pozition playing patient suits very well in motion and push the ball offences already (highest fg% already in my team, but his js is already 13:) )

Hell play along with future pf/center of my team too which skills should look like this:
12 8
6 12
14 16
16 14
14 8

THese 2 should be beasts in any offense

I like passing on your future pf/c, he would do well in princeton tactic.
