I recently took over a new franchise and I've already made some significant changes. I'm looking to ad at least two more veteran bench players, but overall I think that my team is good enough to contend for a championship next season. The thing that I need help with though is finding the right offense/defense to run with my team. Any insight that you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

That's a mighty big jump between saying you're ready to win a championship, but don't even know what tactics to use. It's not exactly giving a lot of credit to other teams in your league, and of course you don't know who will demote from IV or what players teams will buy next year.

Good luck to you, but it's not THAT easy to win even in the lowest division.

If you remember me, then I don't care if everyone else forgets.

Where to start...

Ok, I am rather new, but having played many games in my life I have to encourage those who really want to learn the game to ask questions, ask more questions, get opinions and potentially get a mentor (there are threads for mentoring). It will save you heartache and confusion. While this game is basketball there are components that do not necessarily follow the logic of regular basketball unless you understand the nuances attached.

Div V things I have learned.

1. ARENA -- build it and they will come! Build up your Arena over time. Get to a 6K to 7K size arena by next season.
2. Transfer List -- DO NOT BUY any more players until you decide who and what you are training.
3. GET A PLAN -- Put together a blueprint for your season by getting trainees (18 and 19 year olds) and decide what you want to train (is it 1 position training, 2 position training...are you training Guards, Bigs, Wingmen?!?) If you dont know the answers to these questions...you need to dig in and read and ask more questions.
4. DRAFT -- buy the combine(costs 10 scouting points and gives age and height of ALL players in draft), then scout your prospects, based on your parameters (ie what you are training). Set your draft list and interview top potential draftees. Remember the
GREY balls mean NOTHING!!
5. CUT DOWN YOUR ROSTER -- cut down your roster to a manageable and less expensive weekly amount.
6. CONSIDER LVL 4 trainer --- lots of opinions on this, so ask around and see what works. It will add cost so be aware. Though it can speed training up (a bit) over the course of a year.

To succeed in Div V you need to be organized, have a plan, be diligent, patient and use your $$$ wisely. Also you must plan minutes for players to increase GAME SHAPE!! (An all important factor which will have your players playing to their potential instead of scratching your head when your STRONG Jump Shooter goes 3 for 10 from downtown ... game shape of AWFUL is not going to have a player playing good.)

From what I can gather, you appear to be buying Guards, which is fine, but I think it may have been premature for the 23 year old SG (my opinion only), however you may have a plan and at 23 he can totally work given he has the right attributes.

I say all this because thus far I have learned by reading, listening and digesting what the vets have told me. Plus I have a good mentor and a few friends I have made via my Federation (Audacity of HooP!)

Good luck and have fun, but be patient because this is not a fix it quick game. It takes time thought, luck and patience.
Hope this helps a little.

Full disclosure: I have won NOTHING yet, in fact I finished 7th in my Division and am in a Relegation Series. However I have a plan, am organized and have purchased pieces and am training homebrew trainees intended to better my team AND increase merchandising revenue...currently I am poor, but my Arena is at least shaping up

Thanks for all your help! I've played this game before and I actually won a title in D5, but that was a while ago so I'm a little rusty. Good luck to everybody on the rest of this season and the rest of next year!

I would definitely say dont spend any more big bucks on FA's until the arena gets going. of all the advice given, thats probably the biggest issue i see with what you've done so far, should not be spending almost your entire bank roll on big players, you can compete in D.V with relatively minimal salary (i had nobody over 10k salary, just a handful of 7-9k salaries.

if your guards are it, i'd say Motion if they have average range, and RnG if they have good range.
