I've been wanting some other opinions on this for awhile but just haven't had time to post a poll but here it is: Dwight Howard is once again the All-star starter at the Center position in 2013, but does he deserve it? Personally I think he should have been a backup or even not got voted in at all... This is why:

He is only ranked 11th among all centers right now in effectiveness. (8 of the centers ranked above him are not in the All-star game.

His points per game are down by almost 4 PPG as well as his rebounds which are down by 2.5 RPG.

He has caused many problems for the Lakers this year and just simply has done more hurt than help for them in my opinion but apparently the voters do not care.

He is part of a losing team and is one of the biggest reasons why.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Poll:  What is your take on Howard being an All-star game starter?

He deserves it, so I have no problem with it.
He shouldn't start but deserves a backup role.
He should not have made it into the game at all.

I agree with you on this there is no way he should even be on the allstar roster he has also been hurt twice so far this season if he is having an all star season then Al Jefferson is having an MVP season. They need to get away from the fans voting in the starters. Maybe have them vote in the 11th and 12th players on each side or something like that.

I dont think Dwight really bares any of the blame for how miserable the Lakers have been this year. You have to remember that hes not the only weapon anymore, like he was with the Magic last year.

So his scoring is down 4 points, yeah but his FG% is actually slightly up, as are his blocked shots. His rebounds are bound to fall when you add another 7 footer to the mix.

Having said that, I do think that there are more deserving centers for the all-star game. But its really unfair to say that Dwight is responsible for how the Lakers are playing. Particularly when Pau Gasol is putting up career low numbers in points and FG%, and plays about as much defense as a microwaved marshmallow.

I agree Howard is not the reason why the Lakers are struggling all i was saying was that i do not think he is having an all star season and you are also right with Gasol. I think Gasol needs to go to a different team he does not seem happy anymore but he is also on the down side of his career.

Not really because then the Lakers don't have a center... And I doubt BKN even want Howard since they are doing pretty well as is. Plus Min doesn't need a center because they already have pekovic and you can't find a player like Kevin love in a lot of drafts so I ont see them trading him. This trade has a lot of problems with it and it would never happen.

They still wouldn't trade him for a Center when he's a PF though. And since there is no other PF in the game right now that is better than him, they wont trade him unless they get a better deal. If Lakers could give Min Pau Gasol, supply them with a key player from another team (At the SG/SF position), and then a first round pick or two then they might make the trade but i still doubt it.
