A team with a trainer having the "Career Extension" specialty has a 34 year old player. That player had 6 separate skill drops in the last 8 weeks.

I find that remarkable. Even my older players haven't dropped nearly that fast, without career extension. (10 players over 40 years old, 2 are 50 years old).

Does "Career Extension" make any difference, or is it a sham?

It does make a difference. You probably had a lot of bad luck, since you are the only person who I have heard with such an experience. Others who have used Career Extension can probably tell you more.

The game manual is pretty ambiguous about how "Career Extension" works though. All it says is that "Older players will not experience skill drops as frequently." 6 out of 8 weeks is alarming for a 50 year old. let alone a 34 year old.

There's specialties like "massage" & "fitness" that consistently do something every week. And on the opposite side, there's "taping injuries" which has zero consistent effect. Only having a *chance* of working under very narrow conditions.

So I'm wondering where "career extension" falls..... Is it just a specialty with a small chance of working like "taping injuries"? Otherwise it does absolutely nothing? Or does it actually work reliably like the other 2 specialties i mentioned above? (like by reducing the severity of each drop... say instead of dropping .5 levels, you only drop .3 levels?)

But look at the game manual:
Career Extension: Older players will not experience skill drops as frequently.

Fitness: The magnitude of the Stamina drops experienced by your players is decreased.

So the Fitness specialty is always working, even while stamina drops. But this makes it seem like Career Extension is something that either works or doesn't (like taping injuries). It also says nothing about the severity of drops.

Thanks for the reply. But It's not uncommon to have 33 year olds with zero skill drops, without extension. The 35 year old PF seems impressive. But I checked just now, and...

I've got a 36 year old with only 3 skill drops in 3 1/2 seasons! Without career extension!

So again I don't see the point of career extension. It seems like it's random as to whether or not it works, and that the majority of weeks it does absolutely nothing?

How high are his skills?
I ask, because I know few 45-50 yo players, who hadn't even single drop during few seasons in row,
(It's nothing spectacular, because they have TSP=10...)
However it leads us to conclusion: lower skills - lower probability of drop and/or lower magnitude of drop if it occurs (I bet that second sentence is key). For example magnitude of drop = 5-15% of skill.
So it's possible that player with all skills below 3-5 has very little or even 0 visible drops during season.
In other hand, therefore is harder to keep without drop 33yo player, who has few skills above 15.

I agree. Skill drops to age must be similar to enthusiasm drops: higher you are, faster you fall.
Skill 18>17 faster than 17>16 faster than 16>15 etc

If you remember me, then I don't care if everyone else forgets.
